Marriage considered as one of the most scared ritual in Islam. It’s an event that uniting tow people under the legal contract to the country and to Allah SWT. This is mentioned in the Holy Quran, as Allah has said:
“And marry those among you who are single and those who are fit among your male slaves and your female slaves; if they are needy, Allah will make them free from want out of His grace; and Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing.” – Surah An-Nur (24:32)
Not only a religious duty for Muslim, marriage served as safeguard for the morals of young people. In social purpose, marriage is a way to expand the family. Marriage in Islam surely has certain rules and condition which are different from other religion.
1. Marriage Happen Under the Agreement of the Bride and Groom
In Islam and other religions, the main condition for marriage is a man as the groom and a woman as the bride. However, a marriage cannot happen just like that. Both have to agree to the marriage and willingly doing so. As marriage is considered sacred, it must be done carefully.
2. Both Have the Right for Divorce
No one wished their marriage to be ended wiTh divorce. Neither Allah and the Prophet is fond of marriage as well. But someone must prepare for the worst. Husband and wife have equal rights to filed for divorce when they want to end the marriage for some reason. The point about divorce could be added in the pre-martial contract or the Nikah Nama.

3. Marriage is Sunnah in Islam
The Sharia Law about marriage is Sunnah in general. It means when a Muslim decide not to get married, it is not a sin. But since it is a Sunnah, doing it will be better because Allah SWT also loves marriage. Allah bless every Muslim for tying the sacred knots.
4. Marriage Cannot be Forced
As mentioned above, agreement from the bride and groom is inportant in order for the marriage to happen. Nobody should be forced to get married, as the forced marriage is haraam in Islam. Even parents are not allowed to force their children, unless they get married on their own free will.

5. Mahr Can be Paid Anytime
Mahr is a cost that a man should pay upon marrying a woman. The Mahr was decided before the marriage. However, it can be paid at any time during the marriage, except the time when they divorce. Mahr is like a debt for a man that he must pay under any condition. A woman should ask for Mahr which the man is capable to fulfill. [AdSense-B]
6. Dowry is Not Allowed
Islam knows Mahr, not dowry. Moreover, rather than material thing, Mahr is something sacred in the marriage. The dowry is not allowed in Islam. Especially luxurious things as car, house, or jewelry. It’s not the part of Islamis marriage and never considered as something important in Islam.

7. Marriage with Other Religion is Not Allowed
The inter religion marriage is a thing that strictly forbidden in Islam. One purpose of marriage is as the continuity of Islam. Marrying someone who has other belief is considered violating the Sharia law.
8. A Man Should be Able to Provide the Wife
In th marriage, the husband and wife have their own respective obligations. A man should be able to provide the needs of the wife. Clothing, food, and house are the physical needs. The sexual and psychological needs like affection, love, and support should also be provide by the husband.

9. Walimah is Also Sunnah
Walimah is a wedding celebration in Islamic marriage. As one of the important part, a newly wedded Islamic couple should held the walimah. The purpose of walimah is to share the happiness of the family for the union of two souls.
It’s also to inform other people that two people has married, so when they were seen holding hands on the street, no one will be misunderstand it. The celebration should be simple and tailored to the ability to what the family can afford.

10. Islam Encourages Muslim to Get Married
In Islam, marriage considered as half of the religion. As narrated by Al Haakim from Anas Ibn Malik, ” Whomever Allah blesses with a righteous wife, He has helped him with half of his religion, so let him fear Allah in regards to the other half.”
Marriage is also a shield for young people to protect their sexual desires. Narrated Abdullah: We were with the Prophet (SAW) while we were young and had no wealth whatever. So Allah’s Messenger said,
“O young people! Whoever among you can marry, should marry, because it helps him lower his gaze and guard his modesty, and whoever is not able to marry, should fast, as fasting diminishes his sexual power.” – Bukhari.

For young Muslims who is going to get married, all the things to know about marriage in Islam is important. Marriage is not only a union between two souls, but also the union for two families. Which made the life after marriage is different than living as single.
