Knowledge is an obligation that must be achieved by every human being. Allah puts Man as a khilafah that has free will on the grounds which the rational brain given to it can be used to rectify the wrong and confirm the right. That is why the study of science can be very beneficial if what is learned is a good thing. And on the other hand, it can also be very dangerous if what is learned is a bad thing. In a Hadith, Rasulullah Shallallahu’alaihi Wasallam said:
مَن سلَك طريقًا يطلُبُ فيه عِلْمًا ، سلَك اللهُ به طريقًا مِن طُرُقِ الجَنَّةِ
“Whoever walks the path of knowledge, Allah will make it easier for him to go to heaven.” (Narrated by At Tirmidhi no. 2682, Abu Daud no. 3641, Al Albani in Sahih Abu Daud confirms that it is sahih).
That is why Tholabul mi Ilmi is very important. In this study, we will discuss the virtues of studying in a mosque, and why Tholabul mi Ilmi in the house of God can bring more values than other scientific assemblies.
The advantages of learning at mosques compared to other places are:
A mosque is a place that is loved by Allah. In the Hadith, the Prophet Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam said,
“The place that is loved by God in a country is its mosques and the place that God hates most is its markets.” (Narrated by Muslim)
So that learning in a place that is loved by God is a pleasure for those who think and grateful.
It means people who support the mosque. Making it to the mosque is a ‘necessity’ which if not done, he will lose. Allah says in Surah, At-Taubah verse 18 which reads:
“Only those who prosper the mosques of Allah are those who believe in Allah and the Days, and still establish prayers, perform zakat, and not be afraid (to anyone) other than Allah, then they are the people who are expected to belong to the group of people who gets a clue.” (Surah At-Taubah, 18)
When we attend the assemblies held in the mosque, then remain silent before arriving after the prayer time, we also give certainty to ourselves to be on time in performing the prayer. And more than that, we can pray in congregation.
Studying, discussing, listening to lectures or culture in mosques is also a blessing that we can get. Because, with this, we can learn by being accompanied by clerics or religious scholars who are more expert than us. In fact, in a higher interpretation, scholars say that:

“It is mandatory for people who are looking for the right way (learning religion) to find a teacher who is right, and under the direction of a perfect teacher so that they can deliver to the essence of belief by promoting spiritual power over physical strength (mind reason).”

Most merciful Allah, that when we step our feet towards the mosque, then the steps will be counted as good deeds by Allah. In the Hadith, the Prophet Sallallaahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam said,
“Whoever cleanses in his house then he walks towards one of the houses of God (i.e. the mosque) to fulfill the obligations that Allah has obliged, then one step of his foot will erase sin and the other footsteps will elevate his degree.” (Narrated by Muslim, no. 666)

If we visit the mosque (both in matters of tholabul and the prayer), we will often meet our Muslim brothers and sisters there. Even today, we sometimes work in one office or study at a university with our friends but we rarely meet. The mosque is a meeting point where believers will meet each other, in other words, we can tighten the friendship while studying.
A person will be judged by others from appearance and habits. If we often have bad habits, then other people will judge us badly. On the other hand, if we have good habits, we will be judged well.
That is why, if we often go to mosques, other people will see us with good prejudice. In fact, God willing, we can avoid slander.
If we often study at mosques, and for the purpose of our God, then over time it will become a routine. A positive routine will bring blessings and prevent us from negative things.

The mosque is the house of God. And by His will, those who learn in it will be given physical and heartfelt security. It creates a feeling of peace so that when we do activities in it, we will be more at peace.
The more you visit, the cleaner the mosque will be. That is the nature of the mosque, not only the place but also the Muslims who visited. When we study in mosques, we will avoid dirty things. These dirty things are hardships, and also the words and bad deeds of others.
People who often study or worship in mosques are considered as one of seven people who will be saved by God on the Day of Judgment. Mentioned at the history of at-Tirmidhi (in the seven classes of people sheltered by Allah on the Day of Judgment) one of them is:
“A man whose heart is attached to the mosque, if he comes out of the mosque to return to him.”
The more you meet, the more you love. God willing, if we often visit the mosque in matters of worship and study, then Allah will love us more. And everything we learn in a mosque or worship that we do in it, is considered by God in granting faithfully the prayers we pray.

God who is all-merciful is indeed very generous. God gives an extraordinary way of meeting each of his servants, extraordinary also in providing pleasure to draw closer to Him.
From the study of 12 virtues of learning in the mosque above, it can be concluded that there are many benefits we can get if we go to the mosque to join in the scientific assemblies. Hopefully, it can be a reminder for us and add piety to Allah SWT.
