Forgiving is a very glory deed. In the daily life, sometimes someone is abused, hit or anything by others, then indeed he can replay them, but he chooses to forgive them. He can control himself and his emotion. In the Al-Qur’an, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala praises those who can control their emotion, which reads :
وَالْكَاظِمِينَ الْغَيْظَ
“And who restrain anger.” (Q.S. Ali Imran : 134)
Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa sallam has affirmed that those who control their anger, they are strong people. Rasulullah saw said :
“A strong man is not a person who defeat many people by his power. A strong man is only a person who can control himself when he is angry.” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari number 6114)

Besides forgiving is a glory deed, it has many importance that can make us like to do it. Here they are :
If we are busy about someone’s deed to us, we will lose our focus to Allah SWT. Indeed, if we are patient and forgive them, then Allah SWT will love us. As it is mentioned in Al-Qur’an Surah Fushshilat : 34 – 35)
وَلَا تَسْتَوِي الْحَسَنَةُ وَلَا السَّيِّئَةُ ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ فَإِذَا الَّذِي بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ عَدَاوَةٌ كَأَنَّهُ وَلِيٌّ حَمِيمٌ. وَمَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا الَّذِينَ صَبَرُوا وَمَا يُلَقَّاهَا إِلَّا ذُو حَظٍّ عَظِيمٍ
“And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend. But none is granted it except those who are patient, and none is granted it except one having a great portion [of good].”
If we hate and do not forgive someone, we only collect hatred and it will break ourselves. It is not loved by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. Because of that, by forgiving other, we will get inner peace and more close to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.
Someone who forgive others faults will have a high position alongside Allah SWT and he is also noble in the eye of human. He will get protection from others and sometimes his enemies will become his friends. The Prophet Muhammad saw said :
“Shadaqah does not decrease treasure, and Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala does not add a servant because forgiving except nobility, and there is no person who humble (tawadhu’) because Allah Subahanhu Wa Ta’ala except he is caught up by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.” (Narrated by Muslim from Abu Hurairah radhiyallahu ‘anhu)

The Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu ‘Alaihi Wa sallam said,
“Have mercy on those who are in the earth, and That who is in Heaven will forgive you.” (Narrated by Tirmidzi)
Allah Subahnahu Wa Ta’ala also said :
وَإِنْ تَعْفُوا وَتَصْفَحُوا وَتَغْفِرُوا فَإِنَّ اللهَ غَفُورٌ رَحِيمٌ
“But if you pardon and overlook and forgive – then indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” (At-Taghabun : 14)
When someone forgives others, he shows his quality. He must be a faithful because he wants to be a servant who is loved by Allah SWT. So, he follows His command to forgive others.
Al-Imam Muslim r.a. narrated in a hadith of Abu Hurairah r.a. that there was a man said : “O Rasulullah, indeed I have a relative. I try to connect him but he is breaking up with me. I do goodness to them but they do badness. I am patient from them but they do dumbness to me.” Then Rasulullah saw said :
“If your words are right, then as if you spread hot dust to them. And you always get help from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’al over them as long as you are on that thing.” (Narrated by Muslim)
[AdSense-A]Forgiving others is not meant that you cannot learn from their faults. If you believe in someone and he betrays your trust, forgiving is not meant that you have to believe them again.
You can do it well without hate in your heart. But you should remember their character, so you will not get a problem with them again.
Forgiving others can also throw the vindictive of someone. Because this vindictive is not good in the world works. If we are revenge with someone, we will be difficult to communicate with him. So that, we are better to forgive him and automatically, we can ask help from him if we need him.
If you cannot forgive someone, it will affect our spiritual and psychologist. If it still continues, it will give bad effect to our body, too. Base on a research, someone who focus to personal revenge has increased blood pressure, heartbeat, muscle tension and uncontrolled feeling.
If you like to forgive others, then automatically you will get many friends. Not only that, our friends will believe in us, too. Because when we forgive someone’s fault, others will consider us as a friend who has a good personality and not revenge to others.
A psychologist said that inability to forgive others can bring anger and bitterness into every relationship and new experience. The pain and unpleasantness that are caused by doer will be projected to others. So that, if we can forgive other, it will give us strengthen to deal a new problem or experience in our daily lives.
Forgiving other can teach us sympathy. When we release anger, we can be more understand people who are in the same situation with us.
As a real believer, we do not only focus to the number of prayers. But we also have to focus to get Allah’s willing, such as forgiving others. That is why Allah SWT describes believers as
“Those who avoid sins and a big impure, and when they are angry, they forgive.” (Q.S. Ash-Shu’ara :37)
By forgiving others, we realize that those people do bad deeds and it is very painful. So, forgiving can be our reminder to not do the same thing.
