Being kind to parents is an undeniable obligation for every child, whether he’s Muslim or not. Our parents has give their lives and anything they could to raise us. The Holy Quran mentioned about how a child should treat his parents with mercy and goodness.
“…No mother should be harmed through her child, and no father through his child…” (2: 233)
As long as he lives and his parents lives, a Muslim should treat them with nothing but goodness. One way to show our love to them is by obeying our parents at all cost. The importance of obeying parents in Islam shown as the deeds we do to our parents would define our way to Hereafter and Jannah. The one who mistreat his parents and take them for granted got nothing but sufferings and hardships.

1. To Gain the Best Rewards
The rewards gained from obeying the parents are as much as someone who fight on war and hijra. The Prophet (peace be upon him),
Abdullah bin Amr narrated: A man said to the Prophet, “Shall I participate in Jihad?” The Prophet said, “Are your parents living?” The man said, “Yes”. Then the Prophet said, “Do jihad for their benefit.” (Bukhari)

2. As a Gratitude
As we grow older, we come to realize how big the sacrifice our parents has made for us. All the sleepless night when we were infant, the cost of living they have to make up, and many other things. We should show our gratitude by obeying them as nothing we can do to pay them as much as their kindness to us. Our parents won’t be demanding something in return, but they will be very grateful if we obey them.
3. Key to Enter Jannah
Being kind to our parents shorten the way to Jannah. On the other side, if we don’t do good enough to them we will be doomed.
Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (RA), the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“He is doomed, he is doomed, he is doomed.” It was said, “Who, O Messenger of Allaah?” He said, “The person whose parents, one or both of them, reach old age during his lifetime but he does not enter Paradise.” (Muslim)

4. To Gain Allah’s Forgiveness
Allah’s mercy is the best thing we could gain in the world. We have committed too many sins while we live and the only way to erase them is Allah’s forgiveness.
Narrated by Abu Bakr As Shiddiq (RA), “The punishment for all sins, if Allah wills can be suspended until the day of judgement, except the punishment for disobedience of parents – which Allah sends in his lifetime.” (Tibrani and Hakim)

5. Removing the Hardship in Life
Allah’s blessing lies in our parents’ blessing. All of our efforts will be succeed only by their blessing and prayer. Whoever treat their parents with kindness and mercy would never face hardships in life as Allah’s blessing is always with them.

6. To Strengthen the Iman
Having faith in Allah or iman is very important in Islam. Day by day we have to strengthen our iman to be a good Muslim. Improving the faith could be done in many ways, one of them being obedience to parents. More than financial support, our parents need emotional bond with their children more.

7. It’s More Than a Good Deed
The importance of obeying parents in Islam is that is a form of good deed.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“If anyone possesses these three characteristic God will give him an easy death and bring him into His paradise: gentleness towards the weak, affection towards parents, and kindness to slave.”

8. Gaining Allah’s SWT Blessing
If you want your life to be blessed by Allah, then be good to your parents.
Narrated by Hadhrat Abdullah bin Umar, “Allah’s pleasure is in the pleasure of the father, and Allah’s displeasure in in the displeasure of the father.” (Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, and Hakim)
9. It Brings Many Benefits
A dutiful child who always remembering his parents and pray for them while they live or after they died is like a charity for the parents.
“When a person dies, all his deeds, come to an end except three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge (which he has left behind), or a righteous child who will pray for him.” (Tirmidhi)

10. A Way of Repenting from Sins
If you are good to your parents, it is the same with repenting from your sins. Allah’s forgiveness will definitely given to you.
11. Paying Back Their Kindness
As we unable to pay back our parents’ kindness, we have to obey them in return.
“And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.” [Quran 31:14]

12. It’s a Form of Charity
An obedient child is the best charity for parents.
“…My Lord and Sustainer! Be kind and have mercy on them as they cherished, nurtured and sustained me in childhood.” [Quran 17: 24]
13. As an Obligation As a Muslim
Obeying parents is an obligation of a Muslim
‘Abdullaah Ibn Mas’ood, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “I asked the Prophet (peace be upon him) which deed is most liked by Allah? He (peace be upon him) said: ‘Prayer offered on time.’ I asked him: ‘Then what? He (peace be upon him) said: ‘Kindness and respect towards parents.’…”
So those are all the importance of obeying parents in Islam. Our parents represent Allah in the world, so that their rage becomes Allah’s rage and their blessing is Allah’s blessing as well. Do good to our parents before we regret it someday. Nothing in the world is better than looking at the smile on our parent’s face.
