How To Deal With A Spoiled Child in Islam

Dealing with a spoiled child sometimes can be hard tough. It will not only take your time and effort to feel waste, more than that, but it also takes your patience to the lowest limit you can reach.

Even so, Muslims should be more patient when dealing with their spoiled child. It becomes one of the responsibilities of parents to their children. That is why parents will try their best to deal with them such as do some reading Quran surah to recite in the morning.

In Islam, there are so many ways to deal with a spoiled child. Here we summarized some of them that were recited from the Quran. Check them out below!

1. Be Patience

Patience becomes the best way to deal with a spoiled child. Even it feels so hard sometimes, but Muslims believe there will be good times after their hard time. By keep holding on to their good things to deal with their spoiled child, may Allah will give the child change their perspective.

You may don’t even need some ways on how to perform Ruqyah on yourself but bear with the patience you facing through. Such as mentions in the Quran surah Al Baqarah verse 155 below.

وَلَنَبْلُوَنَّكُمْ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنَ الْخَوْفِ وَالْجُوْعِ وَنَقْصٍ مِّنَ الْاَمْوَالِ وَالْاَنْفُسِ وَالثَّمَرٰتِۗ وَبَشِّرِ الصّٰبِرِيْنَ – ١٥٥

“And We will surely test you with a little fear, hunger, lack of wealth, soul, and fruit. And give glad tidings to those who are patient,” (QS 2:155)

2. Make a Discussion

Talking to your spoiled can be a good way to deal with them. Having some discussion about how they should and shouldn’t do will make them realized their responsibility towards every acts they take.

Besides, as Muslims, parents have their duty to teach their children about their duty towards Allah. That is why it is important to make a discussion about these things. One or another way will make them understand the benefits of obeying parents in Islam.

وَوَصّٰى بِهَآ اِبْرٰهٖمُ بَنِيْهِ وَيَعْقُوْبُۗ يٰبَنِيَّ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ اصْطَفٰى لَكُمُ الدِّيْنَ فَلَا تَمُوْتُنَّ اِلَّا وَاَنْتُمْ مُّسْلِمُوْنَ ۗ – ١٣٢

“And Abraham willed (say) it to his children, as well as Jacob. “O, my children! Verily Allah has chosen this religion for you, so do not die unless you are Muslim.” (QS 2:132)

3. Give a Task

Teaching your spoiled child about responsibility can be a good thing so that they know it. By giving some simple tasks to them, it can be a simple way to make them learn. Besides, they need to know what’s good and not good in their daily life towards others.

Being a spoiled child doesn’t mean they are allowed to do things as they want. They need to know about the consequences so that they will be good towards themselves and others. This can be the one explanation of parenting from an Islamic perspective for your spoiled child.

Such as mentions in the Quranic verse 16 below that has so many values of the surah Luqman.

يٰبُنَيَّ اِنَّهَآ اِنْ تَكُ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّةٍ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ فَتَكُنْ فِيْ صَخْرَةٍ اَوْ فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ اَوْ فِى الْاَرْضِ يَأْتِ بِهَا اللّٰهُ ۗاِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَطِيْفٌ خَبِيْرٌ – ١٦

“(Lukman said), “O my son! Indeed, if there is (an action) the weight of a mustard seed, and it is in a rock or in the sky or on the earth, Allah will surely give it (reply). Verily Allah is Subtle, All-Aware.” (QS 31:16)

4. Make a Good Example

Most children see their parents as their role models include spoiled children. That is why giving a good example for them can be a good way to deal with them.

Instead of told them what should and shouldn’t do without a real act, make a good practice can make them realized the good deed inside. Such as mentions in the Quran surah Ibrahim verses 24 – 26 below.

اَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ ضَرَبَ اللّٰهُ مَثَلًا كَلِمَةً طَيِّبَةً كَشَجَرَةٍ طَيِّبَةٍ اَصْلُهَا ثَابِتٌ وَّفَرْعُهَا فِى السَّمَاۤءِۙ – ٢٤

تُؤْتِيْٓ اُكُلَهَا كُلَّ حِيْنٍ ۢبِاِذْنِ رَبِّهَاۗ وَيَضْرِبُ اللّٰهُ الْاَمْثَالَ لِلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُوْنَ – ٢٥

وَمَثَلُ كَلِمَةٍ خَبِيْثَةٍ كَشَجَرَةٍ خَبِيْثَةِ ِۨاجْتُثَّتْ مِنْ فَوْقِ الْاَرْضِ مَا لَهَا مِنْ قَرَارٍ – ٢٦

“Have you not noticed how Allah has made a parable of a good sentence like a good tree, its roots are strong and its branches (tower) to the sky, (the tree) bears its fruit at any time by the permission of its Lord. And Allah made this parable for people so that they will always remember it. And the parable of a bad sentence is like a bad tree, which has been uprooted from the face of the earth; cannot stay (upright) in the slightest.” (QS 14: 24-25)

5. Make Dua

The important thing on how to deal with a spoiled child in Islam is to make Dua about it. Having it on your pray and wishing Allah will give His blessing to your spoiled child so that they will keep doing good deeds such as taking five prayers a day and many more.

Dua can be the greatest thing that Muslims do. May Allah will give His blessing to parents that make good Dua for their spoiled child.

Such as mentions in the Quran surah Ibrahim verse 40 below.

رَبِّ اجْعَلْنِيْ مُقِيْمَ الصَّلٰوةِ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِيْۖ رَبَّنَا وَتَقَبَّلْ دُعَاۤءِ – ٤٠

O my Lord, make me and my children and grandchildren those who continue to pray, O our Lord, please accept my prayer.” QS (14:40)

Besides, on the Quran surah, Al Furqon verse 74 mentions the good thing to make dua for parents’ spoiled child.

وَالَّذِيْنَ يَقُوْلُوْنَ رَبَّنَا هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ اَزْوَاجِنَا وَذُرِّيّٰتِنَا قُرَّةَ اَعْيُنٍ وَّاجْعَلْنَا لِلْمُتَّقِيْنَ اِمَامًا – ٧٤

And those who say, “Our Lord, bestow upon us our spouses and our offspring as pleasing to (our) hearts, and make us leaders of those who are pious.” (QS 25:74)
