Have you ever traveling or going to somewhere and it has much time, we drive a car or riding motors even that we can do a journey with planes or ship and that makes our journey faster, right. In Rasulullah’s era, the journey takes by on foot or riding horse or camel. Days after days until months, Rasulullah takes a long journey to spread Allah’s religion, Islam. Before we do a journey below this, there is Sunnah that we can do before we take a long journey, tomorrow. This is the Sunnah of Hadith before we take a long journey.

Before we taking on the long journey, we should recite Dua Istikhara and dua when you leave home, like below two of this dua :
Do an Istikhara’s prayers before you go on your journey. Our Prophet SAW peace and blessings of Allah be upon him used to teach his companions to make Istikhara in all things even before taking on the journey. Take two rak’ah of salat and recite this dua :“O, Allah! Behold I ask You the good through Your Knowledge, and ability through Your Power, and beg (Your favor) out of Your infinite Bounty. For surely You have Power; I have none. You know all; I know not. You are the Great Knower of all things. O, Allah! If in Your Knowledge this matter is good for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then ordain it for me, and make it easy for me, and bless me therein. But if in Your Knowledge, this matter is bad for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then turn it away from me, and turn me away therefrom, and ordain for me the good wherever it be, and cause me to be pleased therewith.”
You must recite this when you leaving your home and did this before you take a length of your journey. May Allah blessed you every your steps and it will begin when you are leaving your home.“Bismillahi tawakkaltu ‘alallah, wa laa haula wa laa quwwata billah. Allahumma inniy a’uudzu bika an adilla au udlalla, au azilla au uzalla, au adzlima au udzlima, au ajhala au yujhala’alayya.”
“In the name of Allah, I place my trust in Allah, and there is neither might nor power except with Allah. O, Allah, I seek refuge with You from leading others astray, causing others to slip or being caused to slip by others, doing wrong or being wronged by others, or behaving foolishly or being treated foolishly by others.”
These are 17 Dua for Journey in Islam, that our Prophet Muhammad SAW told us, please to keep remembered in our mind and practice it while we want to begin a journey (which they are a long journey or not). Please pick these ones (dua) to protect you away from any bad events. May Allah ta’ala always protect us wherever we are us Muslims.
1. Dua Before Taking on Journey
This dua is what our Prophet Muhammad SAW used to say before his taking on the journey.”All praise and thanks be to Allah, Who has subjected this to us when we could never have it by our own efforts and verily. tp our Lord we shall return.” (Zaad Al Maad by Ibn Al-Qayyim)

2. Dua for Beginning the Journey
Before you begin a journey, you must prepare well for the things that you want to bring. Check it once before you go and said “Bismillahirrahmaanirrahiim” and then recite this dua when you begin or starting the journey, that Allah will protect you from any dangerous will happen to you.
“O, Allah we seek goodness from you and piety from this journey and (the ability to do) good actions by which You are pleased. O, Allah eases this journey for us and make us transverse the road quickly. O, Allah, You are our companion in this journey and deputy (guardian) over our household whom we left behind. O, Allah, I seek refuge in You from the difficulties of the journey and from seeing bad things and from a bad return at home and household and from the dua of the oppressed.”
3. Dua for another person undertaken a journey
If you see someone who is he or she your husband, brothers, also the neighbor who is the person take a journey you must recite this for their safe journey, May Allah protect them in their journey.
“May Allah make piety part of your journey, forgive your sins and fulfill the purpose of the journey.” (Tirmidhi)
4. Dua by the traveler for the wishing him farewell
As the family or brothers even neighbor who is see the traveler and he wants to continue his journey and he says for goodbye, we as Muslim recommend to wishing him good while farewell. May Allah protects you, brother, have a nice trip.
“I leave your response to Allah (leave you in his hands) in whose protection nothing can be lost (destroyed, damaged) when He protects.” (Hisnul Hasin)

5. Dua while journey on the night
When the night comes and it’s dark, you may recite this dua while journeying on the night. Allah will keep you safe and also you can recite Al-Fatihah and Ayah Kursiy when you afraid while in the dark.
“Oh Earth, your Lord, and my Lord are Allah. I seek refuge in Allah from the evil (of your nights) and those evils created in you and that which moves in you and seek refuge in Allah from the lions, snakes, scorpions and from the evils of the dwellers of the city and from the father and children.”

