13 Tips Fasting Ramadhan by Prophet Muhammad

It is narrated from Abu Abdirrahman bin Umar bin Khatthab radhiyallahu ‘anhuma said, “I heard that Rasulullah SAW said,

” بُنِيَ الْإِسْلَامُ عَلَى خَمْسٍ: شَهَادَةِ أَنْ لَا إِلهَ إِلَّا الله،ُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّداً رَسُوْلُ االلهِ، وَإِقَامِ الصَّلَاةِ، وَإِيْتَاءِ الزَّكَاةِ، وَحَجِّ الْبَيْتِ، وَصَوْمِ رَمَضَانَ (رواه البخاري ومسلم)

Meaning:

“Islam was founded based on five matters: Testify that there is no God except Allah SWT, verified that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah SWT, establish prayer, and release the alms fasting during Ramadhan, the last is fulfill Hajj to Ka’bah.” (HR. Bukhari Muslim).

Ramadhan is a special month among the other months created by Allah SWT. During Ramadhan, all Muslim is required to perform his worship by doing fasting Ramadhan in heartfelt to Allah SWT.

Here are some tips fasting ramadhan by Prophet Rasulullah SAW which is recommended to be followed:

  1. Soonest the break fasting

Rasulullah SAW said,

“لَا يَزَالُ النَّاسُ بِخَيْرٍ مَا عَجَّلُوْا الْفِطْرَ – رواه الشيخان

“All human will always in a good condition whereas they are straight away the time for break fasting.” (HR. Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

When the time for break fasting comes, it is better for us to break our fasting immediately because it contained all the good inside of it.

2. Closing shaum time

Zaid bin Tsabit said,

“We have been shaum together with Rasulullah SAW and continued it with Subh prayer. Then I asked,” How long does the time in between (shaum and Subh prayer)? Rasulullah SAW answered, “During fifty clauses of reading.” (HR. Shahih)

Incase 50 clauses is about 5 minutes, then we must stop eating and drinking and after 5 minutes later we are continued it with Subh prayer.

3. Eat Korma and Honey when shaum and break fasting time

“When someone in your surrounding is having break fasting, he shall break it with korma, and when he does not have it, he shall break it with water because it is purely.”(HR. Imam Lima)

Eating 3 pieces of Korma and continued it with 2 spoons of honey after shaum and break fasting time can recover our energy during the whole day activities (read: tips become forceful during fasting). In addition, there are many advantages of Korma and honey for our body because it is contained high calories. 4. Reading Al-Qur’an

Imam Az-Zuhri said,

“When Ramadhan comes, our primary activities are fasting and reading Al-Qur’an.”

It shall be read with a good tajwid and tadabburi, easily understand and practice the content. Insya Allah, we will be better person.

Ramadhan is a fully blessed month because it is the first time that Al-Qur’an was being revealed. In fact, Rasulullah SAW was founded likes to read Al-Qur’an in Ramadhan aside from the other months because there are many lessons contained inside of it.

5. Do Exercises

“When someone is fasting in your surroundings, it shall be in the condition of sweet-smelling with tidy hair on the next morning.” (HR. Bukhari)

Fasting should not interrupt our daily activities. In fact, we are advisable to maintain our spirit to continue our worship and work time .

It is better to continue exercise though we are lessening the frequency to do it.  We will feel fresh after taking a bath again though we are sweatiest, tired and thirsty.

6. Provide food for break fasting

“Those who are provide food for people whose doing fasting, he shall get rewards as if as he is fasting alike those who are fasting, without any lessen of the rewards for those who are fasting.” (Shohih Nasa’I and Tirmidzi).

By providing food for neighbors, yatim and the poor, we are feeling happy and also get rewards from Allah SWT.

7. Perform Da’wah

“And be amongst of you are people who do good deeds, inform to all ma’ruf, and prevent from the devil; they are the lucky ones.”(TQS. Al-Imran [3]:104).

Though it is only one clause, it is delivered the justified of the function of Al-Qur’an to mankind and its miracle to the world.

8. Do Tarawih

Tarawih is one of the special of Ramadhan because it is the only prayer which exists in Ramadhan.  Due to the feeling of worries that Tarawih will be assumed as a mandatory prayer since there are many people come to mosque, Rasulullah is doing the Tarawih at home.

9. Do Itikaf

Means that remaining ourselves at the mosque to show our godly to Allah SWT (read: the benefit of Godly to Allah SWT). It is one of the others good deeds that always been doing by Rasulullah SAW during Ramadhan. Imam Az-Zuhri comments,

Such an awkward Islam, they left the itikaf whereas Rasulullah was never abandoning it since he came to Madinah until he died.”

10. Excited awaiting Lailatul Qadr

Lailatul Qadr is one of special night in Ramadhan because it is full of blessed which is believed its value of 1000 months (read: the virtues of Lailatul Night). The fact that there are some people can obtain Lailatul Qadr makes Rasulullah SAW taught us to pray,”

“Allahumma innaka ‘afuwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘annii” which means,

”Dear God, You are the master of the Merciful and All Merciful, please forgive me.”

Here, Rasulullah SAW informed us to always ask Allah SWT forgiveness so we can obtain the special night.

Rasulullah SAW is focusing his worship at the first 10 days (read: Fadhilah of the First 10 Fasting Ramadhan), in the middle of the month, and the end of 10 days to obtain Lailatul Qadr.

It is narrated from Bukhari and Muslim that Rasullah SAW said,

 “Those who are do praying at the Lailatul Qadr based on Faith and ihtissab, Allah SWT will give His remittance to all past sins.”

11. Do Umrah

Ramadhan is a month full of blessing and we are eager to do all the good deeds to obtain as many as rewards. Here, if we are advisable to do Umrah if affordable since it will not be burden during fasting. In fact, our fasting will be smoothest and get abundant rewards. Amen. Rasulullah SAW said to Ummu Sinan,

” An Anshar woman, when Ramadhan comes, she shall do Umrah because its value is as same as Hajj with Rasulullah SAW.”

12. Do Tawbah

During Ramadhan, Allah SWT will always forgive all His ummat as long as they are truly do it with heartfelt. It is the month whereas Allah SWT is given her bless to us to be fitrah again.

13. Giving Zakat Fitrah for those affordable

A day before Ramadhan is over, it is mandatory for all affordable Muslim to settle up zakat fitrah as it is stated on the shari’a Islam. It is believed that by giving zakat fitrah, we are returning to fitrah again as of as Allah SWT permission.
