In Islam, jealousy and envy happen to them who not feeling grateful to Allah. They are only busy with what others have without realizing what they owned. Islam taught us to get rid of jealousy and envy. In the Quran surah, An Nahl verse 71 mentions about this.
“And Allah exalts some of you over others in terms of sustenance, but those who are exaggerated (sustenance) do not want to give their sustenance to the slaves they have, so that they equally (feel) sustenance. Why do they deny the favor of Allah?”
Here we have 5 lists why we should get rid of the jealousy and envy feeling for others based on the Quran.
Jealousy is a kind of act that can cause anger. It can be worst when envy coming over jealousy. If we get jealous with others it will simply ruin your relationship. It can happen along with your family, friends, or colleagues. We need to get rid of this jealousy because it can destroy our relationships with others.
Indeed Allah loves them who keep a good relationship with others even if we come from different backgrounds. Such as know the meaning of tolerance in perspective Islam and lesson of peace learn from Islamic value in everyday life. In the Quran surah, Al Hujurah verse 13 mentions about this.
“O, people! Indeed, We have created you from a man and a woman, then We made you nationals and tribes so that you know each other. Surely the noblest of you in the sight of Allah is the most pious. Truly, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Exact.”
As the jealousy comes every time and everywhere to you, it will be overwhelmed in your mind. The feeling will destroy your pieces by pieces because it causes anxiety and depression.
As we could not afford what others have so that the anxiety comes. As the anxiety becomes bigger on yourselves so that it spirals into the depression.
That is why we need to get rid of jealousy because it harms ourselves. Allah does not love them who make any harm to their selves. In the Quran surah, An Nisa verse 29 mentions about this.
“And do not kill yourself. Truly, Allah is Most Merciful to you.”
Jealousy makes us overwhelmed by anger and anger leads to resentment. This act should avoid by every Muslims because giving a resentment to others is forbidden. The prophet Muhammad taught us to keep good deeds and handle type of lust in Islam. That is why we need to get rid of jealousy.
In the Quran surah, Al Isra verse 83 mentions that people will always get despair even if they already have everything.
“And if We give pleasure to man, surely he turns away and distances himself with pride; and if he is afflicted with distress, surely he will despair.”
As the jealousy comes up to us, it will make us even busier to think about what others have. Unconsciously, we become following to have what others have even though we can’t afford it.
We try one or another way to get what others have without seeing what we already have. This kind of activity makes our freedom tied up by jealousy.
The worst part is that we forget that Allah mentions on the Quran surah Az Zukhruf verse 32 that everything comes on its portion.
“Do those who divide the mercy of your Lord? We are the ones who determine their livelihoods in the life of the world, and we have raised some of them above others to some degree so that some of them can use some of the others. And the grace of your Lord is better than what they collect.”
Jealousy makes us so busy to see what others have without realizing what we have. We always comparing what we have with others. We never get satisfied with what we have. We have never been so grateful for what we have. This terrible act has to be avoided for ourselves.
Allah does not love them who don’t have any gratitude for all they have. Being grateful is better than complaining about what we have. The purpose of believing in Allah for Muslims is about gratitude they’ve got. In the Quran surah Ibrahim verse 7 mention about this.
“And (remember) when your Lord declares, “Indeed, if you are grateful, surely I will add (favor) to you, but if you deny (my favor), then surely my punishment is very heavy.”
After seeing these 5 of the bad effects of jealousy, we should get rid of it. Jealousy makes us get far away from Allah’s grant and we don’t want that happen. That is why let’s take a little time to be more grateful because there are a lot of benefits to being grateful.
