5 Ways How To Teach Children To Love Reading The Quran

Islam taught us to share the magnificent functions of the Quran verses start from the children. Muslims believe that teaching the meaning of the Quran to children will make them have a meaningful life.

Not only live in this world but also the life in afterlife. Besides, there are so many surahs in the Quran that peace your soul effectively.

Teaching the children to love to read the Quran sometimes is hard to do. Most children love to play rather than reading. Not only the Quran but also reading common books. This is the challenging moments for parents to teach their children to love reading the Quran. They’re also so much fiqh perspective when raising children in an Islamic way.

Here we have some tips that helpful for you on how to teach children to love reading the Quran.

1. Make The Children To Listen

The best way you can teach your children loves reading the Quran is make them to listen. Most children are hard to teach in one sitting so that we need to make them listen to the Quran.

We can try to start from ourselves with read the Quran every night. Another way we can sound them the recitation from the Quran in a radio tape or video.

Do these things regularly can make the children alow themselves to love reading the Quran. Children are easier to follow what parents do, so read the Quran daily so that your children will follow you.

By doing these things make you not only help your children but also keep and protect your family from the fire of hell.

In the Quran Surah At Tahrim verse 6 mentions this.

يٰٓاَيُّهَا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا قُوْٓا اَنْفُسَكُمْ وَاَهْلِيْكُمْ نَارًا وَّقُوْدُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ عَلَيْهَا مَلٰۤىِٕكَةٌ غِلَاظٌ شِدَادٌ لَّا يَعْصُوْنَ اللّٰهَ مَآ اَمَرَهُمْ وَيَفْعَلُوْنَ مَا يُؤْمَرُوْنَ – ٦

“O, believers! Protect yourself and your family from the fires of hell whose fuel is human and stone; the guardians of rough, hard angels who are not ungodly to Allah for what He tells them to do and always do as they are commanded.” (QS 66:6)

2. Feeding a Beautiful Story

The Quran is full of a beautiful story from the prophet that we should follow and adjust their attitude to our daily life. That is why feeding your children with some good stories from the Quran will help you to make them love to read it.

Children love to listen to stories and they become curious about it. This makes stories from the Quran more sound attractive to them.

So, don’t give up to tell the story from the Quran. Remember about the verse on the Quran by Surah Yusuf (12:3) that mentions this.

نَحْنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيْكَ اَحْسَنَ الْقَصَصِ بِمَآ اَوْحَيْنَآ اِلَيْكَ هٰذَا الْقُرْاٰنَۖ وَاِنْ كُنْتَ مِنْ قَبْلِهٖ لَمِنَ الْغٰفِلِيْنَ – ٣

“We tell you (Muhammad) the best story by revealing this Qur’an to you, and indeed you were before that including people who do not know.”

3. Encourage WIth The Easiest Way

Children sometimes have less encouragement when they try something new. Reading the Quran is literary new for them. They may listen to the verse from their parents or by the sound of music.

Surrounding these environments will make children rise their curiosity. That is why we need to push them a little bit to make them proud to love reading the Quran. Stop being angry and worrying about your children because there is a prohibition of yelling to kids in Islam.

By encouraging your children it will make them try to accept Allah. This feeling not only can make you more peaceful but also a happy feeling in your children. In the Quran surah, Ar Ra’d verse 28 mentions this.

الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَتَطْمَىِٕنُّ قُلُوْبُهُمْ بِذِكْرِ اللّٰهِ ۗ اَلَا بِذِكْرِ اللّٰهِ تَطْمَىِٕنُّ الْقُلُوْبُ ۗ – ٢٨

“(ie) believers and their hearts are at peace by accepting Allah. Remember, only by remembering Allah the heart becomes at peace.” (QS 13:28)

4. Apply In Daily Life

Children love learning by doing something. That is why we need to be a good example of them. Make a simple habit by doing some verse from the Quran in daily life.

You can do a simple task such as do the five prayers and giving food for the poor. Children will start to ask why we have to pray or help each other.

Give your children the easiest answer by mentions the verse of the Quran that related to it. This will help them love reading the Quran because their curiosity starts rising. In the Quran Surah Hud verse 114 mentions for the example prayer.

وَاَقِمِ الصَّلٰوةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِّنَ الَّيْلِ ۗاِنَّ الْحَسَنٰتِ يُذْهِبْنَ السَّيِّاٰتِۗ ذٰلِكَ ذِكْرٰى لِلذَّاكِرِيْنَ – ١١٤

“And perform prayers at both ends of the day (evening and night) and at the beginning of the night. Good actions. That is remembering for those who always remember (Allah).”(QS 11:114)

5. Supplicate Toward Allah Only

Every time you feel hard when teaching your children to love reading the Quran, take more supplication towards Allah. Teaching children one way or another is always hard so that we need to be patient.

We should remember that our children will understand the Quran unwillingly without us teaching them. May Allah will give the way on how to deal with disobedient children in Islam just like you have the tips for teaching children Ramadhan fasting.

Remind yourself to be patient that the Quran Surah Al Baqarah verse 2 mentions there is no doubt about the Quran.

ذٰلِكَ الْكِتٰبُ لَا رَيْبَ ۛ فِيْهِ ۛ هُدًى لِّلْمُتَّقِيْنَۙ – ٢

“This book (Al-Qur’an) has no doubt about it; guidance for those who fear Allah”