6. Dua upon entering a city, town or village
“Alhamdulillah”, when entering a city town or village we should say this and recite this dua. When you entering the city, if you want to stay a while, you could take some rest and you can be continued again.“O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they envelop, Lord of the seven earths and all that they carry, Lord of the devils and all whom they misguide, Lord of the winds and all whom they whisk away. I ask You for the goodness of this village, the goodness of its inhabitants and for all the goodness found within it and I take refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants and from all the evil found within it.”
7. Dua for reaching the destination
Miles away from the journey, while you reaching the destination, you should recite this dua. This dua is expressed as thankful because we reaching our destination.“O Allah, You are the Lord of the seven skies and all the things that are under these skies and the seven planets and whatever is over these and of Satan who misled and all those misled by him and for the wind and all that it blows.”
8. Dua of the guest for their host
When you welcoming and receiving a guest in your home, and you let him spend the night. The next day when he will continue his journey as Muslim you should pray for him to reach his journey safely and may Allah bless him.
“O Allah bless them, that which You have provided them, forgive them and have mercy upon them.”
9. Dua when traveling on a ship, cars and others vehicle
The traveler who is traveling by ship, car, plane or motors should recite this dua for their safety while riding or in the vehicle. Allah will protect you and away you from any danger that will happen to you.If there’s a danger that happens while you in vehicle or riding, you should recite many of “Astaghfirullah”. Remembering Allah while we on a journey is the best that we must do as Muslim.
“In the name of Allah and all praise if for Allah. How perfect He is, the One Who has placed this (Transport) at our service and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our Lord if our final destiny. All praise is for Allah, All praise is for Allah, All praise is for Allah. Allah is the greatest. How perfect You are, O Allah, verily I have wronged my soul, so forgive me, for surely none can forgive sins except You.”
10. Dua when alighting off vehicle
Don’t be panic if your alighting vehicle is off, you must be calm and say Astaghfirullah to calm yourself. Then, you should recite this dua and you can call someone or people to help you to solve the problem. May Allah always give ease to you.“I seek refuge in Allah by His complete words from the evils of the creation.”By reciting this dua, no harm will befall the person.” (Muslim)
11. Dua in times of worry and grief
While you on in the journey, sometimes we feel of worry and grief, you may recite this dua to erase all of your worry and grief. May Allah wipes your worry and grief and replaces it with serenity.
“O, Allah, I seek refuge in you from grief and sadness, from weakness and from laziness, from miserliness and from cowardice, from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men (or others).”
12. Dua for when it thunders, wind blows, rains and after rains
When the weather is no longer bright, sometimes in our journey we meet rains, wind blows and even thunders. So, that if we meet thunders, the wind blows and even it rains we should pray while we still on the journey. You may recite this dua to make calm, and Allah will always be with us and look after us.
“Glory is to Him Whom thunder and angels glorify due to fear of Him.” (Al-Muwatta)
“In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O, Allah, I ask for Your favor, O Allah, protect me from Satan the outcast” (Abu Dawud)
“O, Allah (bring beneficially) rain clouds.” (Bukhari)
“It has rained by the bounty of Allah and His mercy.” (Bukhari)
13. Dua for safety while in journey
If you feel unsafe and still afraid or worried about something, you may recite this to make you calm. May Allah will take a look after you wherever you are. And you can reach the destination safely.
“The glories be to Allah ta’ala who has subjected us to this voice whereas we previously had no ability to do so. Truly only to our Lod, we will return. O, Allah verily we ask the goodness, taqwa, and charity that thou art happy in our journey. O. Allah! Let us make this journey, draw near to us a great distance. O, Allah, You are a companion on the way and substitute in the family. O, Allah indeed I take refuge in You from the journey of misfortune, the sad place of return and the bad view of wealth and family.”
14. Dua while taking on a journey and please to the safety of the family who abandoned
Are you a husband and you will take a long of journey cause of work? You must recite this for your family; your wife and children. May Allah protect your family while you undertaking a long journey.“I bet you all to Allah who will not waste what is saved to Him.”

15. Dua when stopping or lodging during journey
This dua is for the traveler or Musafir when he stopping somewhere on his journey. He may recite this dua:
“I take refuge in Allah’s perfect words from the evil that He has created.”
16. Dua the return of journey when entering one’s own city
There’s a habit of our Allah’s Messenger when he returning from the journey. Our Prophet SAW ‘s blessed habit was to a return from a journey during that time within the city. He would first to go mosque, and he performs two rak’ah of salat. Thereafter he would stay in the mosque for a little while then he goes home.“We are returning, repenting and obedient to Allah, praising him. ” (Bukhari, Muslim)
17. On the return from a journey (reach home safely)
While you on the returning from a journey and you reach home safely you must recite this “I have come back, I have come back, I seek forgiveness from Allah with such a repentance that leaves me with no sin.” (Hisnul Hasin from Abi Yala)
Take on a journey, it is expected that every Muslim who will depart or begin on a journey, whether it is far or not, should we do the Sunnah like the hadith before traveling as described earlier. If you are a Muslim who will do away and leave your wife and children, you should pray for them to be always in the protection of Allah ta’ala.
Besides, if you are a Muslim who takes a long journey, and there is something to be entrusted before you go, get it right away.When we leave the house and will travel we should pray, until when we are in a vehicle, such as on buses, trains, ships or planes we should also always pray that we are always guarded by Allah ta’ala.
