“We have enjoined on man kindness to his parents; in pain did his mother bear him, and in pain did she give him birth.” (46:15)
In everyone’s life, a mother holds the most important role. A child would never live unless a mother gave birth to her. Upon giving birth, she risked her life, even willing to die as long as the child survive. A big sacrifice that our mother made make us indebted to her in the entire life.
Our mother hardship continue after our birth. She has to give up her sleep, her time, and her time to care for us and make sure we grow healthily. The importance of mother is Islam, and life in general is very high. Her role irreplaceable and nobody will be able to love as much as our mother does.
1. Highly Honored in the Quran
Islam has stressed the importance of mother through the Holy Quran. It shows how highly honored a mother is in the religion. See also Rights of Mother in Islam
“Worship Allah Almighty and associate nothing with Him, and the neighbor farther away, the companion at your side, the traveler, and those who your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah Almighty does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful.” (4:36)
2. Possessing a Noble Character
Every mother is the best mother for their child. Thus, no mother is a bad person. She possess a noble character. As an example is Mary, Mother of Messiah.
“The Messiah son of Mary, was not but a Messenger; (other) messengers have passed on before him. And his mother was a supporter of truth. They both used to eat food. Look how We make clear them the signs; then look how they are deluded.” (5:75)
3. Obeyed by the Children
What our mother has done to us, we will never be able to pay it with anything. We can only repay her by becoming an obedient child. See also How to Make Your Mother Happy in Islam
“And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age (while) with you, say not to them (so much as), ‘uff’, and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word.And lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy and say, ‘My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up (when I was) small’”. (17:23-24)
4. Holding a Higher Position Than Father
Not that father is less important, but mother has made a sacrifice that a father will never be able to make. Thus, she has a higher position than him.
Messenger of Allah. He said, “You must do good to your mother, then your mother, once your mother, then your father, near and nearest” (Bukhari)

5. Have Heaven Under Her Feet
Our Prophet (peace be upon him) said that Jannah lies under our mother’s feet. It means she is the door for us to enter Jannah, depending on her blessing. See also Importance of Obeying Parents in Islam
The Prophet Muhammad said, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him: “Your Heaven lies under the feet of your mother.” (Ahmad and Nasai)
6. Allah’s Blessing Depends On Hers
It can be said that a mother is Allah’s deputy on Earth. Thus, a mother’s blessing is Allah’s blessing, but her wrath becomes Allah’s wrath as well.
“Allah’s depends on the wisdom of the parents and the wrath of God depends on the wrath of the parents” (Bukhari)
7. Obeying Her is a Good Deed
Our good deed will save us on the Day of Judgement. So that while we live, we must do as many good deeds as we can. One of the dearest good deed for Allah SWT is obeying our mother. See also Rights Of Parents in Islam
“I asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) about the most important and Allah-loving deities? The Prophet (peace be upon him), First prayed in due time (in other narrations mentioned prayers at the beginning of time), both devoted to both parents, the three jihads in the way of Allah Almighty.”(Bukhari and Muslim)

8. An Unpaid Debt to a Mother
The pain our mother felt when giving birth to us will never be equal with anything in this world. It was said in a hadith,
Abdullah bin ‘Umar, he saw a Yemeni man doing Tawaf (around the Ka’ba) carrying his mother on his back. This man said to Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar, “I am like a tame camel for him! I have brought him more than he took me. Do you think I have paid him back, O Ibn’ Umar?” Abdullah Ibn ‘Umar replied, “No, not even a contraction!” (Bukhari)
9. Risking Her Life for Her Child
The sacrifice our mother made is incredible. She was willing to gave up her life for us, bearing pain of laboring child, and later giving up her time to raise her children. See also Importance of Devotion to Parents in Islam
“And We have enjoined upon man (care) for his parents. His mother carried him, (increasing her) in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the (final) destinations.” (31: 14)
10. A Symbol of Love and Sacrifice
Every mother is a symbol of genuine love and huge sacrifice, due to the deeds she has done to her child.
“And (made me) dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant.” (19:32)
11. Genuine Love of a Mother
When a mother gave birth to a child, her heart was full by none other but her child.
“And the heart of Moses’s mother being empty (or all else.) She was about to disclose the matter concerning him.” (28:10)
12. Bring Someone Closer to Allah SWT
Respecting a mother make someone closer to Allah SWT.
“I know there is no other action that brings people closer to God than good treatment and respect for one’s mother.” (Al-Adab Al-Mufrad Bukhari)
Seeing that the importance of mother in Islam is undeniable, we should be respecting and treating our mother with kindness always. She has provided us with love ever since the first day of our lives, so that we must never make her cry or disappointed. Obeying our mother is the fastest way to reach Jannah and blessing of Allah SWT.
