13 Importance of Praying When Sujood in Islam

As we know, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala commands His servants to do prayers where this command is revealed through the Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam.

There are some movements in prayers that has been assigned by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, such as sujood. There is a hadith which means :

“Nafi’ from Ibn Umar narrated :

Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam read for me one surat, it is surah As Sajdah, the Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam do sujood and we also do sujood together with him.” (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim)

By doing sujood, human can get a predicate,  Ibadurrahman or His servant, and he will get assurance to enter the Heaven. It is as the word of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala in Qur’an Surah Al-Furqan verse 63 – 63, which reads :

“And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace, and those who spend [part of] the night to their Lord prostrating and standing [in prayer].”

People who have knowledge and base their knowledge with faith will always do sujood to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

Knowledge delivers someone to the faith and remember how large is knowledge of Allah SubahanhuWa Ta’ala. Because of that, every Moslem should always do sujood to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

But in fact, many people do not want to do sujood to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala because their arrogance to submit to the commands of Allah SWT. This condition can make them far away from Shari’a. Indeed, they really need Him.

  1. Be closer to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala

By doing sujood when you are praying, you will be closer to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. As narration from Abu Hurairah Radhiyallahu anhu that Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said :

“The closest servant with his Lord is when he is doing sujood, then multiply dua.” (Narrated Muslim, number 482)

  1. Your degree will be higher

By doing prayers, both obligatory prayers or sunnah prayers, you will do many sujood. And Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala promises that He will make your degree higher than before. As the hadith of Muslim below :

“You should multiply sujood (multiply prayers) to Allah. Because you do not multiply sujood because of Allah, but Allah will heighten your degree and erase your sin’. “The Ma’ and said, “I have met Abu Darda’ and asked the same thing. Then Abu Darda’ answered as that was answered by Tsauban to me.” (Narrated Muslim number 488)

  1. As a perfect self servitude to Allah SWT

The next importance of paying when sujood is a complete humble and ‘ubudiyah (a perfect self servitude) to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.

At this time, a servant puts and stick your noblest part of body (your face) to the ground level that is always trampled and humiliated in order to worship and put down to Allah Azza wa Jalla.

  1. Get love of Allah SWT

If we do prayers and sujood, it is meant that we close ourselves to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. Then He will love us as His word in the hadith below

“If My servants close to Me with deeds of prayers until I love him. If I love him, then the hearing that he uses to hear, the eyesight that he uses to see, the hand that he uses to touch, and the foot that he uses to walk I will give tawfik.” (Narrated Al Bukhari number 6502)

  1. One of best time to do dua

In a hadith from ‘Abdillah bin ‘Abbas Radhiyallahu anhu, Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said,

“As for (at the time of) sujood then concentrate to do dua to Him, because for it to be granted your dua (at that time).”

Because of that, Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam often did dua when he was sujood in his prayers, as the explanation of Imam Ibnul Wayyim rahimahullah and Imam Ibn Hajar rahimahullah.

  1. It is more important than other movements in prayer

Imam an-Nawawi rahimahullah said,

“In this hadith there is a dalil that support an opinion which said that sujood is more important than standing (when praying) and other pillars of prayer.”

  1. The importance is in all sujood of prayer

The importance of praying when sujood is not only applied in the last of sujood as some of Moslem guess and practice all this time, but it is applied for all sujood in prayer.

  1. Sujood can decrease anxious and stress

The movement of sujood is a perfect physiological process, so the brain can be still cared and it also increases neurogenesis, plasticity and others. So it can decrease anxious too much, stress and fear.

  1. Increase calmness

If someone do sujood regularly as sunnah of Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam, he will get calmness. This calmness will make us to be more grateful upon delights and blessings from Allah Subahannu Wa Ta’ala. So, it can help us to avoid arrogance.

  1. Increase the side of psychologist

From the side of psychologist, the movement of sujod makes us self-esteem in front of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. It can also lose arrogance, riya and other bad behaviors. So that, we can be people who are better than before. [AdSense-C]

  1. Increase intelligence

Doing sujood regularly will make your blood vessel in the brain better to get oxygen. When sujood, the position of heart is above our head, so blood through smoothly to the brain and brain cells work better.

  1. Breathe better

When we breathe normally, a third of air will be saved in lungs, but when we do sujood, then abnormal fetra will more push the area of diaphragm. It causes that diaphragm can get air out, so we can breathe better and it can also make healthy our lungs.

  1. Ease childbirth

Sujood is a very recommended movement for pregnant women. Because it can hold on the position of fetus well in the womb.

If the position of fetus transverse or breech, then the movement of sujood can very help to bring back the position of fetus in the right place. In the medical world, sujood is known as knee chest position.
