is a good month in Islam. It is as stated in the following proposition.
“Indeed, the number of the moon on the side of Alloh is twelve months, in the decree of Alloh when He created the heavens and the earth, among them the four unclean months. That (provision) the right religion, so do yourselves in months four then, and fight the Pagans all as they too fight you all, and know that Allah is with those who fear Him “(QS. At-Tawbah: 36)
Rasulullah SAW said: “Indeed, the age revolved as it was in its shape when Alloh4iu created the heavens and the earth. That year there were twelve months of which four months are respected: 3 months in a row; DzulQo’dah, Zulhijah, Muharam and Rajab Mudhar, which are found between the Jumada Akhirah and Syaban. “(Narrated by Bukhari and Muslim).
Therefore, start the month of Muharram is the practice of prayer and fasting beginning of Muharram Sunnah are recommended. One of the sunnah fasting Fasting is Tasu’a held on 9th Muharram Hijri Year.
Tasu’a fasting is one of the kinds of sunnah fasting that has its own virtues. As stated in the following argument.
Narrated by Ibn Abbas RA, he said, “When the Rasulullah Muhammad fasted on the day of ‘Ashura and ordered the Companions to fast on that day, they commented,’ O Rasulullah, truly the day ‘Ashura is a day that is glorified by Jews and Christians.’ Rasulullah SAW also replied, ‘Then, next year, God willing, we will fast on the ninth day’. And the year is yet to come, but the Prophet SAW has died” (HR. Muslim no. 1916).
In another meaning, Tasu’a Fasting is carried out to exclude the ancient book experts who only fasted on the 10th of Muharram. Fasting on the 10th of Muharram is called ‘Ashura Fasting Ashura day and a practice which is highly recommended. If you cannot do Tasu’a Fasting and only do Fast ‘Ashura, that’s okay.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah responded to this problem by saying, “Fasting day‘ Ashura became the expiation (eraser) of sins for one year and was not forced to fast on that day alone ” (Al-Fatawa Al-Kubra Juz IV; Ikhtiyarat, hlm. 10).

Tasu’a Fasting Intention
Just as Ramadan fasting is mandatory sunnah fasting also begins with the intention at night before the sunnah fasting day. The intention of Fasting Tasu’a is,
نَوَيْتُ صَوْمَ غَدٍ عَنْ أَدَاءِ سُنَّةِ التَا سُوعَاء لِلهِ تَعَالَى
Nawaitu shauma ghadin ‘an adâ’i sunnatit Tasû‘â lillâhi ta‘âlâ
Meaning: I intend to fast the Tasu`a sunnah tomorrow because of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala.
That’s a description of the virtues of Fasting Tasu’a that you can know. Hopefully this review can make all the readers eager to work on various kinds of pious charity. Including running the Tasu’a Fasting. Aamiin.
