50 Akhlaq of Prophet Muhammad SAW – Morals – Manners

Akhlaq is a matter of ihwan attached to the soul. From there, the behaviors appear easily without a long look and become spontaneous. If that thing or behavior causes good and commendable actions according to mind and shari’ah, then that behavior is called good akhlaq. When it comes to bad deeds, the behavior is called bad ahklaq. Prophet Muhammad has very good morals and manners and needs to be followed by all Muslims in this world. If we follow the akhlaq of the Prophet, then our lives will feel more beautiful and we will go to the heaven easily.

“There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.” (Surah Al-ahzab 33:21)

Morals

Morals are principles and what to believe regarding right and wrong. Here are some morals that we can follow from Prophet Muhammad.

1. Sense of crisis

This is a sensitivity to the difficulties of the people as demonstrated by the ability to empathize and sympathize with the disadvantaged. Prophet Muhammad SAW is a man who has a side of empathy and cares very high. This empathetic and caring side includes anyone around him, his close friends, his friends, his family, his sons, even against the enemies. Prophet Muhammad also applies it to any animals.

2. Sense of achievement

This is a passionate spirit for the people and the nation to make progress. The leader’s duties, among other things, have raised hopes and made political roadmaps towards those ideals and hopes. The Prophet Muhammad was the bearer of peace, welfare, and messenger as well as for the progress of society. Islam is a religion that strongly recommends that life is full of peace, therefore Islam gives clear provision if there is a conflict between individual, society or the world as a whole. In the face of opposition, Islam provides an appropriate and memorable alternative, is by way of peace.

3. Spread Glorious Grace

Prophet Muhammad SAW as rahmatan lil ‘alamin means he was sent by Allah SWT to spread His mercy by improving morals. At that time the society broke morally to the norms of decency even far away from the teachings of God. Everything eradicated and repaired, then replaced with akhlakul karimah in accordance with the revelation of Allah SWT. Thus, people become peaceful, peaceful, happy, prosperous, and get the pleasure of Allah SWT.

“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.” (Surah Al-Anbya 21:107)

4. Great Character

The Prophet Muhammad in his preaching beside introducing Allah SWT as the only God who must be worshiped, He also guided his people to behave honorably and exemplify them. With patience and determination, He was able to change the corrupted morals into noble human beings. The efforts made in building their morals really become manifest as a moral and civilized society. The Prophet’s morals are great and above all the morals of any human being.

“And indeed, Prophet Muhammad is a great moral character.” (Surah al-Qalam 68:4)

5. Modest (Tawadhu)

Rasulullah SAW never agreed to anyone to bow to him. He even forbade his companions to do so. His own companions with such a high love for the Prophet, never stood up when he saw Rasulullah SAW came because they knew he did not like it. Prophet Muhammad SAW always sat with the companions without distinction that distinguishes them. It was like he was a part of them. Prophet Muhammad never sat in a higher position or in a place that distinguishes him from people around him.

There are strangers who do not know him and get into a society that the Prophet Muhammad SAW in it and ask, “Who among you is Muhammad?” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari, No. 63)

6. Loving People

Allah SWT is the Most Beneficent, the Merciful. Prophet Muhammad is also a loving and caring person. Believers are obliged to continue loving the love of God and the Apostle by loving other people. Love (rahmah) is the basis of goodness. Without love, it is hard to imagine a person can do good deeds.

“The one who loves will be loved by the Most Merciful. Love the people on earth so you will be loved by those in the sky. “(Narrated by At-Tirmidhi, no 1924, and Abu Dawud, No. 4941).

7. Respect People

There is a beautiful story when a friend is late to come to the Assembly of the Prophet. The place is packed. He asked permission to get a place, but no other friend would give him a place. In the midst of his confusion, Prophet Muhammad called him. He asked him to sit near him. Not quite up there, the Prophet Muhammad also folded his turban and given to the friend to be used as a seat. The friend with tears in his eyes received the turban but did not make it sit but kissed the turban of the Prophet.

8. Listen to Other Opinions

Prophet Muhammad saw once visited the envoy of Quraish, Utbah bin Rabi’ah. He said to the Prophet, “O my nephew, you come to bring a new religion, what you really want. If you want treasure, we will accumulate our wealth, If you want glory we will honor you. If there is any illness you are talking about, we will take the medicine. If you want power, let us make you our ruler ”

The Prophet listened patiently to this idolatrous figure. He did not even argue or cut off his talk. When Utbah stopped, the Prophet asked, “Is it okay, Yes Abal Walid?”

“Already,” said Utbah.

The Prophet responded to Utbah’s speech by reading Fushilat’s letter. When he arrived at the verse sajdah, the Prophet prostrated. Meanwhile, Utbah sits listening to the Prophet until completing his reading.

