13 Concept of Time Islam As a Privilege from Allah SWT

Time is the precious thing in the world. It’s the greatest gift Allah has ever give to mankind, since they are in their full power and will of how would they use their time. So that the saying “Time is Money” is absolutely true. Time is very precious, as once it has passed, it will never come back. Allah SWT commands every Muslim not to ever waste their time, since wasting time may cause the biggest lost for them.

As Muslims, we need to fully understand about the concept of time in Islam. How should we use our time so that it benefiting us, and what are the consequences may come from wasting the time.

So here are the concept of time in Islam:

1. Time Should be Benefiting to Human

As Allah has given us time to live in the world, make sure that every time spent by doing good deeds which later bring us to Jannah. Don’t let ourselves loose because of time.

As narrated from Ibn Abbas, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“There are two blessings which many people loose: (They are) health and free time for doing good.” – Bukhari

2. Don’t Let Time Become Your Obstacle

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said,

“Lose no time to do good deeds before you are caught up by one of seven calamities awaiting you: a starvation which may impair your wisdom; a prosperity which may mislead you; an ailment which may damage your health; an old age which may harm your senses; a sudden death; the Dajjal (Antichrist); or Doomsday, which is indeed the hardest and most bitter.” – Tirmidhi & Baihaqi

3. Time is Superior

Later on the Day of Judgement, human will be asked of how they have used the privilege Allah has given.

As narrated by Ibn Abbas, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“Take advantage of five matters before five other matters: your youth before you become old; your health, before you fall sick; your wealth, before you become poor; your free time before you become preoccupied, and your life, before your death.” – Ahmad

4. Time As a Blessing from Allah

Time is one of the greatest blessing from Allah to mankind. Most of the time should be used to worship Allah and doing good deeds in the name of Allah. Be grateful of time you have by being obeying Allah.

“If you are grateful, I shall certainly give you increase.” –  Ibrahim (14:7)

5. Time is the Key to Success

Whoever spend his time wisely in doing many good deeds will be successful both in the world and in the Hereafter.

“By Al-’Asr (the time). Verily, man is in loss. Except those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and recommend one another to the truth and recommend one another to patience.” – Al Asr (103:1-3)

6. Time Will Never Turn Back

What makes time as the most precious thing human could ever have is that it will never turn back. Yesterday could not be rewind and it can’t be fixed the next day. It’s why wasting time is human’s biggest lost. Allah SWT and our Prophet (peace be upon him) repeatedly saying in the Quran or Hadith that we should do the best in every time we had. Once we lost it, it will never return.

7. Human Will Lose Many Over Time

It is true that time is the best form or leisure. Over the time, we can lose literally everything we have, and the worst is the loss of our loved ones. Wealth can be seek, but our loved ones can’t. While we have time, treat everyone around with kindness so no regrets coming later.

8. Time Should Not be Wasted

Time should be used wisely and wasting time means disobeying Allah. Even worse if we use most of our time to commit sins and other doing Allah hates the most. For every seconds pass without being in remembrance of Allah is like denying His favor.

9. Be Responsible of the Leisure of Time

The time we have is not free at all. Later, we will be asked for responsibility of how we have use our time.

Narrated from Abdullah ibn Mas’ud, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“A man shall be asked concerning five things on the day of resurrection: concerning his life, how he spent it; concerning his youth, how he grew old; concerning his wealth, whence he acquired it, and in what way he spent it; and what was it that he did with the knowledge that he had.” – Tirmidhi

10. Time Will Runs Out Fast

Before we knew it, many time will passed and we may ended up in regret of how we haven’t use wisely. So that time should never be let pass in vain.

“All that on earth will perish.” – Ar Rahman (55:26)

11. Time As a Prove Everything is Temporary

As the time passed by, many will change, people come and go, some are dead while others are born. It only proves that everything is temporary since nobody has unlimited time in this world and as a good Muslim, we must be perfectly aware of it.

12. Allah Judges Human by How He Used His Time

Indeed, Allah will judge us by how we use our time.

“And on the Day when He shall gather (resurrect) them together, (it will be) as if they had not stayed (in the life of this world and graves, etc) but an hour of a day.” – Yunus (10:45)

13. Wasting Time is Worse Than Death

What is worse than death? Someone who waste his time. As said by Ibn al Qayyim,

“Wasting time is worse than death, because death separates you from his world whereas wasting time separates you from Allah.”

So those are all the concept of time in Islam for every Muslim to know. Now that we have fully understand how important time is in life, let’s make the most of our time to become the best Muslims in the world and afterlife.
