Every human who wants to go to the heaven must be close to Allah. Because, the closer a servant with Allah SWT, it will create stronger faith and more obedient worship. By knowing Allah, keeping His commands, and away from His prohibitions, we can become closer to Allah. In addition, Allah will give all things that we want if we are close to Him.
“And when ask you My servants about Me, then indeed I am near. I respond (to the) invocation (of) the supplicant when he calls Me. So let them respond to Me and let them believe in Me, so that they may (be) led aright.” (Al-Baqarah 2:186)
Here is presented some ways how to be closer to Allah.
1. Feel grateful to Allah
People who are always grateful, then his life will be calmer and away from anxiety. For those who can be grateful, then he has stepped closer to Allah SWT and get additional pleasure. This is because he realizes that the favor is bestowed by Allah.
And when proclaimed your Lord, “If you are thankful, surely I will increase you; but if you are ungrateful indeed, My punishment (is) surely severe.” (Ibrahim 14:7)

2. Good prejudice to Allah
When we are faced with a problem, the thing to do is thinking a good prejudice to Him. Allah never gives a problem that can’t be solved by His servant. In addition, a bad prejudice can also produce sin.
“Is prescribed upon you [the] fighting while it (is) hateful to you. But perhaps [that] you dislike a thing and it (is) good for you; and perhaps [that] you love a thing and it (is) bad for you. And Allah knows while you (do) not know.” (Al-Baqarah 2:216)
3. Always be patient
Every human will get the trials or problems from Allah SWT in the life. However, only human beings who are patient in trying to complete the trials will be glorified.
“Except those who (are) patient and do the good deeds, those for them (will be) forgiveness and a reward great.” (Hud 11:11)

4. Tawakkal to Allah
Tawakkal to Allah must be done when we have done everything according to the ability to possess. Allah is the only one who understands what is best for His servant.
“And for Allah (is the) unseen (of) the heavens and the earth, and to Him will be returned the matter, all (of) it, so worship Him, and put your trust upon Him. And your Lord is not unaware of what you do.” (Hud 11:123)
5. Always say istigfar when making mistakes
This is the easiest thing to do but not everyone can practice it. Indeed, acknowledge mistakes and hasten to repent is one way to go through to get closer to Allah SWT.

6. Do Daily and Sunnah prayer
As we know, prayer is a mandatory worship. In addition, prayer is a pillar of religion. So, to draw closer to God then the first step he has to do is to perform the prayer on time. Besides being loved by Allah SWT, he will also be guarded by the angels and later on, he will go through the Shiratal Mustaqim bridge like lightning and be saved from the punishment of hellfire.
7. Read Qur’an
Qur’an is a guide to human life that gives many benefits to those who read it. Even one letter is rewarded with 1 goodness that folded into 10 goodness. Moreover every time we increase our reading, then the reward from Allah also increases. It will increase noble and great when read in prayer.

8. Give sadaqah
it is mentioned that every property that we give sadaqah in the way of Allah, will be repeatedly multiplied. This practice is one of the most beloved practices of Allah SWT. So, of course, the perpetrators also get a noble position in the eyes of Allah SWT.
“Those who spend their wealth by night and day secretly and openly, then for them (is) their reward with their Lord, and no fear on them and not they will grieve.” (Al-Baqarah 2:274)
9. Perform Fasting
One of the obligations of every Muslim in the world is to perform fasting. In addition to mandatory fasting in the month of Ramadhan, there are many Sunnah fasting that are recommended to do. By fasting either mandatory or Sunnah fasting, then not only can draw closer to Allah SWT but many other virtues can be obtained.
“O you who believe[d]! Is prescribed for you [the] fasting as was prescribed to those from before you, so that you may (become) righteous.” (Al-Baqarah 2 :183)

10. Participate in tausyiah or recitation regularly
By hearing tausyiah or recitation, it will certainly increase the iman and faith because it is always reminded to always be close to Allah SWT. It should be noted, because iman can go down or up, it must be kept faith in a stable state by following tausyiah, recitation etc.
11. Be friends with sholeh people
As already explained above that the level of our faith can go down or up, for it needs to be kept so that our level of faith remains high. Being in a conducive environment where the people are close to Allah SWT, will also bring us closer to Him.

