Law of Cutting Nails When Fasting – Is It Allowed?

Keeping a personal hygiene is the guidance that is taught in Islamic religion. Since Islam is very fond of cleanliness. There is even a saying that cleanliness is part of faith. Before performing any worship we are required to purify ourselves by means of ablution.

Islam not only teaches ablution to purify themselves. Starting from ablution itself there are teachings and guidance. So that we can follow the correct way of ablution (wudu) according to the teachings of Rasulullah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa salam. See also : law of cutting nails when during menstrual period in Islam

Besides performing ablution, another way to pure ourselves taught by Islam is ghusl (full body ritual purification mandatory before performing various rituals and prayers) or commonly called with major bath or junub bath. In the teachings of Islam itself there is a chapter itself that discusses about purification, that is Thaharah.

In this Thaharah we are taught how to purify ourselves from small or big hadats, to purify themselves when exposed to unclean.

In a hadith, Rasulullah Shalallahu Alaihi Wassalam said:

“I’m for you like a father. I teach you if you want to go to the toilet do not face the Qiblah and do not back it up, and do not wash with your right hand.” He also ordered to wash with three stones. He forbids purification with animal feces and bones.” (Hadith Nasai : 40)

To purify ourselves there are 2 kind of tools, Which are water and dust. There are some body parts that need to be nurtured or shaved more precisely, such as nails, pubic hair, and beard. The law of shaving of beard must be known and practiced by the Ikhwan (Man).

Because only the brothers who have beards on the body. Then also need to know the law of keeping the beard is one of the Sunnah of Rasulullah sallallaahu alaihi Wassalam so that can be implemented by ikhwan.

While other body parts such as parts of the nails and pubic hair can be practiced for the ikhwan and akhwat (woman). Shaving pubic hairs in Islam is also a sunnah taught by Rasulullah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa salam. So, the benefits are not only in terms of health alone. See also : the virtue of Muharram

Nail cut is also the thing done by Rasulullah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa salam. Nothing states that the law of cutting nails when fasting is prohibited or not allowed.

Since Rasulullah sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa salam himself is very keeping his cleanliness so to cut the nails or shave the pubic hair was not more than 40 days. Just imagine, if for approximately 40 days our fingernails are not cut then the nails will certainly be long.

And sometimes, the length already exceeds inside the finger itself so that at the bottom of the nail can save dirt. Dirt on the finger can also impact our health.

Since, our hands are always used to perform activities. So when we use hands that unconsciously have a lot of dirt on the bottom of the nail that used to eat, then this dirt can also be carried. See also : law of man use marriage ring in Islam
