Virtues of Taraweeh Prayer Congregational

Taraweeh prayer is a sunnah prayer which is done in Ramadhan. As we know, Ramadhan is a month with full of bless which is been waiting by all Muslim in the world because of its specialties.

By performing fasting Ramadhan and taraweeh prayer, we can get many advantages and virtues. Taraweeh prayer which is held every night at Ramadhan is having a different intercession whereas Allah SWT granted many rewards in it to all his ummat who is implementing it with heartfelt in persistently.

History of Taraweeh Prayer in Congregation

Laws of Taraweeh prayer in Ramadhan is muakkad sunnah means that it is very recommended as its value as the night prayer or other qiyamul lail such as Tahajjud prayer.

It is begin since Rasulullah SAW period whereas at night in Ramadhan, He came to the mosque and done a night prayer followed with all His relatives.

Sooner, there are more relatives came to follow Rasulullah SAW prayer at the mosque until there is a night when Rasulullah SAW was not coming to the mosque and the next day Prophet of Muhammad SAW informed that He was afraid that His ummat assuming that taraweeh prayer is a mandatory while in the vice verse taraweeh is categorized as sunnah prayer. It is supported by hadidh narrated by Bukhari and Muslim that Rasulullah SAW said, “Indeed, I saw what you did last night. I did not come to the mosque because I am afraid this prayer will become mandatory to all of you.’ Siti Aisyah said,” It happened in Ramadhan.” (HR. Bukhari and Muslim)

The virtues of Taraweeh Prayer Congregation

Taraweeh is allowed to do either in pilgrim or alone. Below are some virtues of taraweeh prayer:

1. Getting a whole night full rewards from night prayer

It has a whole night full reward as Imam when we are doing taraweeh at the mosque in congregation.

إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ إِذَا قَامَ مَعَ الإِمَامِ حَتَّى يَنْصَرِفَ حُسِبَ لَهُ بَقِيَّةُ لَيْلَتِهِ

“Honestly, when someone is praying together with an Imam until its finished, he will be counted to get reward at the rest of his night.” (HR. Ahmad)

As it is mentioned by Tirmidzi :

إِنَّهُ مَنْ قَامَ مَعَ الإِمَامِ حَتَّى يَنْصَرِفَ كُتِبَ لَهُ قِيَامُ لَيْلَةٍ

“Those who are praying with Imam until it is finished, he will record as if as doing prayer at the whole night.”  (HR. Tirmidzi)

2. Getting rewards as congregation prayer

Congregation prayer which is held in a mosque is having 27 level comparing with alone prayer.

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يُوسُفَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ

“Congregation prayer is more value comparing with alone prayer with 27 level.”  (HR. Bukhari)

3. Upgrading hospitality and ukhuwah islamiah

Here, by doing taraweeh prayer at the mosque, it is believed can strengthen the brotherhood and ukhuwah islamiah. As we know that hospitality is having many advantages as it is explained on hadidh:

لَيْسَ الْوَاصِلُ بِالْمُكَافِئِ ، وَلَكِنِ الْوَاصِلُ الَّذِى إِذَا قَطَعَتْ رَحِمُهُ وَصَلَهَا

“Someone who is continuing his hospitality shall not be rewarded with other goodness. However, he is the one who is trying to continuing his hospitality which is being postpone or disconnected by others.”  (HR. Bukhari)

4. Increasing the feeling of love to the mosque

One of the ways to increase our love to the mosque is by doing praying congregation at the mosque including taraweeh prayer. Taraweeh prayer in congregation will make us feel comfort and calm and it is our reason to visit the mosque more often.  Those who like to visit the mosque are belonging to the one which is protected at the end of the day.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي خُبَيْبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ سَبْعَةٌ يُظِلُّهُمْ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى فِي ظِلِّهِ يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ إِمَامٌ عَدْلٌ وَشَابٌّ نَشَأَ فِي عِبَادَةِ اللَّهِ وَرَجُلٌ قَلْبُهُ مُعَلَّقٌ فِي الْمَسَاجِدِ وَرَجُلَانِ تَحَابَّا فِي اللَّهِ اجْتَمَعَا عَلَيْهِ وَتَفَرَّقَا عَلَيْهِ وَرَجُلٌ دَعَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ ذَاتُ مَنْصِبٍ وَجَمَالٍ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أَخَافُ اللَّهَ وَرَجُلٌ تَصَدَّقَ بِصَدَقَةٍ فَأَخْفَاهَا حَتَّى لَا تَعْلَمَ شِمَالُهُ مَا تُنْفِقُ يَمِينُهُ وَرَجُلٌ ذَكَرَ اللَّهَ خَالِيًا فَفَاضَتْ عَيْنَاهُ

“There are seven (types of devout people) which will get shelter from Allah SWT and His protection (at the doomsday) whereas there is no one shelter except of His. They are fair leader, a young man which is busying himself with his worship to his Rabb, a man which is his heart is always to the mosque, two men which are loving because of Allah SWT whereas both of them are converged and separated by Allah SWT,

 

a man which is persuaded to do immoral things by a beautiful rich woman and said,’ I am afraid to Allah SWT,’ someone who is giving charity by hiding his action until his left hand is know nothing about his right hand’s doing for charity, and someone who is dzkir to Allah SWT by isolating himself until he is crying in his dzkir.” (HR. Bukhari)

5. Getting rewards by walking to the mosque

We are advisable to walk to the mosque rather than using vehicle unless the distance of the mosque is quite far from our home. It is because walking to the mosque will also have rewards as well as taraweeh prayer.

“Be informed to those who are ‘walk’ in the dark to the mosque with a light that he will gain at the doomsday.” (Shahih HR. Abu Daud and Tirmidzi)

“Those who are washing at his house then go to the mosque to do prayer which is being mandate by Allah SWT, each step of his move will remove one sin and the other move will raise his degree.”(HR. Muslim)

6. As a media learning

7. Enliven Ramadhan

Taraweeh prayer can enliven the atmosphere of Ramadhan because it is different from the others months. Here, most of people are both old and young will go to the mosque to do congregation prayer at the mosque and other positive activities afterward.

8. Healthy physical and spiritual

Taraweeh can make our body feel more healthy and excited during Ramadhan. It is because when we are doing prayer, we are alike of doing exercise and as a result our body is become health.
