One of the surahs in the 67th order in the Qur’an, surah Al-Mulk. In this surah, Allah asserts various proofs of His power and teachings. In addition, this surah also has many benefits for humans.

This article will give you a little review about the explanation of Surah Al-Mulk and its benefits for Muslims if they are willing to read, memorize, or even practice the values of it. This is it the blessing virtues of surah Al-Mulk in Islam.

Overview of Surah Al-Mulk

Surah Al-Mulk is the 67th surah in the Qur’an. It belongs to the Makkiyah group. This surah was revealed by Allah to Rasulullah (PBUH) before Muslims migrated to Medina.

Surah Al-Mulk also referred to as Surah Tabarak. The name tabarak comes from the first verse of this surah which means ‘the Most Holy’. Literally, the name Tabarak comes from the word baraka which means to give blessings.

In addition, Imam az-Zamakhsyari, in al-Kasysyaf’s tafsir, gave the name of this surah by the name al-Waqi’ah which means ‘to maintain’. He also named this surah by the name al-Mujiyah which means ‘liberating’.

When the two meanings are combined, it will form the intention that this surah preserves and frees from the torment of the grave for anyone who reads it.

There is also another narration says that this surah is named Tabaraka al ladzi biyadihi al-Mulk and Tabaraka al-Mulk which means “Blessed be He in Whose hands is Dominion”.

Surah Al-Mulk’s Content

As with other Makkiyah surahs, surah Al-Mulk has a content that emphasizes the cultivation of Islamic aqeedah.

There are three main things discussed in this surah; the first one is establishing Allah’s greatness and His power in reviving humans after death; reveal the postulates about Allah Almighty; and explain the final fate of those who dare to deny Yawm al-Qiyāmah or the Day of Resurrection.

This Surah tries to show how powerful Allah is in managing the face of the Earth. This surah seems to indicate the vast and great empire of Allah.

The whole universe and everything in it is the kingdom ruled directly by Allah. It was revealed in it that Allah created all the heavens and the Earth along with the stars in the sky.

In addition, this surah also tried to show examples of the story of Asiya bint Muzahim (wife of Fir’aun/Pharaoh) and Maryam bint Imran (mother of prophet Isa A.S) as the people who was glorified by Allah SWT.

Allah also shows in this surah that all people who do not acknowledge the Day of Resurrection and do not want to worship Him will occupy hell.

If the blessing virtues of Al-Ikhlas in Islam convey about The Oneness of Allah, then this Surah clearly illustrates how Almighty and Supreme King of Allah is above all kings in the entire universe.

The Benefits of Reading and Understanding Surah Al Mulk

There is not a single thing in this world that Allah created and sent down to humans without any benefit in it. Likewise, every verse or surah in the Qur’an.

We already know the blessing virtues of Surah Yasin as the heart of Qur’an. Allah also give blessing virtues of Surah Al-Mulk for every Muslim who wants to read and understand it.

There are approximately 4 benefits that can be obtained by Muslims who want to read and understand the Surah Al-Mulk, namely:

1. Sins will be forgiven

From Abu Hurairah, the Rasulullah (PBUH) asserted:

There is a surah from the Qur’an that consists of 30 verses, the surah can provide syafa’at for ‘his friend’ (i.e people who read it a lot) so that the person is forgiven of his sins, namely: Surah Tabarokalladi bi yadihil mulk“. (Narrated by Abu Dawud with his editorial, narrated by at-Tirmidhi and others)

The purpose of Allah will forgive the sins of those who read it is that those who read it will realize how Almighty and Mighty Allah is. That is why when you are sinning, you should know that there is a list of the unforgivable sins in Islam.

Thus, Muslims who read it will soon repent for fear of the torment of Allah and expect reward and heaven from Allah SWT.

By repenting, the sins of the Muslims who recite this surah will be forgiven by Allah SWT. They will become His better servants who always carry out His commands and stay away from His prohibitions.

Not just reading Surah Al-Mulk which does not have any impact on his behavior. Things like this will not make Allah forgive his sins.

2. Avoided the grave’s torture and the hell’s torture

From Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, Rasulullah (PBUH) said, “Whoever reads the Tabarokalladi bi yadihil mulk surah every night, then Allah azza wajall avoids it from the grave’s torment, and in the past we (the companions) when Rosulullah (PBUH) (still alive) named it by the name, “Al-Mani’ah” (dodge/barrier).”

Indeed the surah is in the Quran, whoever reads it one night, then he has done a lot of goodness “(Narrated by Nasa’i with his editorial, narrated by al-Hakim and he said: sanad shohih, and was celebrated by Albani)

As in the previous point that people who read this surah will realize how dreadful the punishment of Allah SWT. Thus, they will repent and avoid the torment of the grave and the torment of hell which is very painful.

It will be different with people who only read but do not understand the purpose of this Surah Al-Mulk. For those who only read without knowing the meaning of this Surah Al-Mulk, they will not be affected by the contents contained in this surah.

They only assume that this surah can bring blessings while they have no effort at all to understand the meaning of this surah.

Therefore, those who can understand this surah will be avoided from the grave’s torture and the fire of hell because they understand that the punishment of Allah is very painful.

3. Keep away from immorality

In Surah Al-Mulk verse 12 itself is clearly asserted by Allah as follows:

As for those who fear their Lord unseen, for them is Forgiveness and a great reward.“(QS Al Mulk: 12)

Muslims who truly understand this verse will practice it well. They will become Muslims who truly believe in Allah, both when it is busy or quiet.

They believe that Allah always sees all the behavior they do, whether they do it secretly or openly. Thus, they will be afraid and they will to improve their faith in Islam.

While people who just read this letter without understanding its meaning will only get fluency and memorization without getting guidance that is able to take them away from immoral acts.

4. Making us as tawakkal people

Also in this surah, precisely verse 15, Allah explains that tawakkal is not just silence in accepting the results, but also trying with all our strength.

Allah says

It is He who made the earth tame for you – so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision – and to Him is the resurrection.” (Surah al-Mulk: 15).

By truly understanding the verse above, we will become His servants who do not know despair. We will believe that the process we do will be in harmony with the results because Allah never breaks His promise that those who try will get satisfying results, that is one of benefits of tawakkul in Allah SWT.

Wisdom

Surah Al-Mulk is indeed a special surah. This Surah not only explains how Almighty Allah is. This Surah is also capable of providing extraordinary effects for Muslims who want to read, understand, or memorize it. As a muslim you should know the benefits of memorizing Quran.
