The 10th of Dzulhijjah is another great celebration of ummat Muslim because they were celebrated Eidul Adha. Idul Adha is usually also called as Idul Qurban, because on that day and three days after the day after (tasryik days), all Muslim was ordered to slaughter sacrifice animal for those who are affordable.
The word of Qurban was from the word “qarib” in Arabic means close. Doing Qurban as our worship is the best way to get closer to Allah SWT likewise praying. As Allah SWT commandment, ”Therefore straightens your worship because of your Lord and then sacrifice.” (QS. Al-Kautsar:2)
It happened on the Prophet of Ibrahim AS era whereas the Prophet of Ibrahim AS was had a continuous same dreaming to sacrifice His one and only son named Ismail AS because of Allah SWT.
Dispute of unwilling of Prophet Ibrahim AS inside His heart, the Prophet of Ibrahim AS told to Ismail AS about Allah SWT commandment and without argumentation the Prophet of Ismail was agreed.
When the slaughter day came, which is the 10th day of Dzulhijjah, there was miracle whereas the Prophet of Ibrahim AS slaughtering Ismail AS; Ismail AS was replacing by a fat healthy sheep. This is the reason of Muslim ummat was celebrated Idul Adha every 10th Dzulhijjah. Ummat Muslim can sacrifice a sheep, cow, buffalo or camel as of Allah SWT commandment.
Below are the virtues of slaughtering of animals in Islam:
By doing slaughtering of an animal, it is believed that all of our sins in the past will be forgiven by Allah SWT. Rasulullah SAW said to Fatimah which is His daughter,”
“Dear Fatimah, please stood up and see your slaughtered animal. Indeed, your sins will be forgiven at the first of blood drop as if as all your sins in the past. Please be read:” Indeed, all my worships, my slaughter, my life and death are because of Allah SWT, Rabb of the universe.” (HR. Abu Daud and At-Tirmidzi)
Rasulullah SAW said,” There is none lovable deed by Allah SWT from the children of Adam which is when the day of Idul Adha comes and slaughter the animal as a kind of sacrifice.” (HR. Tirmidzi and Hakim)
Allah SWT commandment, “Those camel’s fleshes and its bloods will not get blesses from Allah SWT, however, your God-fearing is the only one will get blessed from Him.” (QS. Al-Hajj:37)
Those who are slaughtering an animal in Idul Qurban will get reward as if as many animal fur which is slaughtered. Rasulullah SAW said, “Every fur from the slaughtering of an animal you will get a reward as if as one kindness.” (HR. Ahmad and Ibnu Majah)
It is clearly mentioned that every fur in the animal which is slaughtered is a symbol from one kindness, so all of the fur of the animal is parable as if as rewards that we will achieve from Allah SWT. [AdSense-B]
Slaughtering can be our means to get closer to Allah SWT by increasing our God-fearing to Him.
“Those camel’s fleshes and its bloods will not get blesses from Allah SWT, however, your God-fearing is the only one will get blessed from Him.” (QS. Al-Hajj:37)
Slaughtering is a kind of Muslim that following the unity of god from the Prophet of Ibrahim AS which is stated on Al-Qur’an, “
“And to all ummat, We’ve been informed the shari’a of slaughtering (animal), so they mentioned Allah SWT to the cattle which had been given from Allah SWT to them, then your God is All Mighty and the One, for Him you are endeavor only. Please be informed the good news to those who is obedient (to Allah SWT).” (QS. Al-Hajj:34)
[AdSense-A]
Slaughter was not aimed to those upper middle class; it also applies to those who are affordable which is recommended. Abu Hurairah mentioned that Rasulullah SAW said,
“Those who are putting himself in the condition of relieved and he is not slaughtered, he shall not get closer to our prayer place.” (HR. Ahmad and Ibnu Majah).
When the doomsday come; the cattle which was slaughtered will not died in useless, it will helps us at the end of the day to inform more about our charities. As Rasulullah SAW said,
“There is none charity being lovable most by Allah SWT done by the children of Adam on the Idul Qurban festive other than the blood flow, indeed, when the doomsday come, it will come with all its antlers, its nails and also its furs. Moreover, the blood will directly unto to Allah Azza Wa Jalla before it fall down to the ground, so please increase of your soul to Him.” (HR. Ibnu Majah No. 3117)
Slaughtering is not been doing by Muslim only, it also applies to non Muslim followers. The difference is located in the purposes and intention whereas for non Muslim it refers to veneration while from the Muslim’s sight it is kind of our God-fearing to Allah SWT.
“ It is stated, Indeed, my worships, my slaughtered animal, my life and the death are because of Allah SWT only, Rabb of the universe and the one and only; therefore, it is been ordered to me and I am the first creature to endeavor (to Allah SWT). “ (QS. Al-An’am:162-163)
As a kind of obedient and loving to Allah SWT, the Prophet of Ibrahim AS is willing to sacrifice his only son, Ismail AS because of his God-fearing to Allah SWT. It is a good sample about the patience test which is recommended to be followed by all Muslim so that we can get closer to Allah SWT aside of our lust.
The worship of slaughtered also has impact to the surrounding, which is those who are entitled to receive the fleshes from the slaughtered animal. It can make those who are entitled happy as spiritual and also tighten solidarities among Muslim. Ali bin Abu THolib said,”
Rasulullah SAW was ordered me to take care of his cattle slaughtered, distribute of its fleshes, its skins and also its clothes to the poor, and I am not allowed to give something from the slaughtered animal (as a wages) to its slaughter.”
Slaughtering of cattle animal is also a kind of our gratitude and obedient to Allah SWT for all his amusement.
“And to each Muslim We have been shari’a about slaughter (sacrifice), so they mentioned the name of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala to the slaughtered animal which had been given to them your God is All Mighty the one only, because of that be faithful to Him. Please be informed this good news to all devout people (obedient to Allah SWT).” (Al-Hajj:34)
Giving fleshes to the poor can increase our sense of caring and loving to others while at the same time it is also increasing our gratitude to Allah SWT aside of healthiness, faith and Godly also our fortune.
“And He has giving you (all your needs) from all your wishes to him. And when you count of His amusement, it is infinity. Indeed, human is so much dholim and disavow (about amusement of Allah SWT).” (QS. Ibrahim:34)
Some of theologians mentioned that slaughter is a kind of primary worship comparing with charity in the same amount and give freedom to the slave. It caused of slaughtering is been doing in the special day which is the Idul Adha festive.
