5 Ways on How to Teach Child to Read Quran

Teaching how to read Quran to your child can be more challenging than you thought. Moreover, if you come from the outside of an Islamic country. Every verse in the Quran can be difficult to memorize for children from those countries. That can be as difficult as how to teach your children about fasting.

Even so, as Muslim parents, commonly they have so many ideas to teach their children to read the Quran properly. Most of them come with the styles that bring the most comfortable way to teach them.

This time, we have some of the ways on how to teach your child to read the Quran. Most of them are useful to apply in your daily activities. Let’s check them out below!

1. Make Your Child Love the Quran

First of all, most Muslim parents will teach their children to love the Quran first rather than playing video games or so. That can be one of the easiest ways to teach them so that they will get so excited every time you teach them. This method can be one of the tips on how to raise your kid in an Islamic way.

You can start by taking some recitation from the Quran and reading with your children together. Doing it regularly will represent that you love to read the Quran daily. That will make your children learn about your love for the Quran so that they will follow you. This also can be one of the tips for being a good wife in Islam.

Such as mentioned in the Quran surah Ali Imran verse 31 below.

قُلْ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّوْنَ اللّٰهَ فَاتَّبِعُوْنِيْ يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللّٰهُ وَيَغْفِرْ لَكُمْ ذُنُوْبَكُمْ ۗ وَاللّٰهُ غَفُوْرٌ رَّحِيْمٌ – ٣١

“Say (Muhammad), “If you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive your sins.” Allah is Most Forgiving, Most Merciful” (QS 3:31)

2. Make a Fun Learning

Most children are more excited about fun learning. That is why giving your children fun learning to read Quran can be one of the best ways to do. Nowadays, there are so many Qurans that are specifically brilliantly designed for children. This can help you on how to deal with a spoiled child in Islam.

You can take one of those Qurans designed for kids to teach your child. In the middle of your lesson them, you can add some stories from the Quran. That can make your child more interested in the Quran.

Such as mentioned in the Quran surah Yusuf verse 3 below.

نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ اَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَآ اَوْحَيْنَآ اِلَيْكَ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنَۖ وَاِنْ كُنْتَ مِنْ قَبْلِهٖ لَمِنَ الْغٰفِلِيْنَ – ٣

“We tell you (Muhammad) the best story by revealing this Qur’an to you, and verily you were before that of those who did not know.” (QS 12:3)

3. Do the Basic Practice

Listening, Reading, and Writing are the best ways to do the basic practice of learning the Quran. You can apply this method to teach your child so that they will capable to read the Quran properly.

By doing those methods regularly, children will easily understand how to do it verbally time after time. Doing some quizzes once a week can help them improve their capability to read the Quran. It has the same effects such as how to teach Salah to toddlers.

Moreover, Allah mentions on the Quran surah Yusuf verse 2 so that Muslims can learn it easily. More practice can help your child improve their skills to read the Quran.

اِنَّآ اَنْزَلْنٰهُ قُرْاٰنًا عَرَبِيًّا لَّعَلَّكُمْ تَعْقِلُوْنَ – ٢

“Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Qur’an, so that you may understand.” (QS 12:2)

4. Show the Meaning

Teaching your child the meaning of the Quran can be one of the best ways to make your child more excited to read the Quran by their selves. Show them the meaning of the Quran verse by verse will bring the curious from them.

That method is capable to bring the enjoyment of reading the Quran to your child. Such as mentioned in the Quran surah Al Qamar verse 17 below. It mentions that every verse in the Quran has a beautiful meaning.

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُّدَّكِرٍ – ١٧

“And indeed, We have made the Qur’an easy for warning, so is there anyone willing to take lessons?” (QS 54:17)

5. Encourage Your Child by Supplication

Making a supplication after you and your children finish learning to read Quran every time can be one of the best ways to encourage them. That will make your child more relaxed and believe that Allah will give them the way to read the Quran properly.

Teaching your child to be capable read the Quran alone can be more stressful for your child. That is why you need to encourage them by making a Dua whether by yourself or together with your child.

Moreover, by supplication that you make towards Allah may get some blessing and grants from Him. Instead of worrying about why your child facing a hard time reading the Quran, making Dua can help you and your child.

It mentions on the Quran surah At-Tahrim verse 6 below.

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا قُوْٓا اَنْفُسَكُمْ وَاَهْلِيْكُمْ نَارًا وَّقُوْدُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلٰۤىِٕكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَّا يَعْصُوْنَ اللّٰهَ مَآ اَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُوْنَ مَا يُؤْمَرُوْنَ – ٦

“O you who believe! Protect yourselves and your families from the hellfire whose fuel is man and stone; guardian of the angels who are harsh, and stern, who do not disobey Allah in what He commands them and always do what is commanded.” (QS 66:6)