12. Perform Zikr
Zikr is a practice of oral worship through thayyibah sentences, by always praising and mentioning the name of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala. We can perform zikr anywhere and anytime, when we stand, sit or lie down.
“Glorify [to] Him the seven heavens and the earth and whatever (is) in them. And (there is) not any thing except glorifies His Praise, but not you understand their glorification. Indeed, He is Ever-Forbearing, Oft-Forgiving.” (Al-Isra 17:44)

13. Carry Allah’s command and keep away from Allah’s prohibitions
Piety means carrying out the whole command of Allah and avoiding all his prohibitions. If we love God and expect His mercy, we must be able to keep away from all the prohibitions that can keep us from His good pleasure.
“O you who believe! Fear Allah and seek towards Him the means and strive hard in His way, so that you may succeed.” (Al-Mai’dah 5:35)

14. Practice righteous to others
Of course we need to do good things for other people. It is clear that Allah does not want us to become a man who has been zikr for a long time without associating with other human beings. We can approach Allah by practicing good deeds to fellow human beings.
“And not your wealth and not your children [that] will bring you close to Us (in) position, but whoever believes and does righteousness, then those, for them (will be) reward two-fold for what they did, and they (will be) in the high dwellings secure.” (Saba’ 34:37)
15. Read the shahadah
Read shahadah is not only pronounced or spoken in verbal, but also be up to the heart, because the intention consists of three, namely believe with the heart, spoken with oral, and carried out with the body.
“I testify that there is no God but Allah and I testify that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah”.

16. Zakat
Zakat is a medium to cleanse the treasure and self from something that can obstruct our way towards His pleasure.
“Take from their wealth a charity, purifying them and cause them increase by it, and bless [upon] them. Indeed, your blessings (are a) reassurance for them. And Allah (is) All-Hearer, All-Knower.” (At-Taubah 9:103)
17. Become hajj
Hajj is the perfect of the five pillars of faith, and pilgrimage is very obligatory for people who are able to run. It is divided into three, which is capable of financing, capable of physical and able to travel, or the road through which to perform the pilgrimage is safe, no obstacles whatsoever.
“Indeed, (the) First House set up for the mankind (is) the one which (is) at Bakkah, blessed and a guidance for the worlds.” (Al-Imran 3:96)

18. Mujahidun (Jihad)
What is meant by jihad in the general is to fight for the upholding of the religion of Allah in the earth. al-jihad means ‘to take all the power and effort to reach the path of truth’. In terms of language, jihad means ‘difficulty’, ‘difficulty’ and ‘torture’. In terminology, jihad means ‘exerting all ability in the way of God to exalt His words, defend His religion, fight against His enemies, and prevent injustice, evil and transgression.’
“And fight (against) them until not (there) is oppression, and becomes the religion for Allah Then if they cease then (let there be) no hostility except against the oppressors.” (Al-Baqarah 2:193)
19. Follow the actions of the Prophet
The Prophet and the Apostle are the chosen people of Allah SWT who has been given the task of conveying the message of the propaganda of Islamiah to his people. We need to follow their actions to draw closer to Allah.
“Certainly, is for you in (the) Messenger (of) Allah an excellent example for (one) who has hope (in) Allah and the Day the Last, and remembers Allah much.” (Al-Ahzab 33:21)

20. Love friends and other Muslims
We must love our friends and other Muslims as we love Allah. That way, we have appreciated the creation of Allah and become closer to Him.
21. Be a trusted person
Trust means al wafa ‘(fulfill) and wadi’ah (submitted). By definition it means fulfilling what is given in the form of any obligation that has been given by someone, whether related to Allah (hablumminallah) or to humans (habluminannas).
“The imperfect faith of a person who does not convey the trust is not the perfect religion of a person who does not fulfill the promise.” (H.R. Ahmad)

22. Not making sins
We must not make sins because Allah doesn’t like it. If we don’t make sins, Allah will give us rewards and we will become closer to Allah.
23. Increase our knowledge about Islam
As Muslim, we must understand Islam thouroughly. We can do it by adding Islamic knowledge in various ways, including: reading books, reading on the internet (about Islamic knowledge, Islamic articles, tausyiah etc.), looking at Islamic videos that can improve our faith.

24. Doing sacrifice during Eid al-Adha
Eid al-Adha is a day where Allah will give more rewards to those who is sincere while doing sacrifice. We can do it in various ways such as sacrifice cow and goat.
25. Keep away from Satan
In order to get closer to Allah, we need to believe in Him. In addition, we must keep away from lust which comes from Satan.
