13 Virtues of Ayatul Kursy in Islam for Every Muslim

Among thousands of verses and numbers of Surah in the Holy Quran, some of them are special and holds their own virtues. One of those special surah is the Ayatul Kursy. It was the 255^th verse of the second surah in the Holy Quran, Al Baqara. The particular verse is said to have many benefits and brings a lot of virtue to whoever recites them.

The verse goes:

اللّٰهُ لَاۤ اِلٰهَ اِلَّا هُوَ الۡحَـىُّ الۡقَيُّوۡمُۚ  لَا تَاۡخُذُهٗ سِنَةٌ وَّلَا نَوۡمٌ​ؕ لَهٗ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَا فِى الۡاَرۡضِ​ؕ مَنۡ ذَا الَّذِىۡ يَشۡفَعُ عِنۡدَهٗۤ اِلَّا بِاِذۡنِهٖ​ؕ يَعۡلَمُ مَا بَيۡنَ اَيۡدِيۡهِمۡ وَمَا خَلۡفَهُمۡ​ۚ وَلَا يُحِيۡطُوۡنَ بِشَىۡءٍ مِّنۡ عِلۡمِهٖۤ اِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرۡسِيُّهُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضَ​​ۚ وَلَا يَـُٔوۡدُهٗ حِفۡظُهُمَا ​ۚ وَ هُوَ الۡعَلِىُّ الۡعَظِيۡمُ

“Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”

There are certain reasons why Ayatul Kursy become special, and here are the virtues of Ayatul Kursy in Islam:

1. Getting Rid of All Difficulties

The first virtue of this verse was it’s able to get rid of all difficulties and his wealth will not be inflicted. In addition, the Shaytaan won’t go anywhere near and he will not forget the Quran. As said by the Prophet (peace be upon him):

“Whoever recites the first 4 ayat of Surah Baqarah, then Ayatul Kursi and then the last 3 ayats of Surah Baqarah will not be inflicted with any kind of difficulty in his wealth or himself, Shaytaan will not come near him and he will not forget the Quran.”

2. It Contains Many Blessings

The second virtues of Ayatul Kursy in Islam in the blessing contained in it. Each words of the verse contains its own blessing. This is verified in a hadith:

Imam Ali (AS) was told by the Holy Prophe (peace be upon him): “Qur’an is a great word, and Surah Baqarah is the leader of the Quran and Ayatul Kursy is the leader of Surah Baqarah. In Ayatul Kursy there are 50 words and for each word there are 50 blessings and good in it.”

3. Good for the Brain

If someone wish to improve his intelligence, especially for student, reciting Ayatul Kursy regularly will be good for their brain.

Our Prophet (peace be upon him) has said: “These things increase ones memory; sweets, meat of an animal near the neck, Adas (Lentils), cold bread and recitation of Ayatul Kursi.”

4. Giving the Death a Light in the Grave

Not only Ayatul Kursy has many virtues for the living and bring benefits to those recite it, it also beneficial for the death. When a living human recite Ayatul Kursy on the death behalf, sending it as their Hadiya, then the verse could give them light in the grave. Sending Ayatul Kursy to deceased parents, families, and friends is really good.

5. Having the Protection from the Angels

If a Muslim is about to leave his home, recite Ayatul Kursy. Allah SWT will send a group of Angels to come down and protect him. Recite it twice then Allah will send two groups of Angels. And if one recites three times, Allah the Almighty will take care of him himself, and telling the Angels not to worry.

6. Protection During the Sleep

It’s sunnah to read Ayatul Kursy before sleeping, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“If one recites Ayatul Kursi before going to sleep, Allah will send an Angel to come and look after you and protect you till the morning. His home, family and also neighbours will remain in safety until morning.”

7. Disappearing the Fear

Fear is a feeling someone unable to avoid when someone is alone, for example are the times alone at home. Whoever feeling the fear, seek help from Allah SWT by reciting Ayatul Kursy makes the fear disappears right away and the state of mind becomes calm.

8. Removing Poverty

Another virtues of Ayatul Kursy in Islam if recited when someone is leaving their home is the removal from the poverty. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“When leaving home,if one recites Ayatul Kursi the Allah will send 70,000 Angels to do Istighfaar for him until he returns home, and upon his return Poverty will be removed from him.”

9. Multiple of Rewards

Recitation of Ayatul Kursy can be done after taking wudoo, as said by the 5th Imam Ali (AS):

“Allah will give him a reward of 40 years of Ibadaat, his position will be raised in the Heavens 40 times (levels) and will marry him to 40 Horains.”

10. To be Read After Salat

This one virtue of the Ayatul Kursy brings the most benefits to human. If a Muslim recite Ayatul Kursy after Salat regularly, then death is the only one between him and the heaven.

Allah (SWT) told Prophet Musa (AS): If one recites it after every salaat, the Almighty will make his heart a thankful one (Shakireen), will give him areward of the prophets, and his deeds will be like those of the truthful (Siddiqeen) and nothing except death will stop will stop him from going into heaven.”
