17 Better Ways How to Cure Hypocrisy in Islam

Hypocrisy is the worst kind of soul disease. Hasan Al Basri said,

 “No one fears it but a believer, and no one feels safe from it but a hypocrite.” 

in regards of Hellfire and fearing Allah SWT Himself. As the evil whisper of Shaytaan put an acts, one whose faith is not strong enough become a hypocrite in an instant. Here are the ways how to cure hypocrisy in Islam:

1. Acknowledge the Facts

It’s not easy for a Muslim to acknowledge that he is a hypocrite. It’s an important start if someone wants to really cure his hypocrisy. Hypocrisy is indeed a sin and there should be no denial or excuse.

2. Repent for Your Sins

All Muslims are sinners and they commit sins everyday, from the little sins to the biggest sins. In order to be forgiven by Allah SWT is to repent from your sins sincerely.

“Except those who repent and amend and hold fast to Allah and are sincere in their religion to Allah, these are with the believers, and Allah will grant the believers a mighty reward.” – An Nisa (4:146)

3. Ask for Forgiveness from Allah SWT

Asking for forgiveness from Allah SWT is important. As one has committed a severe sin and no one could forgive unless Allah SWT. Allah is the Merciful and He will forgive every of His servant who is sincerely repent and ask for forgiveness, aware of his wrongdoing.

4. Never Let Go of the Obligatory Salah

Salah is the strongest pillar in Islam, and that no Muslim should ever skipped the five times of Salah. It’s the best way to cure hypocrisy by getting closer and closer to Allah. Salah is the best shield a Muslim could have to defense himself from Shaytan.

5. Recite the Quran Daily

Holy Quran is the cure to all disease, including hypocrisy. Recite the Quran daily as it has the healing effects that will calm and soothe someone’s mind. Never miss a day without reciting the Quran. [AdSense-B]

6. Understand the Meaning of the Quran

Reading the Quran is not enough, you should understand the meaning too. If you happen to not speaking Arab, Quran has been translated to all languages in the world. You will find the purpose of human creation in the Quran and will no longer become a hypocrite.

7. Make Dua to Allah SWT

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has the best cure for hypocrisy by reciting this dua.

“Allahumma tahhir qalbee min an-nifaq wa lisaani min al-kadhib”. 

which means, “O Allah, cleanse my heart from hypocrisy, and my tongue from falsehood.”

8. Know Your Position in the World

Allah SWT is the owner of the Earth and all universe and everyone should know that they are nothing is this world. Don’t be too arrogance and not fearing Allah.

9. Committing Good Deeds

Commit as many good deeds as possible after repenting and asking for Allah’s forgiveness. As good deeds will help to erase the bad one.

Hypocrisy is an act of arrogance and it must be cured immediately.

Types of Hipocrisy

Hypocrisy is indeed the worst form of sins in Islam. Every hypocrite will be severely punished in the Hellfire. Hypocrisy itself contained of three types:

  • Hypocrisy Against Allah SWT Regarding the Actual Faith

These hypocrites don’t believe of the existence of Allah and the Hereafter. However he proudly show his identity as Muslim. The Holy Quran mention the hypocrites clearly,

“And when they meet those who believe, they say: We believe; and when they are alone with their Satans, they say: Surely we are with you, we were only mocking.” – Al Baqara (2:14)

  • Hypocrisy Against Allah Regarding the Necessity of Faith

The faith someone has for Allah regarding the Day of Judgement is very low and weak. He may know and believe Allah, the Day of Judgement, Hereafter, and the Hellfire, but he fear none of the. One should do their best to worship Allah and keeping the faith inside their heart.

  • Hypocrisy with Other People

A person could be a hypocrite to other person if he become two-faced and two-tongued. He doesn’t make clear on what side he’s on, befriend two enemies and give support to each of them.

Punishment for Hypocrisy

Called the worst and the most dangerous disease of the soul, hypocrisy or nafiq is an unforgivable sins unless that sinned person sincerely repent and return to the way of Islam. Said to be even more dangerous than kufr, here are the severe punishment for hypocrisy:

1. To be Put in the Deepest Hell

Allah SWT promised all hypocrite to be put in the lowest level of Hell.

“Verily, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depth (grade) of the Fire; no helper will you find for them.” – An Nisa (4:145)

2. Not to be Helped by Anyone

Surely the hypocrites strive to deceive Allah, and He shall requite their deceit to them, and when they stand up to prayer they stand up sluggishly; they do it only to be seen of men and do not remember Allah save a little. Wavering between that (and this), (belonging) neither to these nor to those; and whomsoever Allah causes to err, you shall not find a way for him. – An Nisa (4:141)

3. To Bring the Hypocrisy Until Death

Let not then their property and their children excite your admiration; Allah only wishes to chastise them with these in this world’s life and (that) their souls may depart while they are unbelievers. – At Tawba (9:55)

4. To be Exiled by Society

“They desire to deceive Allah and those who believe, and they deceive only themselves and they do not perceive.” – Al Baqara (2:9)

So those are the ways how to cure hypocrisy in Islam. Let’s all stay away from the disease that even Allah SWT hates the most.
