The Law of Doing Marriage Proposal in Ramadhan Month

The month of Ramadhan often becomes a special month for Muslims, until the desire to do all the important matters of the month in the hope of gaining greater blessings and kindness. One of them is a procession of doing marriage proposal in the month of Ramadan. Maybe among us it is an unusual thing, but it turns out  some of people do that thing.

Everything is actually back to the intention, if it is well intentioned because of Allah, it will get a good way too, however, how does Islam see about this? Can we do marriage proposal in Ramadhan? Will t it interfere the fasting or Ramadhan worship? To understand it more deeply, consider the following description, the law of marriage proposal in the month of Ramadan.

Doing Marriage Proposal in Ramadhan

Doing Marriage Proposal is a worship of the sunnah of the Prophet who performed before the marriage reception, because the Prophet Muhammad ‘alaihi wa sallam also in the past used to propose for himself and for others. Doing marriage proposal according to Islam in syar’i way is recommended before marriage. And the purpose of proposal is: to know whether the proposal is agreed or not. Whether someone who is proposed has the will to get married or not.

Similarly, to know the opinion of his guardian, namely to ensure that both parties directly concerned and their immediate family, have agreed or not, already understand the importance of love in Islam or not, because marriage is a matter that involving two families, so it will be far more beautiful if got approval and support from the both of family.

In Islamic law, there is no best time to propose, whenever it feels right or ready, it can be done as soon as possible to avoid slander and avoid adultery in Islam, so that when it is agreed upon by both parties, the next step is to define the wedding date.

The law of proposal in the month of Ramadan is permissible, but must with the intention because of Allah, while maintaining the heart in Islam for sincerity and calm, about blessing, goodness, lucky day, and another things are not included in it, because only Allah determines blessings in every affair, if with the intention of good luck it will bring to the wrong way and intention. Various sources that strengthen it, as follows :

  1. Fit the Agreement of Both Parties

If the applicant is ready, and has conveyed his intentions to the guardian or the parents of the person proposed, then the proposal can be done even though done in the month of Ramadan, there are various parties who do it and immediately determine the date of marriage in the month of Shawwal after the proposal has been applied to the law of marriage proposal in Islam.

The marriage proposal  will indeed reveal the circumstances and feelings, attitudes of women or men who are proposed and their families. Where the fit of these two core elements are demanded and attempted to be exist completely before the marriage reception is done, so the marriage which is happened  is because of love between the two and because of the intention for the sake of Allah.

The Rasulullah shalallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said:

A widow won’t be married except until she asks and a girl won’t be married until she permits (according to her will), They ask” O Messenger of Allah, how about her permission? He replied ‘If she is silent”. it is clear that prior to marriage approval should be done with the marriage proposal  event. [AdSense-B]

2. Not Disturbing Mandatory Worship

As we know that the month of Ramadan is the month in which Muslims motivates themselves to do worship and get closer to Allah by performing various practices Ramadan deeds, which are sunnah especially the mandatory deeds. Marriage proposal made in the month of Ramadan can be done as long as it does not interfere with mandatory worship. (Read Tips Fasting Ramadhan by Prophet SAW)

3. Doing The marriage proposal can be done in Ramadhan but  has a shorter time

[AdSense-A] In the month of Ramadan, the marriage proposal can be done at the right time for example is at the time of the afternoon after ashar and continued with iftar together, then after the event is completed and the wedding date has been determined, people who does marriage proposal can return home.

Thus by not disturbing the time to do worship, after ashar is the recommended time to do silaturrahim, the marriage proposal can be done while do silaturrahim.

It also has a long enough time with maghrib, so that people can do fast-breaking and do maghrib prayers on time. After that we can go back home and run isya’ prayer, tarawih prayer and witir prayer, and can also run other sunnah worship like reading Al Qur’an without disturbed, so that the marriage proposal passes smoothly without sacrificing mandatory worship and sunnah worship, so Ramadhan blessings  still can be gotten.

Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam married me in the month of Shawwal and built a household with me in the month of Shawwal also. Then which one of the wives of the Messenger of Allah are the luckier on his side than me? “(The narrator) said,” Aisyah used to marry the women in the month of Shawwal. “(HR. Muslim) (Read also Law of Reject Guests in Islam)

3. Required To Keep The Eyesight

When performing Ramadhan and fasting, it is certainly not allowed to see the opposite sex unless by accident, while in the process of marriage proposal there will be a process where the bride and the groom are brought together and it is allowed for a man to see the bride’s face and palm.(Read also The Boundary of Male Awrah in Islam)

Therefore it is possible to do marriage proposal  in the month of ramadhan, with the condition to keep the eyesight and not long in looking at each other, it is enougt to just see the face and palms and not allowed to see in a long time or excessive. This is not only be valid in Ramadan but also in other months.

Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them. Indeed, Allah is Acquaintated with what they do. And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their sons, their husband’s sons,

their brothers, their brothers’s sons, their sisters’ sons, their women, that which their right  hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O belivers, that you might succeed. (Q.S An-Noor : 30-31)

When we do marriage proposal in Ramadan, looking at the woman or the man whom proposed or vice versa then it is allowed, even it is recommended because it is the beginning of the agreement and the sense of confidence. However, with the condition of intending to propose and do not look with exaggeration. The hadiths about this are numerous as follows.

In the sahih hadith of the Muslim from Abu Hurayrah Radhiyallahu ‘anhu that the Prophet shalallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said to a man who would marry a woman: ‘Have you seen her? He said: “Not yet”. He said: ‘Go, then look at her. “

It is clear that looking at the proposed person may be within reasonable limits and not excessive. if not knowing the face of each other it would be a problem because there is a doubt between the two and the lack of steadiness of the heart so it is feared that it will affect the future marriage in the future.

4. Marriage Proposal Procedures in the month of Ramadhan

Procedures to propose. Narrated by Imam Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Judge of Jabir bin Abdullah Radhiyallahu ‘anhu: Rasulullah shalallahu alaihi wa sallam said:

If any one of you marries a woman and if able to see a woman of anything that encourages you to marry her then do it. “

As explained before that the applicants can see each other with a brief and not excessive, the marriage proposal in the month of Ramadan is done by making agreements first about the day and time, of course in time that does not interfere Ramadan worship like the time after ashar.(Read also Last Ten Nights of Ramadhan)

Furthermore, the guardian of the two defendants can convey their intent and purpose and bring together the two candidates who propose and who is proposed, after the agreement of both, then the date of marriage is determined and the in-depth plan is done for the future.

5. All Day is Good

From the above explanation it can be seen that all days are good, that is the day of marriage proposal if someone intends because of readiness and because want to pursue the path of Allah is to avoid adultery by having a halal marriage bond. There is no good day or bad day in Islam because only Allah determines blessing. So it is clear that the Law of Marriage Proposal in the month of Ramadhan is done because the intention of doing the command of Allah without any intention or other will.

That’s all about marriage proposal in the month of Ramadhan, hopefully it becomes an useful Islamic insight for you. Thanks.
