Have you ever heard that dates contain many benefits for pregnant women? Many Muslims believe that there are some benefits of dates for pregnant women according to Islam similar to some best deeds in the eyes of Allah.

It’s mentioned in the Quran that dates are one of the fruits that help Maryam to ease the pain during her pregnancy with the prophet Isa as she followed Allah’s command. Besides, dates contain higher potassium, folate, and low glycemic index, that good for pregnant women.

That is why the Sunnah for eating dates becomes one of the benefits of dates for pregnant women according to Islam as the women doing a good deed by applying Sunnah. They might get the same values of reciting Shalawat in Ramadhan.

1. Reduce pain

Dates contain higher magnesium that would help to reduce pain and ease muscle cramps during pregnancy. That becomes one of the benefits of dates for pregnant women according to Islam that similar to the benefit of getting morning habits in an Islamic way.

Such as mentioned in the Quran, surah Maryam verse 23-24 explains the way dates could save Maryam to reduce her pain during pregnancy. According to Islam, dates could reduce the pain when the women deliver the baby.

فَاَجَاۤءَهَا الْمَخَاضُ اِلٰى جِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِۚ قَالَتْ يٰلَيْتَنِيْ مِتُّ قَبْلَ هٰذَا وَكُنْتُ نَسْيًا مَّنْسِيًّا

فَنَادٰىهَا مِنْ تَحْتِهَآ اَلَّا تَحْزَنِيْ قَدْ جَعَلَ رَبُّكِ تَحْتَكِ سَرِيًّا

“The pain will give birth to force (leaning) on ​​the base of the date palm. She (Maryam) said, “Oh if only I had died before this and become someone who is not noticed and forgotten (forever).” He (Gabriel) called out to him from a low place, “Do not be sad. Verily, your Lord has made streams beneath you.” (QS 19:23-24)

2. Avoid Anemia

Dates contain higher iron which is good for pregnant women that sometimes could lead to anemia. Consuming dates would avoid anemia significantly is one of the benefits of dates for pregnant women according to Islam.

The Quran is already mentioned the benefits of dates for pregnant women, such as mentioned in the Quran surah Maryam verses 25-26 below that can be one of the Quran surah to recite in the morning.

وَهُزِّيْٓ اِلَيْكِ بِجِذْعِ النَّخْلَةِ تُسٰقِطْ عَلَيْكِ رُطَبًا جَنِيًّا ۖ

فَكُلِيْ وَاشْرَبِيْ وَقَرِّيْ عَيْنًا ۚفَاِمَّا تَرَيِنَّ مِنَ الْبَشَرِ اَحَدًاۙ فَقُوْلِيْٓ اِنِّيْ نَذَرْتُ لِلرَّحْمٰنِ صَوْمًا فَلَنْ اُكَلِّمَ الْيَوْمَ اِنْسِيًّا ۚ

Shake the base of the date palm toward you, surely (the tree) will drop ripe dates on you. Eat, drink, and rejoice thou. If you see someone, say, ‘Verily I have vowed to fast (speak) for God, the Most Merciful. Therefore, I will not speak to anyone today.’” (QS 19:25-26)

3. Maintain folate need

Dates contain higher iron which is good for pregnant women that sometimes could lead to anemia. Consuming dates would avoid anemia significantly is one of the benefits of dates for pregnant women according to Islam.

The Quran already mentions the benefits of dates for pregnant women, such as mentioned in the Quran surah Maryam verses 25-26 below.

وَفِى الْاَرْضِ قِطَعٌ مُّتَجٰوِرٰتٌ وَّجَنّٰتٌ مِّنْ اَعْنَابٍ وَّزَرْعٌ وَّنَخِيْلٌ صِنْوَانٌ وَّغَيْرُ صِنْوَانٍ يُّسْقٰى بِمَاۤءٍ وَّاحِدٍۙ وَّنُفَضِّلُ بَعْضَهَا عَلٰى بَعْضٍ فِى الْاُكُلِۗ اِنَّ فِيْ ذٰلِكَ لَاٰيٰتٍ لِّقَوْمٍ يَّعْقِلُوْنَ

“In the earth, there are adjoining divisions, vineyards, crops, and date palms, branched and unbranched. (All) are watered with the same water, but We prefer one plant over another in its taste. Verily, in that there are indeed signs (of Allah’s greatness) for people who understand.” (QS 13:4)

4. Avoid digestive problem

Dates contain a higher fiber that good to avoid digestive problem that leads to constipation problem during pregnancy. Fiber from dates would maintain the fiber needs of women as one of the benefits of dates for pregnant women according to Islam.

Moreover, it is already mentioned in the Quran surah Al Baqarah verse 266 below.

اَيَوَدُّ اَحَدُكُمْ اَنْ تَكُوْنَ لَهٗ جَنَّةٌ مِّنْ نَّخِيْلٍ وَّاَعْنَابٍ تَجْرِيْ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهٰرُۙ لَهٗ فِيْهَا مِنْ كُلِّ الثَّمَرٰتِۙ وَاَصَابَهُ الْكِبَرُ وَلَهٗ ذُرِّيَّةٌ ضُعَفَاۤءُۚ فَاَصَابَهَآ اِعْصَارٌ فِيْهِ نَارٌ فَاحْتَرَقَتْ ۗ كَذٰلِكَ يُبَيِّنُ اللّٰهُ لَكُمُ الْاٰيٰتِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَفَكَّرُوْنَ ࣖ

“Would anyone of you wish to have gardens of date palms and grapevines beneath which rivers flow, where he will have all kinds of fruit? Then, comes old age, while he has children who are still small. Then, the garden was blown by a strong wind containing fire so it burned. Thus Allah explains His verses to you so that you think about (it).” (QS 2:266)

5. Increasing the immune

Dates contain a higher protein, polyphenol, and carotene, which are good for increasing the immune both the baby and the mother. The facts lead it the benefits of dates for pregnant women according to Islam.

Moreover, it is already mentioned in the Quran surah Al An’am verse 141 below so that you might get the values of reading the Quran at Fajr.

وَهُوَ الَّذِيْٓ اَنْشَاَ جَنّٰتٍ مَّعْرُوْشٰتٍ وَّغَيْرَ مَعْرُوْشٰتٍ وَّالنَّخْلَ وَالزَّرْعَ مُخْتَلِفًا اُكُلُهٗ وَالزَّيْتُوْنَ وَالرُّمَّانَ مُتَشَابِهًا وَّغَيْرَ مُتَشَابِهٍۗ كُلُوْا مِنْ ثَمَرِهٖٓ اِذَآ اَثْمَرَ وَاٰتُوْا حَقَّهٗ يَوْمَ حَصَادِهٖۖ وَلَا تُسْرِفُوْا ۗاِنَّهٗ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُسْرِفِيْنَۙ

“It is He who causes vines and non-vines to grow, date palms, plants of various tastes, and olives and pomegranates that are alike (shape and color) and dissimilar (taste). Eat its fruit when it bears fruit and give its due (zakat) when reaping the fruit. However, don’t overdo it. Verily, Allah does not like those who are extravagant.” (QS 6:141)
