Dua means knowing that Allah is the one who determines all his efforts. Dua can be interpreted as a request and praise in the form of utterance from the lowly servant of the Lord of the Supreme Being. People who do not want to dua to Allah can be said to be a man who arrogant (arrogant). The verse of the Qur’an has implied that dua is worship. This is what is called the value of existence of a dua. Therefore, Allah commands humans to dua to Him and mention those who are not worshiping (praying) are those who boast before Allah.
And said your Lord, “Call upon Me; I will respond to you. Indeed, those who (are) proud to worship Me will enter Hell (in) humiliation.” (Ghafir 40:60)
Here is presented the importance of dua in Islam.
1. Dua is Worship
Praying to Allah is a show of submission and need of Allah because it is not recommended for worship except to turn in and submit to the Creator and feel the need to Allah.
“Dua is the brain of worship.” (HR four Imams and Imam Turmudzi)

2. Makes the Heart Calm
This is one of the benefits of doing dua to Allah. Allah says that dua will be able to give serenity and make our heart calm. By getting these, we will live in this world without any problems and face difficulties with strong heart.
“Those who believed and find satisfaction their hearts in the remembrance (of) Allah. No doubt, in the remembrance of Allah find satisfaction the hearts.” (Ar-Ra’d 13:28)
3. Removes Sin and Saves It From Adzab Allah
In essence, doing the dua gets great goodness and something to take away sin and eliminate it. Of course, this can save the prayer from the adzab of Allah.
The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam said which means: “It is not a man practice a deed will save himself from the adzab of Allah more than dhikrullah”. (HR Ahmad)
Say, “Not will care for you my Lord, if not your prayer (is to Him). But verily, you have denied, so soon will be the inevitable (punishment).” (Al-Furqan 25:77)

4. Improve self
Allah will not grant the dua from someone who is not trying to look himself or change himself. What is the essence of dua if the prayer does not change and always repeats his wrongdoings? By doing dua, we also need to improve self so our dua will be granted by Allah.
Ibn Atha’illah in his book Al-Hikam explains, “How do you want something extraordinary when you yourself do not change yourself from your habits? We ask and hope much for God, but busy asking sometimes makes us not judge ourselves. If we ask (prayer) while trying to change ourselves, Allah will give us what we ask because prayer is essentially a companion so we can change ourselves. “

5. Become closer to Allah
“And when ask you My servants about Me, then indeed I am near. I respond (to the) invocation (of) the supplicant when he calls Me. So let them respond to Me and let them believe in Me, so that they may (be) led aright.” (Al-Baqarah 2:186)
Allah already told in this verse that He is near to his servants. However, He is only near and responds to the servants who always do dua and remember Him. It is to show that we believe in Him and want to become closer to Him.

If we want to wish something, we need to dua to Allah every day. By doing this, Allah will grant our dua.
“The Muslim who prays to Allah as long as it is not sinful and decides the relationship (between relatives, pen), then Allah will give him three things: [1] Allah will soon grant his dua, [2] Allah will keep it for him in hereafter, and [3] Allah will prevent him from such ugliness. “The Companions then said,” Then we will multiply the prayer. “The Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam then said,” Allah will grant your dua more. ” (HR Ahmad 3/18)
7. Humans need a support
Human desperately needs a support that can give strength to him when he is weak when all the forces outside him can no longer support him. At this time there is no way for the human to be able to reassure himself, calm his heart and clear his mind than just complaining about his destiny and circumstances to Allah and determining his way of life, the way to get closer to Allah is through the medium of dua. So, dua serves as a means of human complaints that are in danger of crisis, distress, and suffering.

We need to dua to Allah for every life problem with the dua that our Prophet has taught us. We realize that we are just human beings, who are in dire need of Allah Ta’ala and also need to follow His command. Indeed people who do not want to dua to Allah, feel no need of Allah and not sure with His word will not get anything that they want.
Rasulullah shallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “Whoever does not ask Allah, he will be wrath.” (Atma Tarmidji and Ibn Majah, Hadith Hasan).
