15 Awesome Ways How to Have a Pure Heart in Islam

The key to be a successful Muslim is to have a pure heart to begin with.

“He has succeeded who purifies himself, who remembers the name of his Lord and prays.” – Al A’la (87:14-15)

According to what Prophet Muhammad (SAW) taught us, pure heart belongs to those who clean themselves from doubt. sin, cheating, jealousy, and lying. A pure heart filled only with love for Allah SWT will please Him, and for those who has it will be granted a big reward.

As having a pure heart is important in Islam, here are the ways how to have a pure heart in Islam, with the intention to please Allah SWT.

1. Doing the Obligatory Prayers

No deeds will please Allah more than fulfilling one of your main duty, the five obligatory prayers for a day. It’s a duty that Allah gave directly to His Apostle. The Prophet (SAW) himself once was asked,

“Which deed is the dearest to Allah?”

To which the Prophet (SAW) answered,

To offer the prayers at their early stated fixed times” – Bukhari

2. Recite the Quran and Its Meaning

The Holy Quran is the ultimate guide of living for Allah’s SWT worshiper. The purpose of Quran being sent down to humanity as guide and a therapy to heal the heart.

“Indeed, We have sent it down as an Arabic Quran, in order that you may understand” – Yusuf (12:2)

So for Muslims whose language is not Arabic, they should read it along with the meaning. As it is a good guide for every Muslims.

3. Praise Allah All the Time

Allah SWT has many dearest name which all His worshiper should call upon Him with it. There are four dearest name of Allah to be remembered in any time: Subhan Allah (Glory be to Allah), Al-Hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illa-Allah (There is no deity but Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greater). Read this after Salah and other time.

4. Say Allah’s Name

As we all know, Allah SWT has 99 beautiful name. Call on Allah using those name, as its contain character. Say it with sincerity of love.

“And the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah, so call on Him by them” – Al A’raf (7:180)

5. Seek for Allah’s Forgiveness

To have a pure heart in Islam, you have to ask for Allah’s forgiveness so that all of your sin could be erased from your heart. As what the Prophet has taught us, we should ask for Allah’s forgiveness at least one hundred times a day by saying “Astaghfirullahaladzim”.

“Sometimes I perceive a veil over my heart, and I supplicate Allah for forgiveness a hundred times in a day.”

6. Make Dua to Allah SWT

Whenever you are in doubt and feel lost, don’t hesitate to call for help from Allah SWT.

“And Your Lord said: ‘Call upon me, I will respond to you.’” – Ghafir (40:60)

Start your prayer by praising Allah SWT then send blessings to His beloved Prophet, Muhammad (SAW).Whatever you ask for, Allah SWT will answer you. Especially when the deeds you do is under the intention to please Him. As the Prophet (SAW) said, “O worshipper, ask and you will be answered.”

7. Send Blessing to the Prophet (SAW)

By sending blessings to Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Allah SWT will also be pleased by the act.

“Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O you who believe! Send you blessings on him, and salute him with all respect” – Al Ahzab (33:56)

The Prophet (SAW) also said,

“Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah will send blessings upon him tenfold and will erase from him ten misdeeds and raise him ten degrees in status.”

8. Think Positively of Allah SWT

Remember that Allah is always full of mercy, help,wisdom, love, and all goodness to His servants. Allah is always by your side and think positively that Allah will always gives the best to you. Never questioned about anything Allah SWT gives you in your life.

9. Be Grateful to Allah SWT

Express your gratitude toward Allah SWT so that you always close to Him.

“Remember Me and I shall remember you. Be grateful unto Me and deny Me not.” – Al Baqara (2:152)

Allah will never burden you with hardship beyond what you can bear. As you always have something to be thankful to Allah SWT.

“Allah does not wish to impose hardship upon you. Rather, He wishes to purify you; and to complete His blessings upon you; and in order that you may be thankful.” – Al Maida (5: the end of verse 6)

10. Repent for Your Sin

Human is a sinful being who always commit sins everyday. Repent for your sins sincerely to purify your heart from all the bad deeds.

When You Need to Purify Your Heart

To have a pure heart something a Muslim should have. It’s very beneficial to have a pure heart. The foundation of the soul will be strengthen. To pure your heart, you don’t need a warning from Allah SWT. But here are some condition that you should watch out to purify your soul:

  1. When your intention in anything is no longer because of Allah SWT and your deeds no longer please Allah.
  2. Your speech becomes arrogant and you become thinking so highly of yourself. As you actually own nothing in the world, you should be back to the path of Allah SWT.
  3. You become more distant from Allah SWT and feels like disconnected to Him. At this rate, your heart will be uneasy and you hard to find the peace and happiness in your life.
  4. You become more attracted to the worldly pleasure rather than fulfilling your obligation to Allah SWT. You neglect the Hereafter and no longer try to pursue for Jannah.
  5. You are enjoying the company of people who are far away from Allah SWT, you constantly doing evil deeds and committing sins.

Those are all the ways how to have a pure heart in Islam. As a pure heart will be very important in supporting your worshiping acts to Allah SWT. May all of us trying our best to have a pure heart without Allah has to give us the warning.
