5 Ways to Teach Your Children to Memorize the Quran

Memorizing the Quran is more challenging than anything for any of us which comes from non-Arabic environments. For parents, to teach and make their children memorize the Quran needs more than hard work but also responsibility, determination, and patience.

By memorizing the Quran will help you be closer to Allah so that you can apply the verse in everyday life. You will see a different perspective to resolve a problem when you recite the verse daily.

That is why memorizing the Quran is important not only for your children but for yourself as the most rewarding deeds in Islam.

Teaching your children to memorize the Quran could not be as easy as you imagine. So, here we have some tips for you on how to teach your children to memorize the Quran.

1. Know Your Children Learning Type

Every child has a different learning style. If you can find the right type of your children learning it will help you the most. Your children may the type of visual learner or audio learner type. You need to get through your children to know them well as the importance of study in Islam you will share.

After you find it, you will only need to give them the best source they need. If your children are a visual learner type, try to teach them to memorize the Quran with the color and drawing book. Children love to color and picture, which makes them easier to memorize what inside it.

Remember, that the Quran made for them who believed so that they can take some lesson for it. By teaching your children to memorize the Quran make you do a good deed such as mentions in surah Sad verse 29.

كِتٰبٌ اَنْزَلْنٰهُ اِلَيْكَ مُبٰرَكٌ لِّيَدَّبَّرُوْٓا اٰيٰتِهٖ وَلِيَتَذَكَّرَ اُولُوا الْاَلْبَابِ – ٢٩

“The Book (Al-Qur’an) that We sent down to you is full of blessings so that they live the verses and so that people of common sense can get a lesson.” (QS 38:29)

2. Start With the Easiest Way

Children love the simplest way to learn something so don’t make it difficult when you try to teach your children to memorize the Quran. Try with the short surah from the Quran such as the surah Al Fatihah.

This surah will be recited every time we do five daily prayers so that will make your children easy to remember.

Follow another surah with the short verse so that your children will love them. Remember, that the Quran made in the easiest way to remembrance. So, keep your hard work and patience while teaching your children such as mentions in surah Al Qamar verse 17.

وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا الْقُرْاٰنَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِنْ مُّدَّكِرٍ – ١٧

“And we have certainly made the Quran easy for remembrance, so is there anyone who will remember it?” (QS 54:17)

3. Maximize The Technology

The technology around us come in their best way to help us become a fast learner. Help your children to memorize the verse from the Quran with technology makes is the best choice for you. You can download some Apps through your gadget about the Quranic verses.

Another method such as listening to some verses from the audio file makes your children easier to absorb the verse. If listening still feels hard for your children then make it with the video tutorial for children. They love video animation so that they will get easier to memorize some verses by it.

As mentions in the Quran AL Hijjr verse 9 that Allah was made the Quran keep it for human needs.

اِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَاِنَّا لَهٗ لَحٰفِظُوْنَ – ٩

“Indeed, we are the ones who revealed the Qur’an, and surely we (also) have preserved it.”(QS 15:9)

4. Keep On Track

It is important to keep your children on track while you teach them to memorize the Quran.  You will know where the line of your children’s achievement. Besides, you can correct them if they wrong easily.

Remember, don’t try to make it hard for your children while you keep on track them. it will ruin your teaching method because your kids will feel forced to do that.

Besides, there are some virtues of teaching in Islam, and Allah does not love them who forces another to make them learn something. Such as mentions in the Quran surah Ali Imran verse 159.

فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ لِنْتَ لَهُمْ ۚ وَلَوْ كُنْتَ فَظًّا غَلِيْظَ الْقَلْبِ لَانْفَضُّوْا مِنْ حَوْلِكَ ۖ

“Then thanks to the mercy of Allah you (Muhammad) are gentle to them. If you are being hard and hard-hearted, surely they will distance themselves from your surroundings.” (QS 3:159)

5. Make a Compliment

The best way to teach children to memorize the Quran is by giving them some compliments right when they achieve it. Children love rewards and gifts, as they growing older they will memorize the Quran easily and become a habit.

That’s how to become more intelligent in the Islam method works. Compliments make them more motivated and interested to memorize verse by verse from the Quran.

You only need to give your children simple compliments such as their favorite snacks or toys. Keep your promise to them and make it consistent so that your children will trust you as the importance of trust in Islam. Such as mentions in the Quran surah As Saff verses 2-3 below.

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا لِمَ تَقُوْلُوْنَ مَا لَا تَفْعَلُوْنَ – ٢

كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِنْدَ اللّٰهِ اَنْ تَقُوْلُوْا مَا لَا تَفْعَلُوْنَ – ٣

“O, believers! Why do you say something that you don’t do? (It) is hated in the sight of Allah if you say anything that you don’t do.” (QS 61: 2-3)
