Among Muslim society, the rule of fasting within what should they follow and avoid is already taught since they were young such as the things that invalidate Salah. That makes the rules will be easier to apply once they become an adult.

Doing fasting regularly or during Ramadan month is not easy, but the way Muslims do that involuntarily with pious hearts will make Ramadan fasting easier. not only for adults but children as well.

1. Eating and Drinking

Eating and drinking intentionally become the habit of things that invalidate fasting. Muslims know better about this issue so that they would avoid eating and drinking during fasting time. This becomes the easier way of Islamic parenting in how to teach your children about fasting.

Muslims are already knowledgeable about the fact that during fasting time they are only allowed to eat at night up until dawn time. As it mentions in the Quran surah Al Baqarah verse 187 below.

“Eat and drink until it becomes clear to you (the difference) between the white thread and the black thread, namely dawn.” (QS 2:187)

2. Menstruation

Menstruation for women becomes one of the things that invalidate fasting. Such as during the period time for women is unlawfully to take a five-day prayer, which also will be invalid for fasting.

The Islamic rule about menstruation is unlawful and invalidating fasting is not only comes from the mouth by mouth but also already written in the Quran. Meanwhile, during the Ramadhan time, women can pay back their fasting outside the Ramadhan time.

It’s already mentioned on the Quran surah Al Baqarah verse 184 below.

“(That is) certain days. So whoever of you is sick or on a journey (then does not fast), then (must replace) as many days (which he did not fast) on other days. And for people who are hard to run, must pay Fidyah, which is to feed a poor person. But whoever voluntarily does good, it is better for him, and your fasting is better for you if you know.” (QS 2:184)

3. Sexual Intercourse

Sexual intercourse becomes one of the things that invalidate fasting. Moreover, if Muslims do that during the day. The act represents the behavior that should be held during fasting.

That is why, if Muslims do some sexual intercourse during the day of fasting intentionally, their most types of fasting in Islam will be invalid. It’s already mentioned in the Quran surah Al Baqarah verse 187.

It is lawful for you at night to fast mix with your wife. They are clothes for you, and you are clothes for them. Allah knows that you cannot restrain yourself, but He accepts your repentance and forgives you. So now intervene with them and seek what Allah has ordained for you,“(QS 2:187)

4. Vomiting Intentionally

Vomiting intentionally becomes one of the things that invalidate fasting. Vomiting will cause the body to have a lower strength. Moreover, if it’s intentionally done by Muslims during fasting.

That is why it is better to avoid vomiting intentionally. It will make the throat sick and cause more trouble in the future. It will cause Muslims to get far away from Allah’s blessing such as some benefits and virtues of fasting.

The Islamic rules about this are also written in the Quran surah AL Baqarah verse 183.

“O you who believe! Fasting has been made obligatory on you as it was prescribed for those before you so that you may become pious.” (QS 2:183)

5. Post-Natal Bleeding

Post-natal bleeding becomes one of the things that invalidate fasting. Such as menstruation, postnatal bleeding will make women lower their strength. Moreover, they also should feed breast their baby which needs more strength.

During postnatal bleeding, if a woman takes fasting it will be invalid. Instead of fasting, women are allowed to replace or pay back the fasting on the other days. Just remember the amount of the fasting that they missed, which should be replaced in the same right amount.

It’s mentioned in the Quran surah Al Baqarah verse 185.

And whoever is sick or on a journey (he does not fast), then (must make up for it), as many days as he has left, on other days. Allah wants ease for you and does not want difficulty for you. You should suffice the number and glorify Allah for His guidance given to you so that you will be grateful.” (QS 2:185)

So, there are some of the things that invalidate fasting for Muslims that should be aware of. May Allah give His blessing and mercy during your fasting.
