17 Concept of Love in Islam: 3 Majors Divisions

Love is general concept all over the world. It’s one of the most important thing to keep the world going until today. When there’s no love, there is no life. We basically do everything out of love. Name it worshiping Allah, sending blessing to the Prophet, make supplication for our parents and even marriage all is done out of love.

Then what is the concept of love in Islam? It can be divided into three major things: love to Allah, love to the Prophet, and love to Allah’s creations.

Love to Allah SWT

“…for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction.” –  (13:28)

  • Make Dua to Allah SWT

We can love Allah by showing how we need Him and His guidance for living.

”And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me – indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.”(2:186)

  • Stay Away from What He Dislikes

Never disappoint Allah SWT by staying away from anything He considered as poisononous.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“A good friend and a bad friend are like a perfume-seller and a blacksmith: The perfume-seller might give you some perfume as a gift, or you might buy some from him, or at least you might smell its fragrance. As for the blacksmith, he might singe your clothes, and at the very least you will breathe in the fumes of the furnace.” – Bukhari

  • Know Allah SWT More

As we know, Allah has 99 beautiful names. Let’s know Allah better through those names. From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (pace be upon him) said,

“If Allah loves a person, He calls Gabriel saying, ‘Allah loves so and-so; O Gabriel! Love him.’ Gabriel would love him and make an announcement amongst the inhabitants of the Heaven. ‘Allah loves so-and-so, therefore you should love him also,’ and so all the inhabitants of the Heaven would love him, and then he is granted the pleasure of the people on the earth.” – Bukhari

How could we love Allah better than remembering Him all the time through Dhikr? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said,

“Whenever some people gather in one of Allah’s houses (mosques) to recite the book of Allah and study it among themselves – then calmness (tranquility) descends upon them, the angels surround them, mercy covers them, and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him.” – Muslim
