How to Teach Salah to Toddler in Easier Way?

Five-a-day prayer that is popular with Salah for Indonesian becomes one of the important things to do for Muslims. Most Muslims were taught since they were a kid as their first lesson learns about Islamic duty.

Teaching a five-day prayer for toddlers becomes the culture that hereditary exist in most Muslim cultures. That is because salah becomes one of the duties that should be done by Muslims daily.

Building a habit for a toddler so that they want to do salah voluntarily can be one of the most exciting moments for parents. A toddler may not understand yet about their duty towards Allah by doing salah. That is why parents need to teach them to step by step just like do the prayer to protect yourself from the bad luck in Islam.

Even if it looks easy to do, but teaching toddlers sometimes can be hard though. Moreover, if your toddler has a rebel type that makes them hard to teach. Now, don’t worry about it because this time we have some tips on how to teach salah to toddlers in an easier way.

1. Be A Good Example

As a parent, you need to be a good figure for your toddler, such as giving them some good deed examples. Make sure to take salah on time and take them with you. By doing salah together will make your toddler following your step to do salah significantly just like some benefits you get from learning the Quran.

In so many ways, giving a good example by doing salah becomes one of the best ways to teach your toddler about salah. Teach them to step by step in a simple theory and do the practice together.

As mention in the Quran surah Luqman verse 13 that parents should teach their kids to give their main duty towards Allah.

وَاِذْ قَالَ لُقْمٰنُ لِابْنِهٖ وَهُوَ يَعِظُهٗ يٰبُنَيَّ لَا تُشْرِكْ بِاللّٰهِ ۗاِنَّ الشِّرْكَ لَظُلْمٌ عَظِيْمٌ – ١٣

“And (remember) when Lukman said to his son, when he taught him, “O my son! Do not associate partners with Allah, indeed associating partners with (Allah) is a great injustice.” (QS 31:13)

2. Salah As The Main Duty Towards Allah

Parents need to tell their toddlers that salah becomes one of the main duties to seek so many grants from Allah. That is why toddlers should make salah their priority in their daily life without missed any single prayer time. Make some Duas keep away from sin like that is better than nothing at all.

By put Allah first in doing salah, toddlers to know the reasons why Allah is important to them. As parents teach their children, it becomes one of the ways to train their patients towards their toddlers.

Moreover, the command about teaching salah already mentions in the Quran surah Luqman verse 17 below.

يٰبُنَيَّ اَقِمِ الصَّلٰوةَ وَأْمُرْ بِالْمَعْرُوْفِ وَانْهَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَاصْبِرْ عَلٰى مَآ اَصَابَكَۗ اِنَّ ذٰلِكَ مِنْ عَزْمِ الْاُمُوْرِ – ١٧

“O my son! Pray and command (humans) to do what is right and prevent (them) from doing what is wrong and be patient with what befalls you, indeed that is an important matter. “ (QS 31:17)

3. Bed Story

Change your way to read some bed stories with practicing salah inside. Toddlers commonly love bed stories with some figure that they imagine to be them in the story. Parents can make some other ways that the main character is always doing salah no matter what.

It is easier to try the method instead of the formal method. At this stage, parents already make a good deed to their children to make worship Allah only. It mentions on the Quran surah Al Qasas verse 70 below.

وَهُوَ اللّٰهُ لَآ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ ۗ لَهُ الْحَمْدُ فِى الْاُوْلٰى وَالْاٰخِرَةِ ۖوَلَهُ الْحُكْمُ وَاِلَيْهِ تُرْجَعُوْنَ – ٧٠

“And He is Allah, there is a god (worthy of worship) besides Him, all praise is due to Him in this world and in the Hereafter, and to Him, all things and to Him are returned.” (QS 28:70)

4. Make a Simple Praise

Once your toddler is willing to do salah, praise them properly. Don’t overdo it so that they understand their main duty to worship Allah only. However, it is one of the parent’s responsibilities to teach their toddler about salah.

As a toddler, they can’t choose the type of parents so that they need to be taught properly about salah and Islam. It mentions on the Quran surah Al Qasas verse 68 below.

وَرَبُّكَ يَخْلُقُ مَا يَشَاۤءُ وَيَخْتَارُ ۗمَا كَانَ لَهُمُ الْخِيَرَةُ ۗسُبْحٰنَ اللّٰهِ وَتَعٰلٰى عَمَّا يُشْرِكُوْنَ – ٦٨

“And your Lord creates and chooses what He wills. For them (humans) there is no choice. Glory be to Allah and exalted is He from what they associate.” (QS 28:68)

5. Be Patient

Teaching toddlers sometimes can be hard if they don’t want to follow the command from parents. Moreover, to give the understanding about salah as the main duty to worship Allah. It can be thought such as teach them the way to teach your children to memorize the Quran.

The toddler may not understand yet about their responsibilities towards Allah so that they may denying some rules that you apply based on the Islamic way. Make some Duas read when you need something for your children can be one of teh best ways to do it.

Remember that your children become one of the ways to testify to your patient from Allah. You need to be more patient to face the things as mentions in the Quran surah Al Anfal verse 28 below.

وَاعْلَمُوْٓا اَنَّمَآ اَمْوَالُكُمْ وَاَوْلَادُكُمْ فِتْنَةٌ ۙوَّاَنَّ اللّٰهَ عِنْدَهٗٓ اَجْرٌ عَظِيْمٌ ࣖ – ٢٨

“And know that your wealth and your children are only a trial and that with Allah is a great reward. “ (QS 8:28)
