13 Importance of Agriculture in Islam

Formers is a noble profession because they can give advantages to others with all of business been doing which is the food needs. The merit will get double rewards especially when the farmer is a Moslem, he is not only getting rewards from his harvest, but also getting rewards at the doomsday.

It is stated on a Muslim narrated about the virtues of cultivate whereas at the time Rasulullah SAW met Ummu Basyar Al-Anshariyah at the garden date.

The Prophet was asking the ownership of the garden due to cultivate hundred of dates in the garden. Rasulullah SAW asked,” Is he a Moslem or non Muslim?” when He got the answered the owner of the garden date is a Moslem, the Prophet revealed about the rewards applies at the garden date.

Rasulullah SAW said that there will be noble rewards for a Moslem which is doing cultivation and process it into food for any type of living creatures both human and animal needs as it as it will be recorded as charities for him until the end of the world.

فَلاَ يَغْرِسُ الْمُسْلِمُ غَرْسًا فَيَأْكُلَ مِنْهُ إِنْسَانٌ وَ لاَ دَابَّةٌ وَ لاَ طَيْرٌ إِلاَّ كَانَ لَهُ صَدَقَةً إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

“There is none Moslem doing cultivation and then the harvest is eaten by any kind of human, animals nor fowls but the harvest is become his charities until the dooms come.” (HR. Imam Muslim hadidh no. 1552-10).  

Below are the virtues of cultivation in Islam verse;

  1. Provide advantages for ourselves and others

Farming is a production activity in harvesting the food necessities.  In addition, the harvest from the cultivation is worthwhile for the farmer himself and also for society like fruit, grains, and also palawija.

  1. Helps our environment become healthier and clean

Plants which are planting by the farmer will produce more oxygen than before which is needed by all creatures in respiratory process. In addition, the trees will also provide shade for those who are take shelter under the tress and give coolness for its surrounding.

  1. Make a beautiful view to be seen

The calm and cool scenery with full of shady plants and fresh will make our heart feeling comfort and happy to be there. In the vice, the dry and barren view will make our heart un happy and uncomfortable being there.

  1. Give rewards for the planter

The harvest which is being processed by human into food and being eaten for human himself and also the other animals including fowls, will be charities field for the planters even it is only a piece. Rasulullah SAW said,”

 

مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَغْرِسُ غَرْسًا إِلاَّ كَانَ مَا أُكِلَ مِنْهُ لَهُ صَدَقَةً وَ مَا سُرِقَ مِنْهُ لَهُ صَدَقَةً وَ مَا أَكَلَتِ الطَّيْرُ فَهُوَ لَهُ صَدَقَةً وَ لاَ يَرْزَؤُهُ أَحَدٌ إِلاَّ كَانَ لَهُ صَدَقَةً

“There is none Moslem who cultivate the plants but only to be eaten from the harvest that will become charities for the planter, the harvest being stolen will become the planter charities too and there is none who dare to seize the harvest will become the planter charities.”  (HR.   1. Farming helps improving the economy

Agricultural products like fruits, grains and palawija can be sold at the market to fulfill the society needs. It will help all parties in economical side because there is trading in it. Still, the trading is need to be cleaned and honest as of as selling and buying roles in Islam.

  1. Farming can increase the value of our faith and Godly to Allah SWT

The good, healthy harvesting like fruits, grains and palawija are because of Allah SWT and it help the farmer to thankful more to Allah SWT so it can motivate the farmer himself to perform his profession. As Allah SWT commandment, “

“And He is the one who drops the rain from the sky, then we make the plants are growing in various types, then we take it out from the green, the plenty good harvest from the green plants.” (QS. Al-An’am 6:99). [AdSense-A]

  1. Cultivation is a recommendation activity from Rasulullah SAW

Rasulullah SAW is encouraged to all Moslem to do farming activity because it is from our effort. The prophet of Muhammad SAW said, “


مَا أَكَلَ أَحَدٌ طَعَامًا قَطُّ خَيْرًا مِنْ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ مِنْ عَمَلِ يَدِهِ وَأَنَّ نَبِىَ اللهِ دَاوُدَ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْكُلُ مِنْ عَمَلِ يَدِه

 

“There is none better food produced except from our effort by doing farming and the Prophet of Dawud AS is eating from the harvest of His own crop.”

  1. Cultivation can improve the technological development

The increasing of human needs is the reason most of the farmers to do more creative when harvest time come.

Producers are expected to be more productive in developing his harvest and competing with other producers to get the best harvest in good ways so they can sell it into the market and enjoyable by customers.

Here, we can see that from traditional equipment are changing and develops into modern equipment, like they create modern processing machine in order to get better and optimal agricultural result. It also develops the trade and technology industries flourish.

  1. Make someone to get closer with Allah SWT

When the farmers are planting their crops, they hope it can grow luxuriant and healthy. The hopes are the reasons to make them get closer to Allah SWT because it is on God’s authority.

  1. Farming can make our body become healthier

All active movements which have been doing by the farmers will make our body healthier because we are sweating as if as we are doing exercise.

  1. Farming can save other lives surrounding

Agricultural products can help others to fulfill their needs, therefore, other than worship for themselves; people will also grateful for products cropped.


عَجَبًا لأَمْرِ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِنَّ أَمْرَهُ كُلَّهُ خَيْرٌ وَ لَيْسَ ذَلِكَ لأَحَدٍ إِلاَّ لِلْمُؤْمِنِ: إِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ سَرَّاءُ شَكَرَ فَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَهُ, وَ إِنْ أَصَابَتْهُ ضَرَّاءُ صَبَرَ فَكَانَ خَيْرًا لَهُ

“It is amazing looking at a matter of a Mukmin, indeed, all the matter are goodness for him, and it is not obtain unless He is faithfully; when he gets pleasure (enjoyable), he is grateful and so it is good for him and when he gets difficulties (calamities) overwrite to him then he is patient and it is good for him too.”  (HR. Imama Muslim read Riyadhush Shalihin book hadidh no. 27)

  1. Cropping area can be used as educational facilities for children

Today, situation and condition from the farming area are different from the previously. The cropping area are become one of educational facilities for children at school and it also be amusement area for adult because it can be enjoyable by everyone.

In addition, there are many schools are having field trip to the urban area in order to get good knowledge about the worthwhile of the farming since earlier ages. In fact, there are amusements facilities are being built at the cities with the theme of agriculture so it can enjoyable both for adult and children.

  1. Agricultural products can be used as medical ingredients

Aside of being consumable food, some of agricultural products can also used as medical healing.  Supporting with the good technology, traditional medicines were packing in good condition so its efficacy will last long.
