Studying is a lifetime process, ever since a man was born until the day he died. Human are full of curiosity and it will make him never cease to learn. Thus, the importance f study in Islam is very high. Studying is also a culture in Islam that should not be abandoned. As we know, Islam has contributed in modern science from the verses in Quran to many of the research and invention made by Muslim scholars.
Islam ia a religion with advanced knowledge. As we know, many modern science and technology has revealed since a long time ago inside the Holy Quran. It shows how Islam see knowledge and studying as important things.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said,
“Whoever want to get success in the world he is required to master all of science, and whoever want to get happiness in the Hereafter, he is required to master all of science, and whoever want to get success and happiness both of them, he is also required to master all of science.”
Here are more of the importance of study in Islam:
1. Obligation for All Muslims
Muslims are created in to this world with many mission: spreading Islam, worshiping Allah SWT, and studying. As studying is one of the obligation, it becomes important to do. Al Quran and Hadith has mentioned the importance of study in Islam many times. As the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“Seeking Knowledge is an obligation on every Muslim.” (Ahmed)

2. To Gain Knowledge
Study was made obligation by Allah SWT so that human won’t only be seeking wealth and property in the world. Allah has mentioned in the Quran that he wants his servants to ask him for knowledge.
“And say: My Lord, increase me in knowledge.” (Qur’an 20:114)
It is clear that a man’s mission is to study and later using the knowledge we gain for good. Sharing knowledge to others can be the deeds that linger forever ever after we died.
3. Ease the Way to Heaven
Not only good deeds, studying diligently could also take us to Jannah. How could this be? When we share a beneficial knowledge that used forever or being passed on to other people, we can gain rewards after our death. As the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“Whoever follows a path in pursuit of knowledge, Allah makes his way easy to paradise.” (Bukhari)

4. Way to be Humble
The more a person study, the more knowledge he gets. Human will realize that they are very tiny in this big universe, which should make them more humble.
“It is only those who have knowledge among His servants that fear Allah.” (Qur’an 35:28)

5. Blessed by the Angels
Someone who likes study and doing his best to it will be blessed not only by Allah and the Prophet, but also by the Angels.
As narrated by Ahmad, Ibn Hibban and Al Hakim, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“Indeed angles spread their wings to the seekers of knowledge, as a ridha sign with their efforts.”

6. Studying is Better Than the World
Among all the goodness in the world, one of them being seeking knowledge or someone who study. It even better than world and all of its content.
As narrated by Ibn Hibban, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“The quality of someone who study one chapter from a science is still better than the world and its contents.”
7. Attain Rewards from Allah SWT
Seeking for Allah’s bless and gain the rewards are the best goodness anyone can have. The key to open the door of bless and rewards lie on study and seeking for knowledge.
As narrated by Ibn Nu’aim, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,
“Science likes a warehouse, while the lock opener is asking. Indeed, there are rewards for four groups, they are people who ask, people who answer, people who hear and people who love the condition of them.”

8. Equal As Prayer
Who said that prayer and reciting Quran are the only way to worship Allah. There is one deed that even better than praying a hundred rakaat: when someone study a chapter of science. That is the importance of study in Islam that it is equal and even better in some ways than prayer itself.
9. Studying is Jihad
Indeed, Allah never makes it difficult for His servants to commit good deeds.
Mu’adz bin Jabal radhiyallahu ‘anhu said,
“Study (about Islam) because if you study it, there is a goodness for you. Finding knowledge is a worship. Remembering each other about science is tasbih. Discussing a science is jihad. Teaching science to others is sadaqah. Spending spirit to study from the master is a qurbah (close to Allah SWT).”

10. As Gift from Allah
One of the greatest gift from Allah SWT is the knowledge itself. Don’t take it for granted by leaving it in vain. Gain the knowledge and study.
“Allah will exalt those who believe among you, and those who have been granted knowledge to high ranks.” (Qur’an 58:11)
11. Understand Allah’s Greatness
The one who fear Allah the most are those who have a high knowledge.
“It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allâh” (35:28)
