13 Importance of Wisdom in Islam

Human is created a skill exceed other creatures. Human has mind that is not had by animals and plants. So that, it is not surprise if human must be wise in this world. We as Moslem should follow the behavior of the Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam who is always wise to face all of his business.

We should realize that we are created to serve Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, so we will be glory in front of Him. By serving to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, we should do all of His commands and avoid His prohibitions. For that matter, a Moslem must be wise to determine right things and wrong things according to Allah Subahanhu Wa Ta’ala.

Wisdom is a skill to use your intellect if you face difficultness. Wisdom can be also meant as a solution of problem bases on the truth, not only follow passions. AS we know, Islam is a wise religion. So that, Islam teaches us wisdom and Allah commands His servants to have wisdom.

In Qur’an, wise or wisdom is called ‘al-khikmah”, then someone who acts wisely is called “hakim”. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala is also called as Al-Hakim (one of Asmaul Husna). Because of that, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala wants His believers to have wisdom, too, because there are many importance of wisdom.

Importance of Wisdom in Islam

  1. As a command from Allah SWT

All of Prophets are sent by Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala to teach His believers about wisdom. As the word of Him in Qur’an, which reads :

كَمَا اَرْسَلْنَا فِيْكُمْ رَسُوْلًا مِنْكُمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْكُمْ ايتِنَا وَيُزَكِّيْكُمْ وَيُعَلِّمُكُمُ الْكِتبَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَيُعَلِّمُكُمْ مَالَمْ تَكُوْنُوْا تَعْلَمُوْنَ ]البقرة:151[

“Just as We have sent among you a messenger from yourselves reciting to you Our verses and purifying you and teaching you the Book and wisdom and teaching you that which you did not know.” (Q.S. Al-Baqarah : 151)

  1. Do something carefully

By having wisdom in our selves, we will think first carefully if we want to do something. So, we will not fall into faults. Moslem do not do something in haste because haste is a Satan’s action. And Satan always persuades human to do bad deeds. As the word of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, “Indeed Satan, to man, is a manifest enemy.” (Q.S. Yusuf : 5)

  1. Everyone must be a hakim

All of us are commanded that we should invite our family, our siblings, our companions and others to the way of Islam wisely. As the word of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala which reads :

اُدْعُ اِلَى سَبِيْلِ رَبِّكَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ وَالمَوْعِظَةِ الحَسَنَةِ وَجَادِلْهُمْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ اَحْسَنُ

“Invite to the way of Allah’s religion in a thoughtful, a good advice and a better dialog.”

This verse can be understood that everyone must be wise like a hakim. A hakim must decide problems wisely. So, if there is family problem, we have to decide wisely like a hakim. [AdSense-B]

  1. Avoid destruction

As His believers, we have follow His command to be wise. Because if we do not wisdom in our selves, our actions will end in failure, difficultness and destruction. Without wisdom, we will not solve problem carefully, but we are hurry to decide something. So, we do not think effects from our decision.

  1. Get unlimited kindness

As the word of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, which reads :

“He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good. And none will remember except those of understanding.” (Q.S. Al-Baqarah : 269)

  1. Avoid negative thinking

Sometimes, people decide their decision based on their prejudice. It is clear that it is not based on wisdom. So that, our religion also forbid us to prejudice like this, moreover negative thinking. By having wisdom, we will be more righteous for everything.

  1. Avoid us from uncertain things

People who do not have wisdom in their selves, will be easy to decide or summarize. When they were deciding, they have not know the reason clearly and they are not supported by valid data. So, someday he will repent his decision that ruins his life.

  1. Be given a guide by Allah SWT

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala will give a guide for those who have wisdom in the solving of their problems, as His word in Qur’an, which reads :

“O you who believed, if you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you. And Allah is the possessor of great bounty.” (Q.S. Al-Anfal : 29)

  1. Create discipline in yourself

Someone who have wisdom will follow every rules in Islam. In other word, he will be a discipline man. He will not break rules because he has known the consequence if he did it.

  1. Can uphold the truth

By wisdom, someone can uphold the truth (haq) because he will not decide in hurry. He will search valid data first, think about the affect of his decision later, and then he will decide based on his investigation. [AdSense-C]

  1. Not easily exploited by unbelievers

Moslem who do not have knowledge and wisdom will be easily exploited by unbelievers. They do not like to fight in the way of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, even they persuade others. Indeed, this behavior will bring them to the Hell forever. As Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala said in His Book, Qur’an, which reads :

“Do not go forth in the heat.” Say, “The fire of Hell is more intensive in heat – if they would but understand.” (Q.S. At-Tawbah : 81)

  1. Can solve a conflict

Someone who have wisdom in his life can solve a conflict in his family and his society. So, he can create peace in his life. Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala said,

“And We gave him wisdom and discernment in speech.” (Q.S. Sad : 20)

  1. Can control emotion

By having wisdom, we can control our emotion. For example, if our child fought with his friend, then we do not anger directly, but we have to know first why they did it. Because maybe, he was disturbed by his friend first. So, he replied that friend. As his parents, we should be wise. Do not let us wrong step to make a decision. Because this decision will give effect in his growth later.
