5 Islamic Values of Taking Care of Abandoned Child

Nowadays, we face so many social problems in society from economic problems, poverty, health, and include the abandoned child. As the next generation of the nation, children become the most important human stock for a better life in the nation.

That makes sense if we should protect abandoned children no matter what. Even though it was written under the law to protect them in the nation, unfortunately, some people still abandoned them.

As the economic growth in the country, that doesn’t mean the abandoned child problem can be resolved easily. Muslims know that they should not abandon them so that commonly some of them taking care of the child.

Muslims know better that there are some values based on the Islamic law of taking care of an abandoned child that could not be avoided easily. Here we have some of these values based on the Islamic law referring to the Quran. Check them out!

1. God-fearing values

Muslims believe that if they keep doing good deeds Allah will give them His blessing as they know how to stay Istiqamah towards the Islamic rule. That will significantly increase their god-fearing values through their spiritual behavior. One of the things that they should do to get the good god-fearing values is by taking care of the abandoned child that significant to the benefit of dhikr every morning.

Such as mentions in the Quran surah Al Baqarah verse 177 below.

لَيْسَ الْبِرَّاَنْ تُوَلُّوْا وُجُوْهَكُمْ قِبَلَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَلٰكِنَّ الْبِرَّ مَنْ اٰمَنَ بِاللّٰهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الْاٰخِرِ وَالْمَلٰۤىِٕكَةِ وَالْكِتٰبِ وَالنَّبِيّٖنَ ۚ وَاٰتَى الْمَالَ عَلٰى حُبِّهٖ ذَوِى الْقُرْبٰى وَالْيَتٰمٰى وَالْمَسٰكِيْنَ وَابْنَ السَّبِيْلِۙ وَالسَّاۤىِٕلِيْنَ وَفىِ الرِّقَابِۚ وَاَقَامَ الصَّلٰوةَ وَاٰتَى الزَّكٰوةَ ۚ وَالْمُوْفُوْنَ بِعَهْدِهِمْ اِذَا عَاهَدُوْا ۚ وَالصّٰبِرِيْنَ فِى الْبَأْسَاۤءِ وَالضَّرَّاۤءِ وَحِيْنَ الْبَأْسِۗ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ الَّذِيْنَ صَدَقُوْا ۗوَاُولٰۤىِٕكَ هُمُ الْمُتَّقُوْنَ – ١٧٧

Virtue is not turning your face towards east and west, but virtue is (virtue) those who believe in Allah, the Last Day, the angels, the books, and the prophets and give his beloved property to relatives, orphans, the poor, those who are on the way (travelers), beggars, and to free slaves, those who pray and pay zakat, those who keep their promises when they make promises, and those who are patient in poverty and suffering. and in times of war. They are righteous, and they are pious.” (QS 2:177)

2. Charity Values

The Islamic law always reminding Muslims to share what they have with others as the main reason to do charity so that they will get more of Allah’s blessing. Muslim should do the charity on their daily life within concerning their earn. It includes sharing with the needs, orphan, and abandoned child.

During Ramadhan, commonly Muslims will do so much charity that similar to the meaning of what is sadaqah Jariyah in Islam so that may Allah will give His blessing. Such as mentions on the Quran surah Al Insan verses 8-10 below as the basic virtues of charity.

وَيُطْعِمُوْنَ الطَّعَامَ عَلٰى حُبِّهٖ مِسْكِيْنًا وَّيَتِيْمًا وَّاَسِيْرًا – ٨ اِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللّٰهِ لَا نُرِيْدُ مِنْكُمْ جَزَاۤءً وَّلَا شُكُوْرًا – ٩ اِنَّا نَخَافُ مِنْ رَّبِّنَا يَوْمًا عَبُوْسًا قَمْطَرِيْرًا – ١٠

“And they give food that they like to the poor, orphans and captives, (saying), “Indeed we give food to you only because we expect the pleasure of Allah, we do not expect a reply and thanks from you. Indeed, we fear (the punishment of) God on the day (when) people with sour faces are full of trouble.” (QS 76:8-10)

3. Patience Values

In Islam, to be patient is not easy things that you can reach and passed easily. One of the ways to get through how hard the patience values in Islam is taking care of the abandoned child.

It mentions on the Quran surah Al Balad verses 12-16 below.

وَمَآ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا الْعَقَبَةُ ۗ – ١٢ فَكُّ رَقَبَةٍۙ – ١٣ اَوْ اِطْعَامٌ فِيْ يَوْمٍ ذِيْ مَسْغَبَةٍۙ – ١٤ يَّتِيْمًا ذَا مَقْرَبَةٍۙ – ١٥ اَوْ مِسْكِيْنًا ذَا مَتْرَبَةٍۗ – ١٦

“And do you know what the climbing and the arduous path are? (i.e.) releasing slavery (slaves), or feeding on a day of famine, (to) orphans who are related to relatives, or very poor people.” (QS 90: 12-16)

4. Self-control values

Taking care of an abandoned child sometimes can be hard. Moreover, if they have some of the wealth from their parents or others relatives before. That can be some struggle that may Allah gives some testify to Muslim over those things that similar with some benefits of obeying parents in Islam.

Therefore Muslims will have good self-control values so that may Allah gives His blessing to them by taking care of the wealth from the abandoned child. such as mentions in the Quran surah Al Isra verse 34 below and remember to recite the dua to keep away from sin once you recite this verse.

وَلَا تَقْرَبُوْا مَالَ الْيَتِيْمِ اِلَّا بِالَّتِيْ هِيَ اَحْسَنُ حَتّٰى يَبْلُغَ اَشُدَّهٗۖ وَاَوْفُوْا بِالْعَهْدِۖ اِنَّ الْعَهْدَ كَانَ مَسْـُٔوْلًا – ٣٤

“And do not approach the property of an orphan, except in a better (beneficial) way until he is an adult, and fulfills the promise, because the promise will surely be held accountable.” (QS 17:34)

5. Doing Good Deed Values

In Islam, there are so many ways to doing good deeds including taking care of the abandoned child to get some of Allah’s mercy and blessing. Even though doing a good deed in Islam is unlimited, but taking care of an abandoned child becomes one of the mandatory deeds mentions so many times in the Quran.

One of the verses from the Quran mentions in surah An Nisa verse 36 below.

وَّبِالْوَالِدَيْنِ اِحْسَانًا وَّبِذِى الْقُرْبٰى وَالْيَتٰمٰى وَالْمَسٰكِيْنِ وَالْجَارِ ذِى الْقُرْبٰى وَالْجَارِ الْجُنُبِ وَالصَّاحِبِ بِالْجَنْۢبِ وَابْنِ السَّبِيْلِۙ وَمَا مَلَكَتْ اَيْمَانُكُمْ ۗ ٣٦

“….And be kind to your parents, relatives, orphans, poor people, near and far neighbors, colleagues, ibn Sabil and slaves you have…” (QS 4:36)

So, there are some of the Islamic values of taking care of an abandoned child based on the Quran. Most of them bring Muslims into good deeds behavior so that may Allah will give His blessing and mercy.
