12 Hidden Benefits or Marrying a Widow in Islam

Marriage is an important event in life that someone will be going through when he is at the rights age and financially capable. There are many issues regarding marriage, one of them being the status of a woman you’re going to marry. As everyone knows, we can’t choose to whom we’re falling in love. So that you can’t help it but sincerely falling in love to a widow and willing to marry her.

However, the society has an extreme view of a widow because she has no husband by her side. Marrying a widow brings certain responsibility, especially when she already has children from the previous marriage.

Then again, widow and their children (in this case are orphans) has a special place in Islam that whoever take care of them will be granted with tremendous rewards. It is many of the benefits of marrying a widow in Islam. Never mind about the social status because the Prophet himself married widow to take care of them and their children.

Here are some of the benefits of marrying a widow in Islam:

1. Fulfilling Half of the Religion

2. Spending the Whole Night and Day Worshiping

“One who cares for widows and the poor is like those who fight in the way of Allah or those who spend their days fasting and their nights praying.” (Bukhari)

3. Taking Care of the Orphans

“I and the caretaker of the orphan will enter Paradise together like this, raising (by way of illustration) his forefinger and middle finger jointly, leaving no space in between.” (Bukhari)

4. Committing a Good Deed

Reported by Abu Hurayra (RA), the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“One who cares for widows and the poor is like those who fight in the way of Allah or those who spend their days fasting and their nights praying.” (Bukhari)

5. Fulfilling the Rights of a Widow

Widow is very special in Islam. She has certain rights to be fulfilled such as being protected and the right to get remarried again. Whoever doesn’t fulfill the widow’s right committing a sin. 6. Fulfilling the Rights of the Orphan

Not only fulfilling the rights of a widow, but a man should fulfill the orphan’s right. Double the responsibility means double the rewards. Allah SWT has also written inside the Quran,

“And they feed, for the love of Allah, the poor, the orphan, and the captive…” [76:8]

7. Following the Steps of the Prophet

8. Lighten the Burden of a Widow

Being a widow must be very hard. She has to figure out how to make a living, especially when the wealth his late husband leave is not much. More Things on Marrying a Widow in Islam

Widow has certain rights in Islam, and among them is the right to get remarried again. Thus, when a widow get remarried, her husband should know some important things below before officially make her his wife.

  • Love Her Children Like Your Own

If a widow has orphan children from the previous marriage, then the man who is going to marry her should fulfill the rights of the orphan children as well. He must love them sincerely and take them as his own children. Even if later he has children of his own, he shouldn’t treat them any different.

  • Marry Her After the Iddah Period

A widow should stay at home for 3 months after her husband died. It’s called the period of iddah. A widow could get remarried again once the period is over.

  •  Treat Her with Kindness

For she is about to be your wife, you have to treat them with kindness and caress them with love. Thus the marriage will be blessed and insya Allah lasted until Jannah.

  • Suffice All Her Needs

Make sure the widow isn’t short of anything after she gets married to you. You have to be financially settled first before marrying a widow since her children later will also be under your responsibility.

Turns out there are many benefits of marrying a widow in Islam. It considered as doing good deeds, moreover if the widow has orphan children. As long as the widow is a decent woman, she may brings you closer to Jannah.
