We all knew the concept of gravity. The common law of gravity is the force by earth or other planet that draws objects toward its center. It is a natural phenomenon and based on the theory is a force that keep earth and other planets to circle around in its orbit.
And it also a force that keep us still in the ground and not floating around. It is invisible but can be measured by the concept of relativity’s theory and Newton’s law of universal gravitation.
The force of gravity is proportionally related to their mass, which can be said as the greater the mass of a subject the greater the force of gravity will be. But do you know that long before the science found this theory, Islam has stated in Quran.
One the theory said that the planets were originally made or composed from mass of Sodium gas. And by some natural reaction it become what we called planets including earth itself. Read about law of equality in Islam.
So how the law of gravity in Islam? Do Islam support the law of gravity and how we as muslims should behave according to that? Here we would like to discuss about the law of gravity in Islam, in order to add our knowledge.
Human Science and Qur’an Said About Planet and Earth
Allah said in the following verses,
“And He placed on the earth firmly set mountains over its surface, and He blessed it and determined therein its (creatures) sustenance in four days without distinction – for (the information) of those who ask.
Then He directed Himself to the heaven while it was smoke and said it and to the earth, ‘Come (into being), willingly or by compulsion.’ They said, ‘We have come willingly.” (QS. Fussilat : 10-11)
According the verses above we could related that the science and Quran have the same opinion on how planets including earth are made of. And that Allah is the Creator there is no doubt about it in Islam. Read about law for women safar without mahram in Islam.
Science and knowledge is something that mankind especially muslims should pursued. Because in science and knowledge we will know the trues power of Allah SWT. Rasulullah said in the following hadith,
“Seeking knowledge is an obligation on every Muslim.” (Ahmad)
Which supported by the following verse as the following,
“So high (above all) is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, (O Muhammad), do not hasten with (recitation of) the Qur’an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, ‘My Lord, increase me in knowledge.” (QS. Taha : 114)
Law of Gravity in Islam
- Surah Ar-Ra’d
Islam always said and mentioned about gravity theory long before it was invented by human sciencetist. The Quran describe it in the following verse:
“It is Allah who erected the heavens without pillars that you (can) see, then He established Himself above the Throne and made subject the sun and the moon, each running (its course) for a specified term. He arranges (each) matter, He details the signs that you may, of the meeting with your Lord, be certain.” (QS. Ar-Ra’d : 2)
In the above verse there is a words of “without pillars” that may refer to gravitational force. Read about law of answering salam in social media.

- Surah Al-An’am
Allah SWT mentioned in the following verse that may related to the law of gravity in Islam:
“And with Him are the keys of the unseen, none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea.
Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grains is there within the darkness of the earth and no moist or dry (things) but that it is (written) in a clear record.” (QS. Al-An’am : 59)
In this verse it is clearly explained about the existence of gravity when the leaf and grains will falls into the ground and not floating around in the earth. Read about law of abandoning fasting intentionally.
- Surah Al-Hajj
Another verse tell us that by His power, Allah SWT let the planets and other objects in the sky from falling upon the earth as written in the verse below:
“Do you not see that Allah has subjected to you whatever is on the earth and the ships which run through the sea by His command?
And He restrains the sky from falling upon the earth, unless by His permission. Indeed Allah, to the people, is Kind and Merciful.” (QS. Al-Haj : 65)
- Surah Maryam
“And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree, it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates”. (QS. Maryam : 25)
This verse said that if we shake the palm tree then the dates will fall upon us to the ground. It also means that the law of gravity plays an important role in here. Because if there is no gravity the Quran verse won’t stated that way.
There are another verses related to gravitation. However as muslim what we have to understand first is, that Allah give us blessing and guardian by allowing the gravity force to exist in this earth. [AdSense-C]
Can you imagine what will happened if the gravity force is not existed in earth? everything will floating around, and human can not live in earth since it will be a mess.
Another thing that might happened are the air, atmosphere, rain, cloud, sea, or river, or animal will never existed. Read about law of killing baby lizards in Islam.
Allah SWT created world and its contain by a meaning and purpose. All creatures are created and all objects also created to submit and obey the commands of Allah SWT.
He do loves us and care of us that is why He created earth to the fullest so it fits to us human beings to live on. As mentioned in the following verse :
“Is He (not best) who made the earth a stable ground and placed within it rivers and made for it firmly set mountains and placed between the two seas a barrier? Is there a deity with Allah? (No), but must of them do not know.” (QS. An-Naml : 61)
It means that Allah SWT has given us so much blessing. The law of gravity in Islam is our self-reminder of His power and His virtues towards us as His creature. It is fitting that we always carry out His commands and increasing our faith according to the teachings of Islam which is the perfect and right religion from Allah SWT.
