12 Benefits of Planting a Tree in Islam

“And He is the One Who has made you vicegerents in the earth and exalted some of you over others in ranks, so that He may test you by means of (things) which He has bestowed upon you (as a trust).” (6:165)

Trees is one of the most important thing in the world. It sustains the living of human being an animals as a provider for oxygen, which is needed by everyone. Thus makes the benefits of planting a tree in Islam is very high.

Here are all the benefits of planting a tree in Islam that everyone should know.

1. An Act of Charity

Planting a tree is similar with doing charity, especially when other living being take advantage of it.

Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said, “There is none amongst the Muslims who plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person or an animal eats from it, but is regarded as a charitable gift for him.” (Bukhari)

2. As a Source of Food

The fruit of a tree provide life for those who eat it. Name it human or animals, tree can be a good source of natural and unprocessed food for anyone.

As narrated Rafi’ bin ‘Amr, the Prophet said,

“I was throwing stones at a date-palm belonging to some of the Ansar. They tool me along with them to the Prophet. He said: “O Rafi’! Why were you throwing stones at their date-palm?'” He said: “I said: ‘Out of hunger, O Messenger of Allah! He said: ‘Do not throw stones at them, eat what falls. May Allah fill you and quench your thirst.'” (Tirmidhi)

3. Supporting the Economy

We need oxygen to breathe and letting out carbon dioxide. The latter is highly dangerous to be inhaled. But trees absorbs carbon dioxide and convert it into a healthy oxygen for us to breathe.

Without the trees, wild animals probably unable to survive. Trees are home, shelter, and protector for them. The more trees there are, the more flora and fauna lives created in the wild. These tissues remove saps from the root and trapping the harmful bacteria. It works just the same with unclean water. As trees purifying the air, it provides more oxygen and cleanlier air for human to breathe. As you know, more than 7 million deaths a year are caused by the air pollution.

It is important to plant a tree near the house, in the yard for that matters. Plant a shady tree that protects for direct sunlight and can be used as shelter from the heat. A house that is shadowed by a tree is 6 to 100 degrees cooler than the street temperature.
