Islam is a religion brought by the last Messenger of Allah, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). As a religion that came as an enlightenment for people who had lost in their way, there are numerous positive attitude in Islam as a guide of in everyday lives. All of those attitudes were taken from the Prophet (peace be upon him) while he lived.
Here are the positive attitude in Islam according to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him):
“O you who believe! keep your duty to Allah and speak straight, true words.” (33:70)
A Muslim only say the truth. He never tell lie through his words and delivering fake news to others. It’s an absolute quality that every Muslim should have.
“O you who believe, keep your duty to Allah, and be with the truthful people.” (9:119)
“Serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience.” (39:2)
Sincerity in worshiping Allah is everything. Every little action is judged by the intention and a good Muslim must have intention to please Allah SWT in everything. Don’t do any good deeds to receive praise from others. See also Importance of Sincerity in Islam
“Woe to those who pray but are unmindful of their prayers, who do good to be seen.” (107:4-6)
“You cannot attain to righteousness unless you spend (in charity) out of those things which you love.” (3:91)
Selflessness is one of the best quality, yet hard to follow, from our beloved Prophet Muhammad. He always put others first than himself, even until the last seconds of his breath. The last thing he concerned about was his ummah, not his family well being.
“They (the true believers) give food, out of love for Allah, to the poor, the orphan and the slave, saying: We feed you only for Allah’s pleasure – we desire from you neither reward nor thanks.” (76:8-9)
“The servants of the Beneficent (Allah) are those who walk on the earth in humility.” (25:63)
There is no higher power than Allah SWT in the whole universe, and the only way to acknowledge it is by being modest. Credit everything to Allah and arrogance will never come close to you. See also Benefits of Modesty in Islam
“Do not ascribe purity to yourselves. Allah knows best who is righteous.” (53:32)
[AdSense-B]
While Allah SWT forgive even our worst and biggest sin, a mere human should be forgiving as his Creator. More than that, Prophet Muhammad had shown the forgiving manner when he had defeated his enemy in Mecca and giving these following words to forgive them:
“No reproof be against you this day; Allah may forgive you, and He is the most Merciful of those who show mercy.” (12:92)
“Allah loves those who are patient.” (3:145)
Patience means not doing things in a rush. But patience also means keep going strong no matter what obstacle come in between. Allah SWT shows His affection to His servants in various way: through wealth, sickness, and unfortunate things. Allah SWT is teaching them to be patience since He is with those who are patient. See also Patience in Islam
“Give good news to the patient, who, when a misfortune befalls them, say: We are Allah’s and to Him do we return.” (2:155-156)
“Don’t go near the property of an orphan, except in a goodly way, till he attains maturity. And fulfill the promise (you make) . . .. Give full measure when you measure out, and weigh with a true balance.” (17:34-35)
It’s no secret that living rightly on Earth is pretty hard. But it’s a trial to have a better life in the Hereafter. We have to be honest in life, not only with our words but also by attitude regarding of properties that not belong to us.
“Do not swallow up your property among yourselves by false means, nor offer it as a bribe to the officials so that you may swallow up other people’s property unlawfully while you know.” (2:188)
[AdSense-C]
“He indeed is successful who purifies himself (in mind and body), and remembers the name of his Lord, then prays.” (87:14-15)
There are many ways to purify oneself. Take wudu, pray to Allah SWT and ask for His forgiveness. Constant repentance from sins is also the way to purify the soul, since we sometimes don’t know that we commit sins everyday. See also Types of Purification in Islam
“O you who believe! do not enter houses other than your own until you have asked permission and greeted the inmates . . . and if it is said to you, ‘Go back’, then go back.” (24:27-28)
Pay respect to others, especially your parents, elders, and other relatives. Respecting them can be done in many ways, such as talking to them tenderly, treating them with kindness, and mentioning their names in our dua.
“Allah commands you to uphold justice and to do good to others and to give to the relatives.” (16:90)
The purpose of human creation is to do good. Surely doing good and kindness is one of the many positive attitude in Islam. Positivity acts like a magnet that invites more positive things to come in. See also Benefits of Good Deeds in Islam
“Do good to others, surely Allah loves those who do good to others.” (2:195)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) told us to be moderate in everything. Moderate in eating, moderate in loving others, and moderate in the religion. Anything excessive is not good by any means in Islam.
“Religion is easy, but any one who exerts himself too much in religious devotions will get overcome by it; so you should just act rightly, and keep to the mean, and be of good cheer, and ask for Allah’s help morning, evening, and a part of the night.” (Bukhari.)
Holding onto the religion is hard, especially when we live in a modern era like today.
“Those to whom men said: people have gathered against you, so fear them; but this increased their faith, and they said: Allah is sufficient for us and He is an excellent Guardian.” (3:173)
So those are all the positive attitudes in Islam we must follow. May we grow to be a better and better Muslim by the day.
