14 Effects of not Praying in Islam

Prayer or salah in Islam is very importance  worship which included a physical, mental and spiritual act. Prayer in Islam is one of the five pillars of faith and it is obligatory for every muslims both female or male. It is mentiond in the following verses :

“This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah. Who believe in the unseen, establish prayer, and spend out of what We have provided them. And who believen in what has been revealed to you,

 

(O Muhammad), and what was revealed before you, and of the Hereafter they are certain (in faith). Those are upon (right) guidance from their Lord, and it is those who are the successful. (QS. Al-Baqarah :2-5)

Prayer is divided into two types which are fard prayer or obligatory prayer and sunnah prayer. Both prayer is important according to Islam and muslim should perform it as a form of obedience to Allah and His Messenger. Also read : importance of wisdom in Islam

The Effects of not Praying in Islam

Abandoning prayer will give muslims a lot of negative effects, since prayer is mandatory and a pillar of faith. And as muslims we still trying to abandon prayer than we should face the fellow effects that may accure if we are not praying:

1. it is include as a disbelief act

Reported from Jabir Ibn Abdullah, the Prophet SAW said in the following hadith,

“Between faith and unbelief is abandoning the prayer.” (Narrated by Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Musnad)

And it also said in the following verse that the effects of not praying is equal to reject or deny Islam and its teachings.

“And when it is said to them, ‘Bow (in prayer),’ the do not bow. Woe, that Day, to the deniers. Then in what statement after the Qur’an will they believe?” (QS. Al-Mursalat : 48-50)

2. We will be keep away from heaven

From Jabir Ibn Abdullah, the Prophet SAW said,

“The key to Paradise is prayer, the key to prayer is wudu (ablution).” (Narrated by Musnad Ahmad)

Praying is an obligation of muslim and it is a way for us to worship Allah directly. Allah already give us an opportunity to getting close to Him when we pray. And indeed someone who want to obtain a way to the Heaven, he must perform prayer in earnest.

3. It will drag us into the hell fire

The effects of not praying in Islam is deadly which will lead a person into hell fire as the following verse,

“(And asking them), ‘What put you into Saqar?’ They will say, ‘We were not of those who prayed.” (QS. Al-Muddaththir : 42-43)

The word saqar means hell and it is one the deadliest hell among others,

“And what can make you know what is Saqar? It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing (unburned). Blackening the skins. Over it are nineteen (angels).”

The punishment for leaving prayer which is entering the hell of saqar is so great that we must remember and make this as a warning. Also read : ways on how to meditate in Islam

4. We will not be protected by Allah SWT

Indeed prayer is a way to guard ourselves from evil or satan, it kept us close to Allah. By reciting His name, worship Him, and always remember Him may Allah will give us a protection in our daily activities. Rasulullah SAW said in the following hadith:

“Whoever abandons the five daily salats will be deprived of the protection and security of Allahu ta’ala.” (Narrated by Ibn Majah)

It will be a great loss for muslim if Allah revoke His protection towards us since to Him only we can rely on everything. [AdSene-A]

5. Allah will not give us a reward

“Indeed, those who believe and do righteous deeds and establish prayer and give zakah will have their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.” (QS. Al-Baqarah : 277)

In islam every single deed both good or bad is matter and will be caunted in the afterlife. And prayer is special since Allah promised muslims to shower them with special blessing if they perform prayer and obedience to Him.

But otherwise Allah will not forgive muslim any reward if they neglected prayer. Also read : concept of citizenship in Islam

6. We will lost an opportunity to increase our degree

“If a person cleans himself thoroughly at home and goes one of the mosques in order to perform one of Allah’s obligatory acts, one of his steps erases his sins while the other raises his grade.” (Narrated by Muslim)

From the above hadith we learn how important prayer is, since Allah will increase our grade or degree if we perform it especially in mosque.

7. We will lost an opportunity to erase our sins

Still according to the previous hadith that every single step we made to perform prayer especially in mosque may erases our sins. And it was a tremendeous blessing from Allah SWT towards muslims and how generous He is that gave us a lot of opportunities to perform worship and find glory.

8. The wrath of Allah SWT awaits us

Reported from Hz. Ibn Abbas (r.a.), the Prophet SAW said that :

“When a person who abandons prayers reaches Allah, he will see that Allah will have inflicted His wrath on him.” (Narrated by Bazzar, Tabarani, Majma’uz Zawaid)

Allah is where we will back to, the wrath of Him is very severe, and moreover it will be painfull since He had created us, give us soul, mind, abundance of blessing and gift and yet we can not repay Him at least we should remembering Him and prayer is one of the way to always remember Him and His gift. 9. It cause our other deeds are not accepted

“And what prevents their expenditures from being accepted from them but that they have disbelieved in Allah and in His Messenger and that they come not to prayer except they are lazy and that they do not spend except while they are unwilling.” (QS. At-Tawbah : 54)

The dangerous effects of not praying in Islam is that it may prevent our deeds especially sadaqah is not accepted by Allah SWT. Of course it will be a great loss for muslims if our good deeds rejected only because we do not perform prayer which is obligatory worship in Islam.

10. Keep away from tranquility

Believe it or not that prayer is a way of meditation and it keep us tranquil or remain peace. By performing prayer it will help us ease our pain or sorrow.

“Recite, (O Muhammad), what has been revealed to you of the Book and establish prayer. Indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of Allah is greater. And Allah knows that which you do.” (QS. Al-Ankabut : 45)

Another effects of not praying in Islam is as following:

  • It will make us anxious. restless, and worried
  • It will estrange fortune and sustenance from us
  • It will estrange the help of Allah for our problems that may existed
  • We will be equal to someone who commit shirk
