Installing braces on teeth is one of the popular trends that loved by young people nowadays. This braces is a kind of wire attached to the tooth. It’s aim is for tidying up the teeth so that the appearance looks more beautiful. In the medical world, braces is known as orthodontic.
Well, one thing that is often be a question for Muslims is how does the law of bracing up teeth according to Islam? Surely you do not want it when using something that is prohibited by religion? Therefore, it is very important to learn the law of braces in Islam. Is it halal (allowed) or haram (forbidden)? And what are the limitations? Here’s the full review!
The law of using braces in Islam actually depends on its purpose. Whether for health reasons or just to beautify the appearance. If the use of stirrup or braces is done solely to beautify the appearance then the law for it is forbidden by Islam. See also : tips for saving money in Ramadhan
“Allah SWT has cursed those who made tattoos and people who made the tattoos, the ones who pulled the eyelashes, the ones who asked for their eyelashes, and those who stretched the teeth for a beauty that changed the creation of Allah.” (Hadith narrated by Muslim)
From the above verse, what mean to be loosen teeth is to provide a distance between the front teeth with molars. This is often done by women of antiquity for younger appearance. Since usually the older a person is than their teeth gap are more closely.
Thus, women of antiquity will stretch their teeth at the time when they are about to be proposed by men. Of course this action is haram in the view of Allah Ta’ala, since it is equal with deceit and change the creation of Allah Subhanallah Ta’ala. See also : importance of positive thinking
In Al-Qur’an also explained that physical change is a misguided act that is hated by Allah Ta’ala.
“They call upon instead of Him non but female (deities), and they (actually) call upon none but a rebellious Satan. Whom Allah has cursed. For he had said, ‘I will surely take from among Your servants a specific portion.
And I will mislead them, and I will arouse in them (sinful) desires, and I will command them so they will slit the ears of cattle, and I will command them so they will change the creation of Allah. ‘And whoever takes Satan as an ally of Allah has certainly sustained a clear loss.” (QS. An-Nisa : 117-119)
By referring to the above two postulates (Al-Quran and Al-hadist), scholars agree that the law of wearing braces is haram (prohibited). This law applies if the use of braces is done solely to enhance the appearance. If the teeth are still within reasonable limits, in the sense of no defects and do not cause fear then the use of braces is prhobited or forbidden.
The point is for no apparent reason using braces is same as changing the creation of Allah Ta’ala. As with plastic surgery, tattoos and eyebrow shavings.
These deeds are the satan’s persuasion and hated by Allah Ta’ala. Because it shows that we can not be grateful or kufr of His favors. So the law was clearly prohibited by religion. See also : benefit of talking less in Islam
Not always wearing braces is considered haram. If it is done on a clear purposes, for example because of medical purposes.
Where the patient’s dental condition was messy and interferes with the eating process, or there may be bacterial infections, holes or the like.
Then it is allowed to put a braces for health. The act is considered as a treatment process so the law is mubah (allowed). [AdSense-A]
As the saheeh hadith narrated by ‘Abdurrahman bin Tharfah. He explained that his grandfather, ‘Arjafah bin As’ad radhiallahu’anhu said:
“My nose was cut off in the Kullab War in the days of ignorance. I replaced it with a leaf, but the leaf was smelly to bother me. Then Rasulullah shalallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam told me to replace it with a golden artificial nose.” (Hadith narrated by Tirmidhi, An-Nasai, and Abu Dawud)
And also based on the following hadith:
“O the servants of Allah, repent indeed Allah does not create a disease but to create a medicine for it except for this one disease. ‘They asked, ‘What is that disease, O Messenger of Allah? “He replied:” That is an old disease (dementia).” (Hadith narrated by Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and Ahmad)
Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen also classified the law using stir in Islam into two categories. See also : the law of insulting women purdah in Islam
First, haram if done with the aim to add beauty, arranging teeth to look more beautiful. So this includes changing the creation of Allah Ta’ala. And Allah cursed the woman who arranged her teeth for the sake of aesthetic affairs alone. Likewise with men is also not allowed.
Secondly, it is permissible (allowed) when the tooth is in a defective condition so that a person who sees it is afraid or feel sick. Then this includes as treating disability or removing disgrace, so it is permissible (allowed).
Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam said :
“Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says, “Verily I create My servants in a state of righteousness, then come unto them the shaytings that mislead them from their religion and forbid of them what I do for them.” (Hadith narrated by Muslim)
Basically, the human nature is easy to kurf on favors and always feels lacking. That is why they tend not to stop to change the creation of Allah Ta’ala.
Call it, one of them wearing braces for beauty reasons. Know that the act is a Satanic impulse. And really, hated by Allah Ta’ala. For just as we are not grateful for the gift of Allah.
Allah Subhanallah Ta’ala said in this below verse :
“So direct your face toward the religion, inclining to truth (Adhere to) the fitrah of Allah upon which He has created (all) people. No change should there be in the creation of Allah. That is the correct religion, but most of the people do not know.” (QS. Ar-Rum : 30)
There are ways for us to get ridho within ourselves, among others are :
1. Look up to the people below us
The first way is not to constantly look up. Remember the saying “the grass of the neighbors must be greener.”
And so, if we keep looking at others then we tend to be jealous. Other people’s lives seem to be more beautiful, whereas our self seems most miserable.
From now on stop doing so. Occasionally look at the people below. For example, beggars, people who may have physical imperfections or people who live in a land of war.
Just think, is not our life easier than them? So be grateful. See also : tips of ramadhan fasting for breastfeeding mom
2. Increasing our faith
Keeping faith is very important for us to not carried by the flow of globalization, for example is beautify themselves through a method that is forbidden Islam. Why be beautiful if not be blessed by Allah Ta’ala? Why make beautiful but if accumulating sin?
Beautiful in the eyes of man is only temporary. Rather than tired-tired looking for praise from humans, we better increase the faith and piety as stock in the hereafter and to be more loved by Allah Ta’ala.
3. Life is only temporary
The third way, simply by remembering that life is temporary alias mortal. What’s up for something that’s not lasting?
Can not be brought to our grave? And can not help us in an afterlife? Whatever there is in this life is sure to be lost. So do not love the world even to be a slave to the world. Naudzubillah mindzalik.
4. Patient
The next is through patience. Believe that people bring temptation there must be a wisdom. And for those who are able to be patient then Allah will reward them with the greatest in the Hereafter.
“…And (those who) are patient in poverty and hardship and during battle. Those are the ones who have been true, and it is those who are the righteous.” (QS. Al-Baqarah : 177)
“Those will be awarded the Chamber for what they patiently endured, and they will be received therein with greetings and (words of) peace.” (QS. Al-Furqan : 75)
Thus the explanation of the law using braces in Islam and the tips so that we become someone who is happy and sincere about what we have. Hopefully it will be useful and be a help.
