15 Virtues of Good Manners in Islam

We often hear a wise saying “Being a good person but being a good person is more important”, the person we think is good is not necessarily good in others, so many people we consider less good can be good in others.

Prophet Muhammad alone as the best man in the world, if there is a better word than polite then cleanse our prophet.

But what happens, there are those who say forcibly as a liar, a sorcerer, a mad poet, a man who comes out of the teachings of his ancestors and even driven from his hometown and get threats from his disobedient people.

To Allah Almighty it is easy to grant His mercy to whomever He wishes, especially to those fighters of goodness, this is all because His grace is so vast for His servants who are fond of goodness and change towards which is more meaningful in accordance with the content of the content of the Qur’an that Allah Ta’ala made in some verses.

  1. Do Good to Parents

Doing good to the elderly is a practice of virtue advocated in the religion of Islam.

Among the verses of the Qur’an and his explanation that enjoin Muslims to do good and serve their parents is as follows,

و اعبدوا الله و لا تشركوا به شيئا و بالوالدين إحسانا و بذى القربى و اليتامى و المساكين و الجار ذى القربى و الجار الجنب و الصاحب بالجنب و ابن السبيل و ما ملكت أيمانكم إن الله لا يحب من كان مختالا فخورا

“And worship you to God, and associate not with him anything. Do good to two parents, relatives, orphans, poor people, close neighbors and distant neighbors and colleagues, Ibn Sabil and servant your sahaya. Allah does not love those who are proud and proud”. [QS an-Nisa ‘/ 4: 36].

  1. Tolerance

The nature of tolerance to all differences in social life is one form of good deeds that we can do as they relate to everyday life.

قل ياأيها الكافرون # ولا أنتم عابدون ما اعبد # ولا أنا عابد ما عبدتم # ولا أنتم عابدون ما اعبد # لكم دينكم ولي دين

O disbelievers. I will not worship what you worship. And you are not a worshiper of God whom I worship. And I have never been a worshiper of what you worship. And you have never been a worshiper of God whom I worship. For you your religion, and for me, my religion”. (Q.S. al-Kafirun: 1-6).

  1. Forgive Each Other

Sometimes it is difficult for us to forgive someone who has made a mistake that we think can not be forgiven. إن الله لا يغفر أن يشرك به ويغفر ما دون ذلك لمن يشاإ

“Verily, the Lord will not forgive the sin of shirk, and He forgives all other sins (shirk), for whom He will do it.” (Surah An Nisa: 48 and 116).

  1. Keep The Commandments of God

Keeping God’s commandments and avoiding his prohibitions is a form of good deeds we can do. By staying close to God, we can easily be instructed to find a way out when in trouble.

Rasulullah shallallahu alaihi wa sallam in his khutbah said:

أيها الناس, قد فرض الله عليكم الحج فحجوا. فقال رجل: أكل عام, يا رسول الله? فسكت. حتى قالها ثلاثا. فقال رسول الله : لو قلت: نعم لوجبت ولما استطعتم. ثم قال: ذروني ما تركتكم, فإنما هلك من كان قبلكم بكثرة سؤالهم واختلافهم على أنبيائهم, فإذا أمرتكم بشيء فأتوا منه ما استطعتم, وإذا نهيتكم عن شيء فدعوه.

“O mankind, verily Allah has obliged the Hajj to you, so have mercy”. Someone said, “Is it every year, O Messenger of God?” So he kept silent until he repeated it three times, then the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said, “If I say yes, it will be obligatory, and you will not be able to,” and then he said, “Leave me to what I leave it to you. Indeed the people before you perish because of their question and their opposition to their prophets. If I order something to you, do as much as you can. And if I forbid you, leave it “. [2]

  1. Not Gossiping

A person’s habit of gossiping is a bad deed. Tap from gossip can become a grant and bad appears slander. Because slander is worse than murder.

The verse that speaks of “the more cruel slander of murder” is,

واقتلوهم حيث ثقفتموهم وأخرجوهم من حيث أخرجوكم والفتنة أشد من القتل ولا تقاتلوهم عند المسجد الحرام حتى يقاتلوكم فيه فإن قاتلوكم فاقتلوهم كذلك جزاء الكافرين

And slay them wherever you find them, and drive them out from where they have driven you (Mecca); and the slander is greater the danger of murder, and do not fight them in the Grand Mosque unless they fight you in that place. If they fight you (in that place), then kill them. So reward the disbelievers. “(Surat Al-Baqarah : 191)

  1. Giving Charity

mutual giving to fellow human beings is one form of commendable deeds that can help us to add a good reward.

وأنفقوا في سبيل الله ولا التهلكة

“And spend (your treasures) in the way of Allah, and do not throw yourself into destruction, and do good, for Allah loves those who do good”.(Surah Al-Baqarah : 195)

  1. Keep The Word Spoken

Good and polite speech is one form of good deeds taught in Islam. In speaking we also need to pay attention to the condition and state of the other person. Lest we offend the other person’s feelings or wrong words.

  1. Visiting a Sick Neighbor

It is not good for a moslem to let his neighbor go hungry or not visit him when he is ill.

Rasulullah sallallaahu’alaihi wasallam said:

من كان يؤمن بالله واليوم الآخر فليكرم جاره

“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should he honor his neighbor” (Narrated by Bukhari 5589, Muslim 70)

  1. Not Splurging

Islam teaches to live simple and not exaggeration, because Allah Subhanahu wa ta’ala does not like the exaggeration. Simple living with simple dress, simple attitude, simple talk and lifestyle is a simple life.

Wasting time is a wasteful attitude that can have a negative impact on us. As much as possible to be able to manage the time in such a way as to be able to carry out all the affairs smoothly.
