Love is general concept all over the world. It’s one of the most important thing to keep the world going until today. When there’s no love, there is no life. We basically do everything out of love. Name it worshiping Allah, sending blessing to the Prophet, make supplication for our parents and even marriage all is done out of love.
Then what is the concept of love in Islam? It can be divided into three major things: love to Allah, love to the Prophet, and love to Allah’s creations.
Love to Allah SWT
“…for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.” – (13:28)
- Make Dua to Allah SWT
We can love Allah by showing how we need Him and His guidance for living.
”And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.”(2:186)

- Stay Away from What He Dislikes
Never disappoint Allah SWT by staying away from anything He considered as poisononous.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“A good friend and a bad friend are like a perfume-seller and a blacksmith: The perfume-seller might give you some perfume as a gift, or you might buy some from him, or at least you might smell its fragrance. As for the blacksmith, he might singe your clothes, and at the very least you will breathe in the fumes of the furnace.” – Bukhari
- Know Allah SWT More
As we know, Allah has 99 beautiful names. Let’s know Allah better through those names. From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (pace be upon him) said,
“If Allah loves a person, He calls Gabriel saying, ‘Allah loves so and-so; O Gabriel! Love him.’ Gabriel would love him and make an announcement amongst the inhabitants of the Heaven. ‘Allah loves so-and-so, therefore you should love him also,’ and so all the inhabitants of the Heaven would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth.” – Bukhari

- Be in Remembrance of Allah
How could we love Allah better than remembering Him all the time through Dhikr? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“Whenever some people gather in one of Allah’s houses (mosques) to recite the book of Allah and study it among themselves – then calmness (tranquility) descends upon them, the angels surround them, mercy covers them, and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him.” – Muslim

- Obeying Allah’s Command
We can always love Allah SWT by obeying what He told us to do, such as following the Prophet.
“Say, (O Muhammad, to mankind): If ye love Allah, follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” (3:31)

- Reciting the Quran
Reading, memorizing, and implying what’s written in the Quran is one of the best way to love Allah SWT. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“That you worship Allah as if you see Him, for if you don’t see Him then truly He sees you.” – Bukhari & Muslim

Love to the Prophet
Loving the Prophet is a must in Islam, since the Messenger of Allah is our role model in life. We can love the Prophet through the following ways below:
- Following His Steps
For his whole life, the Prophet has given us the example for living. To show that we love and believe in the Prophet, we should prove it by following his steps and doing all the Sunnah he did. Imitate his manner, his way of thinking, how he worshiped Allah diligently, and how he deals over matters.

- Knowing His Life and Everything About Him
Not only we should know Allah through many of His beautiful names, but it’s also important to learn about the history of our Prophet (peace be upon him). As he lived an incredible life, there are many we can take from there: his love, dedication, mercy, exalted manners, and speech are worth to imitate.
- Studying the Quran
As we know, Quran was conveyed to the Prophet from long ago. Every Muslim must study and apply what’s written inside those, to make us the best Muslim ever. Recite Quran everyday, along with the meaning in your language.

- Sending Salutations for Him
After Salah or whenever we remember, it’s better for us to say “Allahumma sallee ‘ala Muhammad” in any variations there are. It draws us closer to him, especially in the Day of Judgement.
- Loving What and Whom He Loved
When we love someone, we must love what he loves and whom he loved. It’s the only way we can living up his legacy.

- Remembering Him
Keep in mind that we want to meet the Prophet in the Day of Judgement and let it be our ruler in life.
- Encourage Others to Love Him
Tell to many people who the Prophet was, why you love him, and why others should love him too.

Love to Allah’s Creation
The last concept of love in Islam is loving His creation.
- Love to the Angels. Angels are among Allah’s best creation ever. They have the most noble task, to connect the Prophet to Allah and eventually connect every Muslims to Allah.
- Love to Humans. Loving each other as humans is also a concept in Islam. Humans are our families, friends, and partner in life.
- Love to Animals. Animals should be treated as good as we treat human.
- Love to the Nature. Loving the nature means do our best to keep it from damage, since we can’t live without it.
So those are the concept of love in Islam. Indeed, we need love in every aspects of life.
