What Does Islam Say about Repeating The Same Sin?

As human beings, we are a person that never free from sin, and sometimes it is hard to stop even if we try so hard to repent it. Islam taught us to repent our sin towards Allah and promise to never repeat the same sin as the ethics towards yourself in Islam.

The fact is not as easy as it mentions in the Quran. As human beings, most people repeat the same sin. But, is that Allah still forgiving us?

How does Islam see about this situation? While for some people who always repeating the same sin, it is very hard to struggle with those circumstances.

So, here we have some Islam perspective on what should people do if they repeating the same sin again and again. Truthfully, Allah is the most merciful one.

1. Do The Right Repentance

Repentance in Islam refers to the Istighfar as they represent the most regret from their hearts and soul. The deep meaning behind it is that we come towards Allah, seeking His forgiveness.

After that, we search His blessing to cure our hearts so that we can overcome sin. On the contrary, for some people that repeating their same sin have to do the most repenting towards Allah.

The prophet Muhammad said, “ Twice in each day, I ask Allah’s forgiveness seventy times.” This means we should come towards Allah for seeking forgiveness and put the trust only in Him.

In the Quran Surah Al Furqan verse 70 mentions that:

“Except those who repent and believe and do good; then their evil is replaced by God with good. Allah is Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

2. The Test of Faith

If we keep repeating the same sin again and again, it means that the faith towards Allah sincerely doubted. We have to put the trust in Allah only so that we can get more blessings.

But, if we keep repenting our sin, again and again, it makes us closer to Allah. That means, our faith towards Allah is clear enough to Allah to forgive our sin as the manners of knowledge seeker in Islam.

In the Quran surah, Al Ankabut verse 2-3 mentions about this.

“Do people think that they will be left only by saying, “We have faith,” and they are not tested? And truly, We have tested those before them, so Allah must know those who are true and certainly know those who lie.”

3. Deception of the Soul

Most people who did the same sin, again and again, have deception in their souls as the effects of sins in Islam. They become an invulnerable person of their sin and make them away from Allah’s blessing.

If we don’t want this thing to happen to us, we should be asking forgiveness towards Allah by recite Istighfar and replaced the sin with some good deeds.

In the Quran surah, Al Baqarah verse 165 mentions about this.

“And among humans, there are people who worship God other than Allah as a match, who they love as they love God. As for those who have great faith, their love for Allah. If those who do wrong see, when they see the punishment (on the Day of Judgment), that the power belongs to Allah and that Allah is very severe in punishment (surely they regret it).”

4. Never Give Up

Some people who keep repeating the same sin, again and again, tried harder to make it right. That is why they need some time to reflect on themselves to realize that what they did are wrong.

Instead of repeating the same sin, Islam taught us to replaced them into a good deed.

The important thing behind the replacement is asking for forgiveness towards Allah as much as you can.

Because Allah’s punishment is terrified, that is why we need to ask His forgiveness. In the Quran surah, Al Furqon verse 65 mentions that:

“And those who say, “O our Lord, keep the punishment of hell from us, for, in fact, the punishment makes eternal damnation,”

5. Repentance Urgently Needed

Repentance towards Allah is urgently needed wherever and whenever you did the wrong thing current the sin. The Quran as the essential source for Muslims should be taken seriously as the guidelines to seek forgiveness towards Allah.

We need to keep our five a day prayer, do the virtues of sunnah prayer, and recite Istighfar as much as you can. Allah loves them who come to him asking for forgiveness instead of doing nothing.

It shows that your faith towards Allah is firmly built around yourself. In the Quran surah Maryam verse 47 mentions that we should ask forgiveness towards Allah only and avoids the types of shirk in Islam.

“He (Ibrahim) said, “May salvation be bestowed upon you, I will ask forgiveness for you from my Lord. Indeed, He is very kind to me.”

So, there are some glances on what should we do if we keep repeating the same sin again and again. Allah is the most merciful one so that we need to seek His forgiveness. May Allah give His blessing to you.
