13 Reasons Why Muslim Celebrate Eid

Eid is a holy day for muslims, it has been a great day that full of joy and happiness. Actually the words eid is muslim refers to a holy festival. Islam have three days of festival, which one of them is celebrated weekly, and two of them celebrated once in a year. And both months where eid lies are part of the most sacred months in Islam. These three days of Eid took a significant role in Muslims life part. Therefore we should understand clearly on the reasons why muslims celebrate Eid. What is the trigger? And what is the purposes?

1. A symbol of freedom

Both eid al-fitr and eid al-adha or jumuah as the three days of holy festival in Islam are a symbol of freedom. Take for an example of eid al-fitr which are the symbol of freedom after muslims took a full month of fasting. Where they fast from morning to afternoon, and performing worship a whole day while doing daily activity such as working or studying or other activities.

2. A symbol of purification

All eid days is a symbol of purification, it means that muslims should embrace theirself after doing several worship, devotion towards Allah SWT. Eid is like a new chapter of our life, where our heart back into purity, a chance to take a new path, a new direction and getting closer to Allah SWT. 3. An opportunity to reach the blessing from Allah SWT

Eid is a special day both eid al-adha or eid al-fitr is an opportunity from muslims to gain the blessing from Allah SWT. During eid al-fitr for example muslims have opportunities to share joy with people in needs by donating in form of charity or sadaqah.

4. A chance to gather with family

Eid is not just about a celebration, but it’s also a chance for all people to gather with their beloved family in such a holy, gracefull, and pious day.

Both during Jumuah, eid al-fitr, or eid al-adha we usually gathered at home and together along with other people gather together in a mosque and performing prayer together. Prior with spending the whole day with friends and family. There so many importance of eid al-adha in Islam.

5. It only happened in short of time

Both eid al-fitr and eid al-adha only happened once in a year. Those short period of time to meet this amazing day is very precious, that is also the great reason why muslim celebrate eid. Those opportunities to meet this day in the future might not happened because of multiple cases.

6. Perfect opportunity to offer thank Allah for all the help

Yes, indeed that eid is a perfect time for muslim to offer their gratitude as well as offering thanks for all the help and sustenance given by Allah SWT to us.

7. This time is very sacred that Islam forbid it’s people to commit sins

The sacred day of Eid is very tremendeous that Allah SWT forbid His people to commit any sins during this time. Instead Allah SWT and Rasulullah encourage muslims all the world to commit good deeds, maintaining peace, mercy, and blessing towards everyone in the world both muslims or non muslims. 8. It’s a replacement of two festivals during the time of ignorance

Anas Ibn Malik reported that,

“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived in Medina during two days in which they were celebrating. The Prophet said, “What are these two days?” They said, “We would celebrate these two days in the time of ignorance.” The Prophet said, “Verily, Allah has replaced these two days with two better days: Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.”

That history became the other reasons why muslim celebrate eid. Since eid have been the legitimate replacement of two festivals during the time of ignorance, in order for muslims not to be fallen again into that darkest time we should embrace eid with wholeheartedly since it is a form of guidance so that we always remember Allah SWT and Rasulullah.

9. A day when Allah SWT completing Islam as the perfect religion

Friday or Jumuah is a day where Allah SWT completing Islam as the perfect religion for all mankind and a form of grace for all beings and nature. As mentioned in the following hadith,

“Umar ibn al-Khattab reported: A man from the Jews said, “O leader of the believers, there is a verse you recite in your book and, had it been revealed to us as Jews, we would have taken that day as a celebration.” Umar said, “Which verse is it?” The man recited the verse, “Today I have completed your religion for you, perfected My favor upon you, and have chosen Islam as your religion.” (5:3)
Umar said, “I know the day and place in which this verse was revealed to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. It was while he was standing on the day of Arafat on Friday.”

10. Allah itself who give an order for muslims to celebrate eid

As mentioned in the hadith below, that Allah SWT give an order to muslim for celebrating friday by performing their best appearance at this time,

“Ibn Abbas reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah has made this day of Friday a celebration for the Muslims. Whoever comes to Friday prayer, let him bathe himself, apply perfume if he has it, and use the toothstick.”

11. A moment where every human given the opportunity to be happy

These days is a perfect day for every human being since Islam encourage their people to perform more good deeds during this days. All people are equal and have the same right to be happy and achieve joy.

12. Time for contemplation and seek forgiveness to Allah SWT

13. Days where Allah SWT bestowed His endowment

Another reasons of why muslim celebrate Eid is that during this time Allah SWT bestowed His endowment from Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Jumuah, and Jumuah in form of history and the background events as well as a wisdom in each event which are very useful for us in the future.
