Health is a privilege Allah SWT gives to humans, and once its lose will be very hard to regain it back. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had emphasized the importance of health:
Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet (peace be upon) said, “There are two blessings which many people lose: (They are) Health and free time for doing good.” – Bukhari
As for every illness, Islam promised recovery through a very Islamic methods: cupping. This was verified by the Prophet (peace be upon him) himself.
“There is a remedy for every disease and when the remedy is applied to the disease it is cured with the permission of Allah the Exalted.” – Muslim
For Muslims who are not so familiar with cupping methods, it bring many benefit for the health. Here are some of benefits of cupping in Islam:
- Cupping is Sunnah
During the journey of Isra’ Mi’raj, Allah SWT showed the Prophet (peace be upon him) many miracles, as written in the Quran.
“Glory to He Who took His servant for a journey by night from the most sacred mosque to the farthest mosque, whose precincts We blessed, in order that We might show him some of Our signs: for He is the One Who hears and sees [all things].” – Al-Isra (17:1)
Among many of the miracles Allah SWT ordered the Angels to give instruction to the Prophet to do cupping as a therapy.
“I did not pass by an Angel from the Angels on the Night Journey except that they all said to me; ‘Upon you is cupping (hijama), O Muhammad’.” – Ibn Majah

- Cupping is the Best Medicine
Quran has become the best remedy for any disease. Our Prophet (peace be upon him) also mentioned another medicine for almost every illness, that was cupping. By cupping, all the toxins inside our body are being released, alongside with illness inside it. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said,
“Cupping is the most helpful procedure for human beings to cure themselves.” – Bukhari

- Getting Close to Allah Through Cupping
Cupping ia a very Islamic methods of curing illness. It contains many spiritual and religious aspects in the practice. In Islam, cupping is called “Hijama”. Upon performing Hijama, the practitioner should have taken wudu and during the Hijama procedure, he/she should recite the Holy Quran. Hijama was done by following the Prophet’s way.

Another benefits of cupping in Islam is its ability to improve a person’s memory and increases the intellectual. It’s very useful especially for elder people who start to lose their memories.
Ibn Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, “Hijama cupping on an empty stomach is best. It increases the intellect and improves the memory. It improves the memory of the one memorizing….” – Ibn Majah

- Emotionally Relaxing
Cupping serves like magic for the body. Not only it beneficial for physical health, cupping also have a relaxation effects for emotion. It’s the best cure for stress if correctly performed.
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) mentions that the Messenger (peace be upon him) was cupped on his head when he was afflicted with magic and that it is from the best of cures for this if performed correctly. – Zad al-Ma’ad
- Treating the Most Important Part of the Body
Cupping the certain parts of the body such as the back of the neck could cure seventy two different illness and it has proven by a scientific research.
“Hijama cupping on the back of the neck treat seventy-two illnesses.” – Al-Tabarani

- Cleanse veins and arteries
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to da cupping to cleanse his blood veins. And it really works wonder as reported in a Hadith below:
As narrated by Anas, Prophet (peace be upon him) used to have hijama cupping done on the veins on the side of the neck and the upper back. – Tirmidhi
- Curing a Very Serious Disease
Performing hijama in certain dates makes is the best cure for every disease, as said by the Prophet (peace be upon him).
“Whoever performs Hijama cupping in the 17th, 19th and 21st day (of the Islamic Lunar month), then it is a cure for every disease.” – Ibn Majah

- Cupping Therapist is Special
Cupping therapist is a special occupation in Islam, he/she will have the power of curing just like honey does.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “If there is anything good in the medicines with which you treat yourselves, it is in the incision of the hijama therapist, or a drink of honey….” – Muslim
- Following the Prophet’s Doing
By doing cupping, we follow one of the thing the Prophet (peace be upon him) loved to do.
Narrated Abu Kabshah al-Ansari (RA):
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to have himself cupped on the top of his head and between his shoulders, and that he used to say: If anyone pours out any of his blood, he will not suffer if he applies no medical treatment for anything.

For Muslims who always been busy with work and everyday life, their muscles must stiff and painful at times. Here is the benefits of cupping in Islam lies. It can relieve the muscles pain effectively by removing stagnated blood from the discomforted area. It works by detoxifying the blood.
- Improving Immune System
Cupping strengthen the immune system if the body so that its resistance for illness and disease increases. As all the toxins are being sucked from cupping, the body is in a healthier state and ready to fight against illness.
So those are all among the benefits of cupping in Islam. To follow the sunnah from the Prophet (peace be upon him), cupping is not prohibited in Islam. It should be done in Islamic way, despite many of cupping clinic with modern methods.
