Explanation of Parenting In Islamic Perspective

A good parenting technique can be the most precious moment for children. That is why in the Islamic culture Muslims should understand with a parenting role. Good parenting makes good children too. Not only good in society but also in front of Allah such as teach them the ways to teach your children to memorize the Quran.

Parents become the most important rule to prepare their children for the hereafter. They prepare them to be ready for it so may Allah will give His blessing and gratitude to avoid them from the hellfire as the virtues of teaching in Islam.

It mentions on the Quran surah At Tahrim verse 6 below.

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا قُوْٓا اَنْفُسَكُمْ وَاَهْلِيْكُمْ نَارًا وَّقُوْدُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلٰۤىِٕكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَّا يَعْصُوْنَ اللّٰهَ مَآ اَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُوْنَ مَا يُؤْمَرُوْنَ – ٦

“O believers! Protect yourself and your family from the fires of hell whose fuel is human and stone; guardians of rough, hard angels who are not disobedient to God for what He commands them to do and always do what is commanded.” (QS 66:6)

Based on the verse above, what should we do to become a good parent in the  Islamic way? Here we have some perspective on parenting in Islam that you should know based on the Quran.

1. Understand The Fundamental Concept

Parents should understand the fundamental concept of having children. Not only they have to raise them properly, but also keep a huge responsibility for them. Allah mentions that their children are a trial for them as the ethics towards yourself in Islam.

It mentions in the Quran surah Al Anfal verse 28.

وَاعْلَمُوْٓا اَنَّمَآ اَمْوَالُكُمْ وَاَوْلَادُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌ ۙوَّاَنَّ اللّٰهَ عِنْدَهٗٓ اَجْرٌ عَظِيْمٌ ࣖ – ٢٨

“And know that your possessions and your children are only a trial, and indeed with Allah, there is a great reward” (QS 8:28)

2. Teach The Rights Of Others Felow

In Islam, it is important to make good relationships with others. Social culture becomes the most important thing to make a good connection with others. That is why there is helping each other rules in Islam.

Parents should teach their children to avoid an arrogant and stingy character. Allah doesn’t love these things but a good deed is mandatory.

On the Quran surah, An Nisa verses 36-37 mentions this.

وَاعْبُدُوا اللّٰهَ وَلَا تُشْرِكُوْا بِهٖ شَيْـًٔا وَّبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ اِحْسَانًا وَّبِذِى الْقُرْبٰى وَالْيَتٰمٰى وَالْمَسٰكِيْنِ وَالْجَارِ ذِى الْقُرْبٰى وَالْجَارِ الْجُنُبِ وَالصَّاحِبِ بِالْجَنْۢبِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيْلِۙ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ اَيْمَانُكُمْ ۗ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يُحِبُّ مَنْ كَانَ مُخْتَالًا فَخُوْرًاۙ – ٣٦  ۨالَّذِيْنَ يَبْخَلُوْنَ وَيَأْمُرُوْنَ النَّاسَ بِالْبُخْلِ وَيَكْتُمُوْنَ مَآ اٰتٰىهُمُ اللّٰهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهٖۗ وَاَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكٰفِرِيْنَ عَذَابًا مُّهِيْنًاۚ – ٣٧

“And worship Allah and do not associate Him with anything. And do good to your parents, close relatives, orphans, poor people, close neighbors and distant neighbors, peers, ibn sabil and servants you have. Truly, Allah does not like people who are arrogant and boast, (ie) those who are stingy, and order others to be stingy, and hide the gifts that Allah has given him. We have provided for humiliating disbelievers doom.” (QS 4:36-37)

3. Developing Good Character

Parents should lead not only to avoid bad deeds for children but also to idolatry. Parents should develop a good character such as helping each other, do charity, empathy, justice, and many more as long as parallel with Islamic rules.

It is important to parenting your children to become a pious person. A pious person has a good character which loves by Allah, such mention on the Quran surah Al Maidah verse 27.

وَاتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَاَ ابْنَيْ اٰدَمَ بِالْحَقِّۘ اِذْ قَرَّبَا قُرْبَانًا فَتُقُبِّلَ مِنْ اَحَدِهِمَا وَلَمْ يُتَقَبَّلْ مِنَ الْاٰخَرِۗ قَالَ لَاَقْتُلَنَّكَ ۗ قَالَ اِنَّمَا يَتَقَبَّلُ اللّٰهُ مِنَ الْمُتَّقِيْنَ – ٢٧

“And tell them the truth (Muhammad) about the story of the two sons of Adam, when both of them offered sacrifice, then (sacrifice) one of them (Habil) was accepted and from the other (Qabil) was not accepted. He (Qabil) said, “Really, I will definitely kill you!” He (Abel) said, “Verily Allah only accepts (charity) from the righteous.” (QS 5:27)

4. Provide Good Education and Environment

Your children are the way you will get your supplication. You better support them with good education and environment. It will help you to make it happen. Besides, become trust parents also important such as the importance of truth in Islam.

A good education will make your children capable to think precisely to know the difference between the right and the wrong thing. A good environment will help them to realize the education that they accept.

Those two are capable to make a pious child which is their supplication will be more granted by Allah. That is why our parenting method should start with a  good supplication to Allah as the ways of acquiring knowledge in Islam.

Make a Dua from the Quran surah Ali Imran verse 38 for parents is important.

هُنَالِكَ دَعَا زَكَرِيَّا رَبَّهٗ ۚ قَالَ رَبِّ هَبْ لِيْ مِنْ لَّدُنْكَ ذُرِّيَّةً طَيِّبَةً ۚ اِنَّكَ سَمِيْعُ الدُّعَاۤءِ – ٣٨

“It was there that Zachariah prayed to his Lord. He said, “O my Lord, grant me good descent from thy side, verily thou hast heard the prayer.” (QS 5: 38)

5. Presented A Role Model

Remember, that children are copy-paste what we are doing every day since they are born. That is why it is important to become a good role model for them. Not only teach them about Islamic rules but also do it daily. It more makes sense for them instead of just say it in a word.

It mentions in the Quran surah As Saff verse 3.

كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ اَنْ تَقُوْلُوْا مَا لَا تَفْعَلُوْنَ – ٣

“(It) is very hated in the sight of Allah if you say anything that you do not do.” (QS 61:3)
