17 Benefits of Praying Fajr in the Mosque

Every muslim knows the benefits of praying in the mosque, especially the Fajr prayer. However, not every muslim can perform all the five obligatory Salat in the mosque, especially the Fajr prayer as it very early in the dawn. There are a lot of benefits you can gain by performing the Fajr prayer in the mosque. Here are some of the benefits that would motivate you:

1. Praying in congregation is better than praying alone

Praying Fajr in the mosque means that you are not praying alone. Allah loves it when you pray together with your brothers in congregation, worshiping Him together. Praying Fajr in congregation bring many benefits, as the Prophet (Peace be upon Him) said in a hadeeth:

“Prayer in congregation is superior to prayer alone by twenty seven degrees.” – Bukhari & Muslim, from Ibn Umar R.A.

Allah bless and shower those who praying Fajr in the mosque with rewards.

2. As a proof of faith

Even it seems simple, going to the mosque for a prayer is something not every muslim can do. Allah indeed has promised bless and reward for the mosque prayer, but not everyone capable to do it. To be able to pray in the mosque, we have to stop whatever we are doing at the moment. People who are attending the Fajr prayer in the mosque prove their faith to Allah, and how much they want to get close to Him. The Prophet (PBUH) once said,

“When you see a man frequenting the mosque, testify that he is a believer because Allah says: ‘Allah’s mosques are visited only by those who believe in Allah and the Last Day.” – At Tirmidhi.

3. Every steps you take elevates you to Jannah

Those who walked from home to mosque for the Fajr prayer will got their rank elevated closer to Jannah. As told by Abu Hurairah (RA), The Prophet (PBUH) said,

“He who purifies (Wudu’) himself in his house and then walks to one of the houses of Allah (mosque) for performing an obligatory Salat, one step of his will wipe his sins and another steps will elevate his rank (in Jannah).” – Muslim.

4. The one who lives far from the mosque will be given the best reward

As reported by Abu Musa, the Prophet (Peace upon Him) said, “The person who will receive the highest reward for Salat (prayer) is the one who comes to perform in the mosque from the farthest distance, and he who waits for Salat to perform with the Imam (in congregation) will have a greater reward than the one who observes it alone and then goes to sleep.” – Bukhari & Muslim.

5. Fostering unity between Muslim

One of the benefits of praying Fajr in the mosque is to interact with other Muslim. By the interaction we make some new friends and will be able to help our brothers in need. Muslims will be more united in worshiping Allah, and growing much stronger love to their Creator.

6. Those who goes to the mosque for Fajr and Isha prayer will be conveyed by glad tidings

The two hardest prayers for Muslim that the hypocrite can’t do is Fajr and Isha prayer. The Prophet (PBUH) said, “There is no prayer heavier on the hypocrites than Fajr and Isha. If only they knew what’s in the, they would come to them even if they had to crawl.”

And, “Convey glad tidings to those who walk to the mosque in the darkness. For they will be given full light on the Day of Resurrection.” – At-Tirmidhi & Abu Dawud.

7. They will be guaranteed in Jannah

Jannah will be given to those who attend the congregations prayer in the morning and evening, as reported by Abu Hurairah (RA): The Prophet (PBUH) said, “He who goes to the mosque in the morning or in the evening, Allah prepares him a place in Jannag whenever he goes to the mosque in the morning and returns from it in the evening.” – Bukhari & Muskim.

8. Following the Prophet’s (PBUH) sunnah

The Prophet (PBUH) said that the obligatory prayers is like five pillars in Islam. He said that those who goes to the mosque for Fajr prayer will distinguished themselves from the disbeliever. Performing the Fajr prayer according to the Prophet (PBUH) is the essential part of our faith in Allah.

14. Benefits from the angels of Allah

In Islam, there are two angels who always accompany a human everyday until that human dies. The angels take two shifts a day, and each ascend to the Lord every times of Fajr and Asr. Allah will give His greatest blessing to whoever witnessing this moment by performing Salat in the mosque.

As the Prophet said, “There are angels who take turns in visiting you by night and by day, and they all assemble at the dawn (Fajr) and the afternoon (Asr) prayers. Those who have spent the night with you ascend to the Heaven and their Lord, Who knows better about them, yet asks, ‘In what condition did you leave My servants?’ They reply, ‘We left them while they were performing salah and we went to them while they were performing salah.’” – Bukhari & Muslim.

15. Fajr prayer is the most valuable

Among the five obligatory prayer in Islam, the earliest prayer in the morning, Fajr, is indeed the most valuable. As cited in the Holy Quran:

“Establish the Prayer after the declining of the sun to the dusk of night, and the recitation of Fajr. Indeed, the recitation of Fajr is witnessed.” – Surah Al-Isra’ (17:78)

Those who witnessed the prayer is the angels who about to take turn in accompanying human being, and they will bring the good news to Allah SWT.

16.  Fajr prayer has the best thing better than the whole world

Performing Fajr prayer in the mosque means you have to reduce the time of your sleep to make it on time. But Allah promised an equal reward for His believer. Two sunnah cycles preceeding the Fajr prayer is better than the whole world, as said by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH),

“The two sunnah cycles of prayer preceding Fajr prayer are better than this world and all that it contains.” – Ahamd, Muslim, Tirmidhi, Nasa’i.

17. Fajr prayer keeps you far from Hell

Fajr prayer is the most valuable prayer in Islam, and the performer will be rewarded by the most valuable gift as well. For those who wake up from their sleep and taking steps towards the mosque to perform Fajr prayer in congregation will be far from the Hell.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Whoever performs the prayer before the rising of the sun and the prayer before its setting will not enter hell.” – Muslim.

So those are the benefits of Fajr prayer in the mosque in Islam. Even though Fajr prayer is the most valuable, every prayer is equally important.
