12 Virtues of Martyrdom in Islam

Death is a secret of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala. No one know about their death. They cannot avoid it. Fast or slow, death will come to every human.

It does not care where and what they are doing. If Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala has set it, then it will be happened.

As it is mentioned in the word of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala below :

وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ بِأَيِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ

“No soul perceives in what land it will die. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.” (Q.S. Al-Lukman : 34)

كُلُّ نَفْسٍ ذَائِقَةُ الْمَوْتِ

“Every soul will taste death.” (Q.S. Ali Imran : 185)

أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُوا يُدْرِكُكُمُ الْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنْتُمْ فِي بُرُوجٍ مُشَيَّدَةٍ

“Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction.” (Q.S. An-Nisa : 78)

The soul of martyrdom people are still alive on the side of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala

Al-Qur’an surah Ali Imron verse 169, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala said that

“And never think of those who have been killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision.”

As a supporter of that verse, the hadith of Ibn Majah number 2801 narrated that the soul of those who martyrdom will be incarnated as a green bird that its nest is in the Arsy of Allah.

This bird looks for food whatever it want in the Heaven every day. Masya Allah!

2. Get six things from Allah Subahanahu Wa Ta’ala

“The martyrs gets six things on the side of Allah : Be forgiven his sins since the first blood flowed, be noticed his position in the Heaven, be saved from grave punishment, be free from a big fear, be decorated with faith jewelry, be married with angel and can get intercessory to his seventy siblings.” [Narrated by Ibn Majah number 2789]

All sins will be erased

From Abdullah bin ‘Amr bin ‘Ash radhiallahu anhuma that The Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said :

“Those who is killed in the way of Allah (martyrdom) will be erased all of their sins except debt.” (Narrated Muslim number 1886)

The martyrs does not feel hurt

“Have told to me Muhammad bin Basyar and Ahmad bin Ibrahim Ad Dauraqi and Bisyr bin Adam, all said; has told to me Shafwan bin Isa, has informed to me Muhammad bin ‘Ajlan from Al Qa’qa bin Hakim from Abu Shalih from Abu Hurairah, he said : Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said : “The martrys does not feel hurt, but like one of you is pinched.” (Narrated by Ibn Majah number 2792) [AdSense-B]

The smell of his blood is similar to the scent of musk

“For the sake of the Essence that my soul in His hand! Nobody is hurt in the way of Allah and Allah knows better who is hurt in His way – but he will come in the Hereafter : he is blood red while his smell is the scent of musk.” (Narrated by Ahmad and Muslim)

Drops of his blood is one of drops that the most loved by Allah SWT

“No thing that is loved by Allah than two kinds of drops or two kinds of scar : drops of tear because fear of Allah and drops of blood that fall in the way of Allah; and as for that scar is the scar of jihad in the way of Allah and the scar of doing obligations from Allah’s obligations,” (Narrated by At Tirmidzi – hasan hadith)

Get some virtues from Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala

“No one die and in the side of Allah, he has goodness that make him happy, then he want to go back to the world except the martyrs. Indeed he wishes to go back (to the world) then he is killed again because he looks virtues of martyrdom.” (Narrated by Muslim number 3488)

Get the highest position on the side of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala

It is narrated by Imam Ahmad in his musnad from Ibn Abbas r.a. that the Prophet Muhammad Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said :

“All martyrs are in the highest part of the Heaven’s door, on a green dome, their rizq from Heaven will be out both in the morning or in the afternoon.”

The martyrs soul is in the Heaven’s tree

Imam Ahmad narrated from Muhammad biin Idris Al-Syafi’i and Imam Syafi’i narrated from Malik bin Anas and Malik from Al-Zuhri from Abdurrahman bin Ka’ab bin Malik from his father radhiallahu anhu said, Rasulullah Shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said :

“The soul of believer is a bird that hang on Heaven’s tree, so Allah gives it back into his body on the day he is resurrected.” (Narrated Imam Ahmad 3/460)

Be promised the Heaven

Allah SWT has promised the Heaven for martyrs as His word below :

لَّا يَسْتَوِى ٱلْقَٰعِدُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ غَيْرُ أُو۟لِى ٱلضَّرَرِ وَٱلْمُجَٰهِدُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ ۚ فَضَّلَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُجَٰهِدِينَ بِأَمْوَٰلِهِمْ وَأَنفُسِهِمْ عَلَى ٱلْقَٰعِدِينَ دَرَجَةً ۚ وَكُلًّا وَعَدَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ ۚ وَفَضَّلَ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُجَٰهِدِينَ عَلَى ٱلْقَٰعِدِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا

“Not equal are those believers remaining [at home] – other than the disabled – and the mujahedeen, [who strive and fight] in the cause of Allah with their wealth and their lives.

Allah has preferred the mujahedeen through their wealth and their lives over those who remain [behind], by degrees. And to both Allah has promised the best [reward]. But Allah has preferred the mujahedeen over those who remain [behind] with a great reward.” (Q.S. An-Nisa : 95)