9. Care to the Poor

There is a Muslim woman who regularly cleanses the Prophet’s mosque in Medina. When Rasulullah did not see her again a few days and he asked it to his brother. He told him that the woman had died.

“Why did not I be told if she died? I’m sure to participate in her worship. Perhaps you did not consider it important enough because she was poor. The assumption was wrong. Bring me to her grave. “Then he went there and prayed for her (Al-Bukhori, Basilicus-Salat)

10. Honest and Trustworthy

One of the morals of the Prophet Muhammad is Ash Shiddiq or honest. He is a person who never lied. Since childhood, he has been honest, even when he is still a trader. He always mentions honestly the capital he uses for his merchandise and it is up to the buyer to give more or less the goods he buys. So Prophet Muhammad Saw was known in the “business world” of that time as a true trader or businessman. In today’s times, it may not be so much if there are such honest traders.

Manners

Manners are the way we behave socially like custom, habit, and seen by the actions that we do. Here is presented the manners of Prophet Muhammad we need to follow.

1. Always Keep Promise

Prophet Muhammad is a person who always keeps his promise. Until sometime, he found a believer who had promised and tried to reject him for the common good. However, the Prophet did not like it. When he entered the Medina, he made a treaty with the Jews as he also made an agreement with the tribes living around the city of Medina, but they all betrayed the agreements that had been agreed upon between the Rasulullah SAW (as a representative of the Muslims) with the Jews. God punished the Jews by giving the winner to the Muslims when both do war.

2. Greet Anyone

Prophet Muhammad always humble and greet anyone that he meets. He still greets to the little ones and lower positions below him.

“Truly Prophet Muhammad saw visited Anshor people. Then he greeted their little boy and rubbed their heads.” (Sahih HR. Ibnu Hibban No. 459)

3. Never Leave Salat

Prophet Muhammad never leave salat even though he is busy or has many works. He always gives the first priority for salat.

“Aisyah was asked about what the Prophet Muhammad saw when he was at home. Aisyah replied, “He always helps the work of his family, and if the time of salat comes he goes out to perform the salat.” (Narrated by Sahih al-Bukhari No. 676)

4. Always Smile to Other People

Smiling is the nature of Rasulullah salallahu alaihi wasallam which we think is easy to do it. However, when we think again it is not as easy as we know his struggle at that time. However, despite any circumstances at that time, he could always show his radiant smile.

5. Never Ask Someone to Help while still able to do it

This is one of Prophet Muhammad’s most powerful principles. When He still feels capable of doing something by itself, He will never ask for help to others. He thinks it may bother other people.

6. Not Hold Grudge to People

This is what we often forget about when we are being treated badly by others. Yet he teaches us to be patient. In Prophet Muhammad’s story, every day He was fed up with an old woman who never ceased to insult him. Because of his patience and kindness, Allah SWT then opened the heart of the old woman to enter Islam.

“And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better, and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.” (Surah Fussilat 41:34)

7. Always Give Solutions

When he was asked by his friend or his people, he would have tried to answer him, even though He did not know. He would try to find him even though he should ask another person.

8. Eat with Right Amount

Allah Almighty forbade his people to do something excessively. Because it can lead to something that is not good, including in eating. Eat with right amount always done Prophet Muhammad SAW. The concept is also supported by various studies.

9. Prioritize common interests above personal interests

Prophet Muhammad is not a selfish person who only thinks about himself. When Prophet Muhammad wanted to breakfast with a piece of bread, while some people came to ask for the bread because it was very hungry, and he gave the bread to the person.

10. Always Visit the Sick People

Prophet Muhammad often visits the sick and attends his care. To cheer the heart of the sick, he visits him even though the sick is a kafir or a hypocrite.

“When Muslim visiting other Muslims in the morning then 70,000 angels will pray (for forgiveness) for him until the evening. If you look out in the afternoon then 70,000 angels will be happy for him until the morning. He also deserves to have the fruits quoted in heaven.” (Narrated by al-Tirmidhi from the companions of Ali ibn Abi Thalib radi ‘anhu)

  • He never steps over others.
  • When walking, he did not drag his footsteps.
  • He never glares at someone’s face.
  • He always uses his hands when he implies something and never does it with his eyes or eyebrows.
  • Always facing the person who is talking to him.
  • When entering a meeting, he always sat in the last place and near the door, not at the front.
  • Never lean against the wall when in public.
  • Never criticize someone who has a speech error.
  • Never interrupt someone else’s conversation unless the person speaks in vain.
  • Get along with the poor and eat with them.
  • Conducting hospitality more than others.
  • Never look down to other people.
  • Always ask about the news and the circumstances of his companions.
  • When wearing clothes and sandals, he started from the right.
  • Wash hands after eating and then rub them into the face.
