Prayer is one of the pillars in Islam, there is so much virtues of prayer for Muslims. Tranquility in prayer is called with kushoo, how we perform prayer in submission, in full faith, feeling of intense and respect. Kushoo is beyond fear, we did not perform prayer only just fear of the wrath of Allah but more than that we love Him, we believe in Him, and obey Him. While in Quran there is a verse said about the important of tranquility,
“Certainly will the believers have succeeded. They who are during their prayer humbly submissive.”
QS. Al-Mu’minun : 1-2
The verse clearly states about two words which are “humble” and “submissive”. The world humble means that while performing prayer we should understand our true position as human being. As the creation of Allah SWT that we must lowering down ourselves in front of Him. While the word submissive means that we have to be obedient of what Allah SWT have ordered us to do. We should obey His rules and guidance and avoid all His prohibition included effects of sleep after dawn in Islam which are prohibited for Muslims.
In prayer, we should reach kushoo or the state where our body and mind are in tranquility. Since kushoo is the consequences of being faithful, humble, and submissive towards Allah SWT. Here we would like to discuss about the ways on how to gain tranquility in your prayer. What Muslims should do to gain that state.
1. Learn about Quran and it’s verses
Qur’an is the holy book for Islam and muslims, all knowledge and guidance from Allah written in there. Learning Quran also helps us to be more submissive in prayer, as mentioned in the following verse:
“Had We sent down this Qur’an to a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allah. Such are the parables which We put forward to mankind that they may reflect.”

2. Increase our knowledge about Islam
Our knowledge will give us overview about Islam, our relation to other human, to Allah, and to other creatures. Kushoo or tranquility gained by a person who has ackquired enough knowledge.
“And among people and moving creatures and grazing livestock are various colors similarly. Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge. Indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Forgiving.”

It means that tranquility have a relation with knowledge, it is the consequences of being understand about Islam and its teaching.
3. Remember about the Judgement Day
When we remember that our life know is only a stepping stone to achieve Jannah or Hereafter we will more aware of what we’ve done. If we remember about this matter, hopefully we will gain tranquility when performing prayer.
4. Strengthen our heart
Another ways on how to gain tranquility in prayer is by strengthen our heart. Heart is the basic from any kind of actions we did, including prayer. If we have a strong intention, gaining tranquility is only automatic. Heart play a great role for our body, as the Prophet said in the following hadith,
““There is an organ in the body, if it is good, the whole body will be good, and if it is bad the whole body will become bad, verily it is the heart.”
5. Find a quite place
Noisy sounds sometimes distracting for beng kushoo while praying. Therefore avoid any noisy place and rather than that create a cozy and quite place to perform prayer. Praying in mosque will be a great choice for this, since there is so much advantages of studying in mosques as well as prayer in mosque.
6. Attractive & colorful decorations
When performing prayer prepare the room as decent as possible. Avoid any attractive and colorful decorations to gain tranquility. It is often distracting muslims especially their eyes from being submissive.
7. Eat before praying
Well, it sounds unimportant right? But physical needs like hunger and thirst will distract our attention while praying. Fulfil this first then perform your prayer, you might find easier to gain tranquility. You might want to know about can we perform prayers when food is already served?

8. Avoid sins
Sins believed to be a barrier of developing ways on how to get tranquility in your prayer. Tranquility will be achieved by person who can develop sincere connection with Allah SWT. Sins could loose our tranquility if we avoid it, then we could make it as a factor to seek forgiveness and guidance from Allah with earnestness. As mentioned in the following verse,
“And the ones who disbelieve in the signs of Allah and the meeting with Him – those have despaired of My mercy, and they will have a painful punishment.”

9. Avoid Riya
Riya or say it as a tendency to show off is a merely the work of satan. Avoid riya if you want to gain tranquility in prayer. Why riya could distract our prayer? Now the question is, why muslims should perform prayer? what is the true essence of muslims performing prayer and dua every day?
The answer is solely and only for Allah SWT. It is our true form of obedience towards our Creator. Do not let wordly matter distract you like riya. If you perform prayer only to gain attention from other person, you will never gain tranquility in your prayer. You might want to read about kufr in Islam.
10. Perform regular fasting
Fasting in Islam is very important, it gives muslims many benefits both physically or mentally. Not only increasing our health but fasting also ways on how to gain tranquility in your prayer.
