The habit of waking up which is commonly done is to read prayer as the virtue of morning, as a form of gratitude for being blessed by Allah, and again to give awareness. In Islam, it turns out that not only reading prayers is recommended when you wake up, but there are still many others that bring good and rewards, here are 15 etiquettes of waking up that we can apply in our daily lives.
Ibn Abbas Radhiyallahu ‘anhu told about the tips of sleeping well in Islam, that he had stayed at his aunt’s house, Maimunah Radhiyallahu‘ anha, one wife of the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam. Ibn Abbas said, then when he entered midnight, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam woke up, then he sat down, then wiped the drowsiness on his face with his hand. (Narrated by Ahmad 2201, Bukhari 183, Nasai 1631, and others)
Among the recitations he recited when he was sleeping was about the prohibition of sleeping on his stomach, “All praise is to Allah who revived us after He killed us, and only to Him we will be resurrected.” That the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam when he woke up he read: Alhamdulillah alladzi ahyaanaa… etc. (Narrated by Bukhari 6312, Muslim 2711, and others)

“Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the Earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are signs for people who have a reason.” Ibn Abbas relates his experience when staying at his aunt Maimunah’s house, he sat down, then wiped the former sleepiness on his face with his hands, then he read the last 10 verses of the letter of Ali Imran. (Narrated by Ahmad 2201, Bukhari 183, Nasai 1631, and others).
Prophet shollallahu’alaihi wassalam when he woke up at night, he cleaned his mouth with a mongoose (Narrated by Bukhari 245 and Muslim 255). Brushing your teeth when you wake up is certainly good. If you wake up doing other activities, it will feel comfortable because your mouth and teeth are clean so you do not disturb yourself or others.
“Surely a servant when trying to establish prayer, there comes an angel to him. Then the angel stood behind him, listened to Al-Quran’s reading, and drew closer to him. He did not stop and approach until he put his mouth on the servant’s mouth. It is not the servant who reads a verse unless the verse enters the angel’s stomach.”(Narrated by Baihaqi in Sunan al-Kubro 1/38 and handed over by al-Albani in as-Shahihah)
Inserting water into the nose by suctioning in Arabic is called istinsyaq and issuing it is called istintsar. After waking up, we are recommended to do this kind of thing 3 times, to clean the nasal cavity. Because when humans sleep, Satan stays in his nostrils. From Abu Hurairah radhiyallahu ‘anhu, the Prophet sallallaahu‘ alaihi wa sallam said, “When you wake up, you will clean the inside of your nose three times because the devil stays in the nasal cavity.” (Narrated by Bukhari 3295 and Muslim 238)
From Abu Hurairah radhiallahu anhu, the Prophet sallallaahu’alaihi wassalam advised, if you wake up then you should not dip your hand in the container before you wash it 3 times because you do not know where your hand last night was.” (Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim 278)
Imam An Nawawi explained: “The Prophet Shallallahu’alaihi Wasallam reminded every waking up, that sleep is similar to death, to the resurrection day after death. The scholars say that the prayer lesson before going to bed is that the cover of the practice is as stated. And the prayer of getting up to sleep is the opening practice on that day in the form of remembering monotheism and good words.” (Syarah Shahih Muslim, 17/35)
When you wake up, for example in the morning or afternoon and are approaching prayer times, it is recommended to immediately wake up and wash your face and pray so that worship is not delayed. “If you stand for prayer, wash your faces.” (Surah Al-Maidah: 6)
From Abu Hurairah radhiallahu’anhu, the Messenger of Allah Shallallahu’alaihi Wasallam said: “Satan ties the neck of someone’s head between you while sleeping with three ties. On each bond, he said: “Your night is still long, keep on sleeping”. So if the person wakes up, then he remembers Allah, opens a bond.
Then if he performs ablution, one more bond is opened. Then if he prayed then the whole bond was opened. So he woke up in a state of enthusiasm and a good soul. But if you do not do that, then he will usually wake up in a bad state of his soul.” (Narrated by Bukhari no. 1142, Muslim no. 776)
“People who wake up earnestly to immediately work on the dawn prayer as a form of gratitude to God for the life that God gave and for the return of spirit to our bodies. And he should understand that it is a great favor.” (Umdatul Qari, 5/70)
Shaykh Muhammad bin Salih Al Utaimin explained about the prayer of waking up: “(By reading this prayer) then you praise Allah who has raised you from death (sleep) and reminds you of the resurrection day, namely the resurrection from the grave and out of the grave, towards Allah Almighty. So, by rising from a small death (sleeping) you remember the resurrection from a great death.” (Syarah Riyadus Shalihin, 1/1652)
When we sleep, of course, we are in an unconscious condition. It could be during sleep we get death or disaster, because when awakened by God in a conscious and healthy condition no less, then it is obligatory to be grateful because God is still given the opportunity to live.

And in this situation, with the mongoose, it will eliminate bad odors in the mouth.” (Al Mulakhas Al Fiqhi, 1/36)
When you wake up, for example in the morning or wake up from a nap, of course, we will then do all activities, be it work or other activities at home, For that, it is recommended that you ask for protection to God so that the next activity is carried out smoothly and blessed.
“Praise be to Allah who raised us after turning us off, and to Him we returned. I entered the morning, while the power remained only the property of God, the glory and power of God. (He is) God exclaims all the worlds. I welcome the morning with the sanctity of Islam and with sincere sentences (creed) and with the religion (brought) by the Prophet Muhammad.”
“Also with our religion, Abraham, we surrender, and we are not a group of polytheists. O God, with You, we entered morning and evening, with You we lived and died and to You we returned. God, we beg You awaken us today to kindness. And we take refuge in You from doing evil or employing Islam to the ugliness and employing people for evil. I ask You for the goodness of today and the goodness in it and to ask for protection from today’s ugliness and the ugliness in it.”
When you sleep, of course you often wear clothes that do not cover your genitals, because it feels uncomfortable if you sleep completely covered in clothes, to guard yourself, then after waking up, immediately fix yourself and immediately close the genitals so that you can immediately do next activity comfortably.
